Great review and tutorial. I am still seeking for a solution. SmartDEYEdongleV4 looks most promising, but i am a fred of open source stuff. thanks for the beautiful video, PLEASE I NEED HELP. I ordered the esp32 and the shield board for my Deye 16kw inverter, i tried to save and install the edited code to my esp32 but I kept getting this error code: Error: (The program size (1874333 bytes) is greater than maximum allowed (1835008 bytes) *** [checkprogsize] Explicit exit, status 1 Flash: [==========] 102.1% (used 1874333 bytes from 1835008 bytes) ========================= [FAILED] Took 28.56 seconds =========================) CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE ?
Hi @elsadoo, sorry for the late reply. I have read some issues online when you have too many components installed and it seems to vary based on the version of ESPHome you are running. I would start by trying to reduce the size of the YAML code items you are installing. Comment out the web server ands see if that helps, you have use #'s to do this.
It looks like it is pretty close so that should work, please let me know
Hi would you be willing to share the esphome yaml file for a 16 kw single phase inverter as per your video?
Hi @jolambinon9775, I use the 8kw code from the Slipx06 github page. You just have to take out the # tags from the queries for the 3rd mppt controller data, they are in the code just # tagged out as the 8kw obviously only has 2 x mppt's so the 3rd one isn't enabled as default.
Thank you, will give it a try
help me, I got this error - sensor.modbus_controller: [source /config/esphome/esp32-logger.yaml:1630] - Expected integer, but cannot parse ${settings_skipped_updates} as an integer.
Hi @phu89pt1, when about are you getting the error, when you are trying to upload the code to the ESP? I would suggest having a look at the support thread on the Powerforum.co.za for the integration as there is lots of discussion there.
Hi, thank you very much for the walkthrough, it was of immense help to me. I think I need to change something though because the data that's collected from my deye inverter through solarman dongle seems to be wrong (and doesn't seem to change), like: ss battery soc: 1,0% or Ss day battery charge 6553,5 kWh In configuration of the add-on I changed in schedules the "change any" to true because it is suggested in the end of the "inverter driver"s section that "With solarman you have to reduce the frequency that you read" but nothing happened. Do you have idea, what might be wrong?
Hi @gergokovacs3911, sorry I can't be of much help as I use the ESPhome integration myself at the moment. There is however a support thread on the powerforum.co.za and KellerZA is pretty active there. Alternatively you can leave a message on the Github and check there for suggestions for fault finding.
Hi how you How do I get in touch with you
Hi @limaliaaslam7798, message me on the Powerforum.co.za @Sc00bs
For the adjustable grid settings for the inverter , is that accessible via the normal dongle or do you need the fancy direct connection?
Hi @DanieldaCosta2000 , If you want to be able to change battery settings etc, the Kellerza integration is a good place to start, if you have a Solarman dongle (depending on firmware version but most work) you can change settings, you are however a little restricted on the refresh rate as you can bog the dongle down. Next option is to add a USB-RS485 adapter which are pretty cheap and will allow for a faster refresh rate. 3rd option is to use ESPhome with a ESP32/RS485 Shield, allows for a bit more flexibility with total kwh calculations etc being done on the ESP and takes the load of the Hassio box. The Sunsynk dongle doesn't allow for settings changes (or it didn't last time I looked anyway) and you would need to use a USB-RS485 adapter to change the settings.
Good day, Many thanks for you plugin. It working great! Just one question, I have a Sunsynk 12kW single phase inverter and are using all 3 mppt's (PV1, PV2 & PV3). I can only see PV1 & PV2 in Home Assistant. Any way you can help me finding data of PV3? Thanks,
Hi @wynstok Unfortunately I can't use this integration any longer as I now have a DEYE and I can't use it with the Sunsynk dongle to update the video. I am pretty sure you can set it up for the 3rd MPPT and would suggest having a look at the Wiki on the github page. github.com/gdwaterworth/Home-Assistant---E-Linter-Logger---Sunsynk/wiki
Hello, can I use one esp32 to connect three converter TTL to RS485. Thanks for answer
Hi @schwarzimker5257, I assume you have three inverters you want to connect? To be totally honest, I am not 100% sure but I think that you might be able to just daisy chain the RS485 connection to each of the inverters, query each inverter individually based on their addresses on the RS485 bus and avoid having to buy 3 x RS485 board. I would strongly recommend using the ESP32 Shield as they have a LOT less problems with installation. Is featured in my video, "a better way to connection Home Assistant". Maybe have a chat to the guys on the Powerforum as there are a load of people there with more experience than me in RS485 connections.

Hi, best place for support on the addons is on the KellerZA github page or on the Powerform.co.za
Thank you for your interesting video. It's a pity that I have Home Assistant running in Docker. I use the Solarman integration and only have access to HACS.... I guess is no way of installing it!
You should still be able to install it. What problems are you having?
@@SolarIntegrations After your comment, I saw it can be adapted to Docker. I use the wifi dongle, but the container errors when reading sensors, like the format is different (used -sensors all).
Hi everyone, There is a lack of sample and documentation using HAS with PyModBus. I am confused as what IP address to be used in PORT if it uses PyModbus instead of Solarman. I tried solarman method but somehow there is a conflict with Cloud and Local.
Hi @unwired , I would suggest posting either to the KellerZA's github page or alternatively you can often find him on the powerforum.co.za forums with your questions. He knows his integration backwards and is usually pretty quick to assist people where he can.
I entered everything from your video for my solar inverter. Mine with S/N: 17XXX, it can connect but all values does not make any sense. Some 0, some -100, it does produce values but all of them are wrong values
Can I suggest installing the Integration from Kellerza, is better and allows you multiple ways of communicating with your inverter, not only the via the dongle. Also allows you to write settings back to the inverter. Check it out at ruclips.net/video/X_ypBi7iuJc/видео.html
Great info, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Hello @1984spanier, apologies, I don't speak German and have to rely on Google Translate :-). If you are struggling with the Sunsynk integration I would like to recommend trying the KellerZA integration that I did a video on as it is better than the SUnsynk one. ruclips.net/video/BJzJSi6TZMk/видео.html&lc=UgxLQ5eP5Ix8oHLf6Jl4AaABAg
@@SolarIntegrations Hi, thank you for your answer. I now use Google Translate too :) Does the link you sent me also work with an e-linter data logger?
@@1984spanier Yes, it should do, e-linter make the Solarman dongles. There are however some versions of the dongles that are not compatible with the direct connection from Home Assistant but it worth giving it a try. Please let me know how it goes.

@@1984spanier Have you had a look on the Github page for the integration?
I never comment on RUclips but I'm so pleased that this worked and wanted to say thank you! Spent hours and hours trying to find some integration or add on that would work for my SunSynk inverter and finally came across your video. Made some simple graphs from the entities which look great. Now to playing around with the settings....
Thank you for your reply, it is nice to know that my video's are helping people get their inverters connected :-) , you should really check out the KellerZA integration as it allows you to change your inverter settings from Home Assistant which is very useful.
How do you adjust the geyser element factor to the correct Wattage on HA?
Hi @brandon-leesmith1815 , the smart switch will report the power usage in watts, you shouldn't need to adjust any factors.
Hi, is here eventually someone who has integrated the Deye12k Hybrid High Voltage inverter (Deye SUN-12K-SG01HP3 )? Or a have seen an integration somewhere on the net? I searched a long time without success. Kind regards Michael ...and really good Video !!
Hi Michael, there are quite a few integrations, best option in my opinion is the ESP32 with the RS485 shield I covered in my video ruclips.net/video/EN5GjEbM4fo/видео.html although the integration from KellerZA ruclips.net/video/X_ypBi7iuJc/видео.html is also a good option. If you go the ESp32 route you will need to load the YAML file for the 3-phase inverter available on Slipx's Github page as the registers are slightly different to the single phase inverters.
@@SolarIntegrations Thank you very much! I started with finding a solution without additional hardware....but this seems to be not stable because of the not stable solarman stuff. So esp home is okay for me but try to find someone who has integrated my high voltage 3p inverter all ready. Thanks again for your great videos
@@michaelheckhuis8342 The YAML code is all built around the MODBUS document provided to us by DEYE with the addresses of the data. I doubt very much that DEYE would change the Modbus addresses because they have a new inverter. They may add a few new ones. These addresses also seem to be pretty common across manufacturers. You can check the document for the 3-phase inverter out at docs.google.com/document/d/1tQNQXa5o_k9obXTvQfcZukV8cpeU7ePatzm-wjBIOQ4/edit?usp=sharing
@@SolarIntegrations I will try it but have to do a lot preparation before. Thanks again for your help. Kind regards Michael
@@michaelheckhuis8342 Do yourself a favour if you do want to go with an ESP32 and just get the ESP32 + Shield from either Smarthomeintegrations.co.za or from China (pricing is good though from Smarthome). Is way more problematic using a board rather than the shield and the RS485 boards are usually 5v whereas the inverters is at 3.3v
any idea how to add smart load power consumption in this card for deye inverter
not sure100% sure, best is to speak to author of the card, Slipx06, on either his Github page or on the powerforum.co.za
Excellent work here and I used it happily until I rebooted and realised it doesn't persist across HA restarts. Am I missing something? Mine just reverts to the total grid usage value from the inverter without the calculation it seems.
Hi, i just did the install and run into a not so similar but similar issue. My issue was that my input sensor resets every day so i knew my readings would be wrong. so to solve this i did the following. 1) Create a "Utility meter" helper under the Devices tab 2) use the input sensor that you normally would. 3) use "No Cycle" for the reset 4) untick Periodically Resetting 5) tick Sensor always available Then use this new sensor as your input sensor for the video. to my understanding this data is persistent. will see how it goes.
Thanks for the suggestion @CorneBreed, I think I am probably going to move the Prepaid meter counter to my ESP32 as mine is loosing the sensor value every time my Home Assistant is rebooted. I think having the counter running on the ESP32 will make it more stable.
@@SolarIntegrations yes please keep us posted, i would like to do the same, just rebooted and ran into the same issue. im currenlty using Home assistant Glow for impulse tracking, but reboot still lost the prepaid reading.
@@CorneBreed but that’s why you need to use your total sensor and not a daily so it’s always persistent.
@@SolarIntegrations Perhaps remove the "initial: 0" line from your config. From the docs: "If you set a valid value for initial this integration will start with the state set to that value. Otherwise, it will restore the state it had prior to Home Assistant stopping."
Is there a similar integration to directly communicate with the SunSynk dongle from magpie?
Unfortunately not, the only way to speak to the Sunsynk Dongle is via the cloud which means that the Sunsynk server needs to be running as well as your internet connection. The data is also limited to the refresh rate of the Sunsybk server so once every 3 minutes by default. Better to use the KellerZA integration with a USB-RS485 adapter and speak to the inverter directly.
Brilliant video and was instrumental in me getting our generator set-up. I have a few notes for people who want to auto start a generator that is supplied with an ATS designed to start the gen when there's a power cut but want to use it on the inverter. I assume these are pretty common similar across the world. We're in Kenya.. - Wire the gen signal from the inverter across the manual/auto switch on your ATS - This will mean when gen signal is on it will close the dry relay and switch your ATS to auto, as you have no loads connected it will start gen - When signal goes off gen will shutdown as ATS will see it as now back in manual mode - Gen force needs to be off as this is needed for manual start but for auto just keeps the relay closed - Gen signal and gen charge on + starting % in battery settings - System work mode - Gen charge for the times you want to charge and the % on the right will be where the gen shuts down This should trigger the generator to turn on when the % goes too low. From testing if there's a grid supply it won't start the generator so should only start if battery is low and there's no grid power coming in. 🙂
That is correct, it won't start the generator if there is grid as the inverter can't sync to the generator freq. and the grid freq. at the same time.
Hi, really enjoy your videos. Any chance you can help with a video configuring Solar assistant card monitoring a Deye inverter into HA like you did with Solarman card?
Hi @brentthompson7233, Unfortunately I have absolutely no experience with Solar Assistant. My understanding is that it gets the data to Home Assistant using the MQTT broker. You will need to convert the MQTT data to sensors in Home assistant and you will then be able to use the Solarman Card. www.home-assistant.io/integrations/sensor.mqtt/
Hello again : ) thank you for your work, i now have found the 3 missing sensors. i will do all my dashbords new to mqtt :) thank you for inspiration to try it again and again until 2 years :) thank you
Glad it worked out for you @cnc_mill
This is better than Solar Assistant to Home Assistant?
Using Home Assistant allows you to integrate with all your other smart devices and do automations using your inverter data. Solar Assistant is pretty much a stand alone system to replace the SolarmanPV/Sunsynk cloud, not sure if they have any integrations as yet.
@@SolarIntegrations Thank. you, I am in the level of doing some research on HAS and will connect my Deye to HAS and the rest of the House energy usage. Also I wanted to remotely control the Deye charging and also automate it if possible using OpenWeather API.
@@unwired I have done a video on a pool automation using Solcast to forecast my production and then turn my pool pump on when I have sufficient excess energy.

I zoomed in and added the calculation for the prepaid units left as the file supplied is missing that part. Also note i allowed negatives in the remaining units to allow for errors in the script. Then I added the mode: box to the prepaid_units to change it from slider. - Hope this helps. ### Prepaid Meter # Input number for entering prepaid units input_number: prepaid_units: name: Enter Prepaid Units from Meter initial: 0 min: 0 max: 999 step: 1 unit_of_measurement: "kWh" mode: box icon: mdi:home-lightning-bolt-outline prepaid_units_left: name: Enter Prepaid Units Left initial: 0 min: -999 max: 999 step: 1 unit_of_measurement: "kWh" icon: mdi:home-lightning-bolt-outline initial_grid_import: name: Initial Grid Import initial: 0 min: 0 max: 99999 step: 1 unit_of_measurement: "kWh" icon: mdi:counter # Input datetime to store the last update time input_datetime: last_update: name: Last Update has_date: true has_time: true # Template sensor to calculate remaining units template: - sensor: - name: "Prepaid Units Left" icon: mdi:home-lightning-bolt-outline unit_of_measurement: "kWh" state: > {% set initial_import = states('input_number.initial_grid_import') | float %} {% set current_import = states('sensor.deye_total_energy_bought') | float %} {% set units = states('input_number.prepaid_units') | float %} {% set used_units = current_import - initial_import %} {{ (units - used_units) | round(2) }} - name: "Units Used Since Last Update" icon: mdi:flash unit_of_measurement: "kWh" state: > {% set initial_import = states('input_number.initial_grid_import') | float %} {% set current_import = states('sensor.deye_total_energy_bought') | float %} {{ (current_import - initial_import) | round(2) }} - name: "Last Update Date" icon: mdi:calendar state: > {{ states('input_datetime.last_update') }}
Thanks Peter, I will update the file, not sure why the YAML file is different in the video, I recorded the video about 30 times so maybe used a different clip for some reason
HI. thanks for the great videos. Can you maybe check this: # Template sensor to calculate remaining units - platform: template sensor: - name: Prepaid Units Left icon: mdi:home-lightning-bolt-outline unit_of_measurement: kWh state: "{{ states('input_number.prepaid_units_left') | float }}" - name: Units Used Since Last Update icon: mdi:flash unit_of_measurement: kWh state: > {% set initial_import = states('input_number.initial_grid_import') | float %} {% set current_import = states('sensor.esphome_8k_sunsynk_sunsynk_total_grid_import') | float %} {{ (current_import - initial_import) | round(2) }} - name: Last Update Date icon: mdi:calendar state: | {{ states('input_datetime.last_update') }} I can be wrong, but maybe there need sum calculations -name: Prepaid Units Left?
Hi Christo, The calculations are done in the script portion of the yaml file update_prepaid_units: alias: Update Prepaid Units sequence: - service: input_number.set_value target: entity_id: input_number.prepaid_units data: value: "{{ states('input_number.prepaid_units') | float }}" - service: input_number.set_value target: entity_id: input_number.prepaid_units_left data: value: "{{ states('sensor.prepaid_units_left') | float }}" - service: input_number.set_value target: entity_id: input_number.initial_grid_import data: value: "{{ states('sensor.inverter_total_grid_import') | float }}" - service: input_datetime.set_datetime target: entity_id: input_datetime.last_update data: datetime: "{{ now().strftime('%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S') }}" mode: single
You can also use ChatGPT to check your scripts for you to make sure you have everything working. It works very well most of the time
Hello @SolarIntegrations. Firtst of all Thanks for your great effort and knowledge of you your video. I have a little confusion. Apparently aux port can be set to smart load (output) or gen input. Lets say: electrician install a gen inlet which has male probes. I ve been using as gen input. But what if accidentally change setting to smartload, wouldn't my gen inlet fitting male probes be active and expose electrical danger?
Hi @uthanwintun ,I have never considered that but I think that you might be correct. Am not sure if there are any safety features that would stop damaging the generator if you changed the settings by mistake or if it would even do so.
Please note that there is a new HACS repo for this addon Follow the link here Use the custom repo link github.com/BJReplay/ha-solcast-solar Select the category type integration Then once it's there (still in HACS) click the INSTALL button Then go to the HA Devices and Services and add a new Solcast Integration
Thanks, looks like the original author got tired of the same questions all the time. Good to see someone else taking it on now.
Hi, thanks for a great video, I cannot get the calculations to work on mine, get all the elements, as well as the Units Used Since Last Update is updating, correctly, but the remaining balance isn't updating at all
Hi @ZanderPotgieter , have you changed the sensor - sensor.inverter_total_grid_import in the YAML code to whatever the name is off the one your integration is using?
@@SolarIntegrations Yes I did change that sensor in the yaml file, and it is correctly increasing as my usage is going up, but the Remaining Balance isn't updating /deducting the units used
Maybe check the value of the sensor in the Development Tools menu.
So the "Remaining Balance (kwh)" should be the "Prepaid Unit" minus the "Units Used Since Last Update Kwh), you arte saying that your one is not doing that? Maybe check the value of the sensor sensor.prepaid_units_left?
Hi @@SolarIntegrations , thanks, I will have a look and let you know, thanks a lot
Does this work with sunsynk dongle?
Hi @rashaadalli1529 , unfortunately there are no integrations that can speak to the Sunsynk Dongle directly, they all have to go via the Sunsynk cloud server. The best option is to just purchase a USB-RS485 adapter (pretty cheap) and connect directly to the inverter. This has the advantage of having a much faster refresh than the Sunsynk cloud (once every +-15 seconds vs once every 3 min) and you not having to have internet access for it to work (and the SUnsynk cloud is not the most reliable at the moment).
@@SolarIntegrations thanks I’m going to do this! Appreciate the response
@@rashaadalli1529 No problem Rashaad, if your Home Assistant box is not close to your inverter there are also other options available. Just have a look on the KellerZA github page and e explains all the hardware options there.
my deye inverter status is always disconnected with solarman no data is updating in home assistant extended system version is 1.1.00.10
Hi @vaibhavhihoriya526, Sounds like you may something going on with the wifi to the dongle? You can check the signal strength to the dongle in SolarmanPV under the device logger info, my one is 94 for comparison and I have an access point a few metres away from it. I would also suggest using the KellerZA integration, it is much easier to setup and allows for thew writing of settings back to the inverter.
@@SolarIntegrations nop wifi is perfectly fine in application data is reflecting perfectly and also i can ping on dongle ip can access dongle control panel through browser as well
@@vaibhavhihoriya526 Would try using the KellerZA intergration instead, is much better.
Did you add a device(sensor) to sense when grid power is off?
Hi Dylan, you can use an existing sensor to detect when the inverter is disconnected from the grid. It is usually called "binary_sensor.inverter_grid_connected_status" but may change depending on the integration you are using.
Awesome guide, very detailed. I have a 5kw sunsynk ( intending to install a 2nd) will this work in my case? Does the wifi dongle continue to function for updates etc?
Glad you enjoyed the video :-), Yes, the existing dongle will keep on sending it's data to the cloud
Hello can you explain how you configure mbusd with a connector rs485 im search since a few days and i haven't solution !!! Thanks in advance !!! Sorrry for my english
Hi @faridlahmanes7548 , have you watched my video on the KellerZA integration. You can use that with a USB-RS485 to speak to the inverter.
@@SolarIntegrations hello !!!! yes !!! of course !!!!!
The reason why you didn't saw the prodection for today was more then 30kWh is because it was 5 kwh/hour. Not for 1 day!
Which geyser switches do you use? I used contactors in conjunction with Sonoff Basic's, but those can't measure the power, it only measures the power the actual contactor consumes.
Hi, I use a mix of Sonoff Pow 16A's & a Chinese 63A Breaker which also runs on Ewelink on my geysers/borehole etc. www.takealot.com/geyser-smart-wi-fi-switch-energy-monitor/PLID93647687
@@SolarIntegrations Good morning, I still haven't been able to communicate with my inverter through the RS485 port. I had to make a Y cable because it seems that everything is now grouped on the can bus + RS485 battery port but even so it is impossible to communicate I receive nothing from the rs485 am I configuring the Mbusd interface incorrectly? I don't know. Could you tell me how to configure Mbusd correctly, I admit that I am completely lost! for the moment I work with RS232 but I find the refresh times very slow. thanks in advance
Hello Thanks for the video, When choosing the data center I had the choice only to choose Western Europe Data Center however according to locations i have to choose Central Europe data Center which was not available. Please advise.
Hi Farhan, I don't think that it really makes that much difference which data centre you use as long as when you are looking for the keys for your Tuya devices you do so on the data centre that your account is hosted on.
@@SolarIntegrations Thank you for your prompt response. When I initially installed the Tuya application, I selected Lebanon as my current location. However, I encountered an issue when attempting to choose the data center that covers Lebanon. It seems that I'm unable to select the appropriate data center for my region within the app. Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this issue or how to select the correct data center for Lebanon? Thank you for your assistance.
Hi @@farhanaraji8831 , according to the Github page at github.com/tuya/tuya-home-assistant/blob/main/docs/regions_dataCenters.md , you should be selecting the Central Europe Data Center datacentre.
@@SolarIntegrations Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate your assistance in addressing my concern. Regarding the data center selection, I understand that the Central Europe Data Center should be chosen. However, when attempting to select the data center, only the Western Europe Data Center appears available. The other options seem to be unavailable as they are grayed out or "blinked off." Could you please advise on how I can proceed with selecting the Central Europe Data Center? Your guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sorry @@farhanaraji8831 , I have no other ideas for you, maybe check the support & feedback section in the app and ask them there.
