Ah, interesting. I am a commoner American. I like this. 🤔😊🇲🇫🇺🇲🌎
Ahah a commoner, I often describe myself as a commoner so welcome to the club 😂
@fabexpats Love it.😊
Happy New Year! Thank you. Same to you. Merci' Coming to France in April to explore and house hunt.😊👋🇲🇫🇺🇲☮️🌎
Thank You 🙏 Looking forward to seeing you around in 2025 😉 Happy house hunting 👍💪
@fabexpats Thanks so much.😊🖐🇨🇵🇺🇲
It will be hilarious to see what she does when Le Pen wins the Presidency.
I’m sure people who love France will always be welcome 🙏 As to future politics, tomorrow is another day 😉
Excellent you guys. Couldn't make it live but great to watch Really useful .
Thanks David, see you soon in France then? 😉👍
Nice to see you here rather than on TikTok, Sean. Great to hear your story in long form. 🏈Go Birds 🦅

I am a US citizen living in France while my daughter attends high school. We have Visas. My Visa restricts me from working so all my income comes from the USA. Am I required to file a French tax return? I do own an apartment here. Nancy
Hi Nancy, yes you need to file a tax return even if you end up being tax exempt as long as you’re a French permanent resident (which usually translates into you being in France 183 days per year or more) 😉👍
@ thank you for that info. Who do I go to for this and when?
@@annikadellamonte7039 impots.gouv.fr or use a tax lawyer, the tax season being in May each year 😉
I’m us citizen and booked ticket to Italy in January 2025. It’s getting close. I am getting nervous about this thing because I don’t want them to stop me at airport and wasting all my money. Do you know if I need that?
Hi Angie, don’t worry it was scheduled to start in January 2025 with a grace period of 6-month but isn’t even active so you’re completely safe 😉👌 Enjoy your trip and safe travels 🙏
Thank you. You have provided some of the best resources to be found anywhere.
Thank you Eric, that is the best comment I could have hoped for. I’ll keep on publishing content for “wannabe expats” and be a part of one’s journey to France is really the best feeling there is (at least to me). Hope you’re doing good? 🙏
No matter what I disable on my computer or ipad using different search engines, the link identifies me as spam. So frustrating. Also note that there have not been many applicants. Probably for the same reason. Can some one please check the link? I have already had my consult with Adrian Leeds and I am moving to Nice in 2025. Thanks, Diana
Hi Diana, sorry for the late reply, can you send us an email it's hello at fabexpat dot com and I'll send you the instructions to manually add you in the contest 😉👍
I have found the French people to be extraordinarily kind and helpful throughout my adventure traveling through the Hérault and Aude. They are great ambassadors for reasons to live in France.
Comparing prices between Maui and France and say how much cheaper things are in France to the ‘US’ is a mental gymnastics. Maui is much more expensive even to most parts of Southern California. How much for a gallon of gas in France vs SoCal or Texas? You pay 2-3x more in France. If you work as a teacher, engineer, professor, nurse, doctor, IT or most professionals, expect to be paid 2-3x less in France while paying higher progressive taxes. Where France is better is the social safety net, especially for the lower-middle and lower classes. But that doesn’t necessarily translate to better opportunities. Look at the Latino and Asian American demographics in the US. The 63 million Latinos have the same GDP as France. The Asians (11 million) are top earners in the US. Most of these people are immigrants within the last 50 years. France and most of southern Europe are great for retired expats, who have built up their retirement funds.
Definitely although some also consider France thanks to the culture, lifestyle, food, etc. No matter the reason everyone is welcome as long as you're being friendly you'll be meet in kind 😉
There appears to be a demon in a nurse's uniform about to pass out meds.
😂
Chapeau ! To the French !
The French live longer than Americans do because they aren't self-inflicting diseases at nearly the same rate. And she's right, if you get the sniffles in France, you go see a doctor and they give you some aspirin and you don't get a bill. When people get really sick; when they have cancer or Parkinson's or ALS, and they can afford it, they come to America. Not France.
France is the land is equality of chances, everyone can be treated the same. For example France ranks 5th on cancer survival rates across the board, US ranked 2nd in 2024 but the rates are quite close like breast cancer is 88.6% in the US vs 86.9% in France although treatment is 100% refunded in France and ranges from $80k to $130k in the US depending on the stage so we can always argue on "who's the best" and the answer can only personal. Personnally I like that we don't let "the average Joe" alone in the dark when times get rough 😉
Would have loved to work with you until you decided to get political and alienate at least 50% of the population. Stupid business decision.
I don't think I've alienated anyone, from where I stand everyone is welcome 😉
❤
Good to know. Sounds like this would allow someone to have a RUclips Channel generating income. Say for instance, US person in France on VLS-TS
What are the requirements for the french citizen ship if im doing the french engineering degree? Do i still have to work for 2 years after graduating if i’m working rn as an apprentice? Thank you.
I disagree with Adrian’s view of Bordeaux’s connectivity. I’ve studied the air connections from it and it hits the places we’d want to get to in Europe. Of course to go to US you need to go through Paris no matter where you are in France. I also disagree with the premise that an American should be necessarily aiming for a place full of American expats. How does that help assimilation into French society and culture? Sure, I’d like some international expat friends, but definitely not exclusively American. Finally, while I love Paris, I would never want to live there. I’d prefer Bordeaux: beautiful and human-scaled, less crowds, less expensive, better weather, not far from coast, closer to nature in general than Paris is, very walkable and bikeable and with good public transport-including a 2-hour TGV train to Paris so that you could theoretically do day trips there. And I appreciate that the current mayor (Pierre Hurmic) is from The Greens party. The city’s been headed in a good direction the past 20 years. The one downside to me is that since the TGV opened in 2017 there have been too many Parisians selling there small overpriced flats in Paris to move to something bigger and less expensive in Bordeaux and commuting from there! That has elevated real estate in Bordeaux.
I don’t particularly want to live in Nice or Paris just to be close to American expats either. It’s nice to have a built in social life but I like to be able to live in a less touristic area, to escape from the constant hustle and bustle on a daily basis. That said, I might buy a second home in France, or consider renting, in Bordeaux or Lyon, or Nantes… or Toulouse. But I’m fine with being far from the madding crowd for periods too.
I agree. Personnally I think one's dreams and "vision of France" has to be personnal, whatever "they" want to move to Paris, Nice, Bordeaux... or la creuse 😂 The bottom-line for me is that everyone is welcome 🙏
Bordeaux, Lyon or Nantes, all cool places. A small preference for Bordeaux or Lyon (for different reasons) although my ancestors will hate me as I was born in Nantes 😂
Bordeaux sounds wonderful. I think I have added it to my list now. I'm more of a country gal so I was looking at Normandy and Brittany. Coming in the spring for 3 months to explore all the areas on my list. Thank you for sharing this. I don't speak French, I'm learning and just started now, so that was my biggest concern, being able to navigate things on my own. But you're right, you throw someone in it and it sure pushes you to learn fast. What about living in France part-time ? Can I use the long stay visa to live part-time in France? Say 6-9 months?
@@222dyanYes, you can split time with the long stay visa. While I would happily stay in France full-time, my wife is insisting on keeping a foot (and property) in the US, so probably three summer months in US and rest of the year in France.
Bonjour, Fabien. Thank you. I missed the webinar bc we sold our condo and must move quickly while we await our VLS-TS interview. Thank you for your excellent videos!!!! Merci. Dean et Cindy
Congrats. Hope your visa interview process was as smooth and easy as mine minus the paper, right!
Hi Dean, hope you're doing good, feel free to send me updates over email, always a pleasure to know where you are at in the relocation process 😉
@@fabexpats Bonjour, Fabien. We canceled our VLS-TS interview bc there wasn't enough time bc the condo didn't sell until Dec 4th, 2 days after our appointment. However, we still flew to Europe. First Lisbon; not for us. Then Marseille, but it's too busy but very friendly. Next was Toulon, nice and generous but a bit touristy with the cruise ships. Perpignan is next (Jan 1-31). We are exploring the coastal cities from Toulon to Perpignan. Montpellier is our next visit and looks promising; flat not hilly like Lyon (which we thought about for a minute). We will return to the States in March and reapply, hoping to return to France in September. Thank you for your inquiry. Empirical research is really helping. Merci. Dean et Cindy *we met wonderful French people in Lisbon, on the train to Toulon, and in Toulon: generous, welcoming, and friendly!
Terrific webinar! Hoping to relocate to the Bordeaux region from Colorado (USA) in about 2-3 years. Sooner, if we can put the pieces in place to make that happen as quickly as possible. You are both very much appreciated for sharing this excellent information. Bonne journee!
Don't hesitate to reach out, more than happy to help / advise 😉

Feel free to reach out, links in bio 😉
I was live yesterday, this was great. TY!
Sorry for the late respond, just saw your comment now, thanks again and don't hesitate to reach out, always a pleasure to help 🙏
Great web narrative. Thank you both
🙏
I'm glad to hear that the French government is trying to make it easier for English speakers to move to France.
And it definitely is the case, plus the French are (usually 😂) super English-speaking expat friendly if you don't mind a bit of broken English 😂😉
Is there a link to the full interview ?
Yes there is, sorry for the slow reponse => ruclips.net/video/2K2JE1pkoHU/видео.html
Great information, thank you!
🙏
For a long stay visa a adult and a menor child what’s the income requirement this confuses me lot? Tia
minor child is 50% of adult.
As previously said I can confirm it's France minimum wage + 50% although it gets lower if more than one adult and/or child but for just an adult and a minor it's basically 1.5 times France minimum wage.
I've used Fab French for insurance and they're the best. Truly. This webinar is further proof that this is a wonderful group of smart and generous people. Thank you!
Very useful info - thanks
very informatives, lots of food for thought. Merci beaucoup!
Merci 🙏
goood to know thanks
You're welcome 🙏
Can you help for me to get my family document that is in france
Many hours on the subject of inheritance? Yes please.
😂😂
Lots of good advice, thank you all. My question is for a monthly pension/US social security as income that will probably need to continue to be deposited to an American bank, what will the transfer rate be like in France?
For US pensions it's different and actually quite nice as it's completely tax-free in France.
Great stuff. Thanks FAB!
I wonder what are the first and most important documents that need translating?
Translations are only required for non-English written documents and/or for specific visas like all the business types of visa.
I am tracking down the different forms/documents needed to prove residency. I cannot hear exactly what Fabien is saying and it is not in the transcript. Attestation de B------- Could you please spell it out? All I can find online is the attestation d'accueil.
Sorry for the late answer, just in case you're still looking it's the attestation d'hébergement
Also not able to see the live broadcast so appreciate being able to see this on You Tube - thanks presenters !!
Thanks Lauren 🙏
Thanks Tommy for the mention.... we do our best!

If you're granted a long stay one year visa, can you leave France and visit other countries (even return to your home country) within that one year period? Or do you have to stay in France for that one year?
Yes, with a long-stay one-year visa, you can leave France and visit other countries, including returning to your home country, within that one-year period. We're happy to answer any of your questions, so please get in touch on our website www.fabfrenchinsurance.com and we will address all your inquiries!
@@fabexpats Is there a limit to the days you can leave? We almost got our D7 visa for Portugal, but you could only leave the country in the first two years for a short amount of time. Thank you!
@@salestowelpros4691 Portugal and France have different visa rules. France doesn't have D7 visas but if you're applying for a French long stay visa you can leave the country as often as you want as long as you can still can France your country of residency so that usually translates into being in France for 183 days per annum.
@@fabienpelissier4433 Yes, we are looking at long term visa. I will be retired public school teacher USA. We are looking at homes online. Insurance for me here if I retire is $1700 per MONTH so I am wanting to retire, but not pay that price and that comes with fees for every Dr. visit. We will most likely schedule a meeting with FAB. Merci!
@@salestowelpros4691 Good morning, between 65 and 70 years old insurance would be under $3000 (per annum) for your visa and cherry on the pie you probably would be part of the French national healthcare by the end of your first year's visa meaning that you can dismiss that private medical insurance and switch to top-up health insurance (that we call a Mutuelle) and that would cost 2 to 3 times cheaper then. Feel free to book a time with me and I'll explain all your options and the whole relocation process => calendly.com/fab-advisors/moving-to-france-consultation
horrible voice
curious about the new french immigration law on limiting access to social services for foreigners. I know the courts have turned back some of the draconian measures but I was curious if the new law impacts a foreigners ability to apply for national health care with a long stay tourist visa after living in France for more than 3 months?
So far it doesn't so I'd say so far so good 😉
Bonjour Fab, Merci for demystifying the Visa / Carte de Sejour process!❤❤❤🤓🤓🤓

Hi
For 401k or IRA withdrawals from a US plan, you should have no taxes payable to France at all, not income or social charges, as they are considered US sourced retirement income. The same is true for US social security payments. Even if you are taking the money while being French resident.
Yes although it's US specific, all sources of "pension income" from the US are tax free indeed BUT there is a grey area when it comes to what they call the "PUMA tax" who may still be taxed but if you file your tax return properly shouldn't indeed.
