Kinetics WaveHangers are designed to allow for half-inch deflection - once the weight of a gypsum sailing is screwed to the hat channel, the wave hanger springs will sink down a little little bit. I’m trying to keep my ceiling decoupled from the wall, as per manufacturer and acoustic designer recommendations, but if I make the gap too big could get even bigger once the weight pulls the ceiling ...

Many people use mini split pumps to their “soundproof” studios and need to provide some sort of fresh air ventilation. That approach often needs a fan to help circulate the air. In my case, I have a couple 8” square vents pushing cool air into the room so I’m just adding a passive vent that will connect to the foyer near my studio space, where the main return will be pulling air and recycling i...
Where to add Ethernet switch in home studio

HVAC drain, add a tee?

My 5yo 4.5 tonvariable Bosch air handler is sweating a bit, in my spray foam attic that is averaging 80° and 65% humidity. I've recently washed the coils outside, tried to vacuum the condensate PVC pipe from the outside, but there's still 1/8th inch of water in the safety pan where it's sweating upstairs. Is it not a good idea to add a clean out tea after the P-trap? The three-quarter inch PVC ...

    Bud you have more issues than adding a tee. There should never be water in the condensate pan. Its only purpose is an emergency catch pan in the event an issue arises.

    • @GregoryGuay
      @GregoryGuay 4 месяца назад

      That condensate could have four years of funk building up in there, right? So I’m thinking a tea might be the perfect flush. The water has dried up since I’m running too humidifiers in the bottom floor, I cleaned the coils outside, and the window unit unit in the unfinished second floor. it has been spray foam and sealed, but it’s too large of a space for the window unit, but perhaps that helped a little bit.

      @@nervouswreck392 I suppose I can replace the current 90deg elbow with the 90deg P-Trap (probably with a removable union each side - this way I can reach towards the trap w/ a cleaning snake of sorts, and then flush the system downstream. I just realized that the 3' stretch after the P-Trap is actually sloped the wrong way!!! It is correct as it continues around the corner, but damn! I guess the positive pressure from the unit is enough to push the water, but still, seems like quite an oversight on the install, isn't it?? The unit should have been raised up a couple more inches....?

      @@GregoryGuay hard to tell degrees/angle from a pic/video. It doesn't. Show up. What I do once a year is pop the cap off my clean out and take me garden hose and blast it through. • @GregoryGuay
      @GregoryGuay 4 месяца назад

      @@nervouswreck392 The first leg, after the trap, is backward slope 1/8" per foot. So the air handler has to push the water trickle up hill before it turns the corner and goes down. Maybe this is brilliant to ensure the trap always has a little water? Or maybe it's an oversight on the installer. Apparently it's not that huge of a deal if it seems to have been working. Well, there was water in my secondary pan but that has dried up since I ran dehumidifiers downstairs and put an inefficient window unit in the (sealed) attic/unfished 2nd story.

    Hi the Fishman Aura have boost? or something like that to do solos...?

    • @GregoryGuay
      @GregoryGuay 6 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, no. It would be amazing if it had reverb and boost. however, I do use a different mini-boost pedal for aclean boost and it works great! While the Aura does not "do it all" - the tone is AMAZING. There are some other Fishman EQ preamps the DO have boost but may not have the modeling. The modeling...I"m on the fence about, but I do use %20 acoustic modeling it gives it "some air" to soften the direct acoustic sound. I've had this pedal for years. I'm not convinced it added much to my sound regardless of guitar or pickup system. Most tone shaping was improved by a better pickup and amplifier. The feedback control and compressor is a strong feature. Good demo.

    • @GregoryGuay
      @GregoryGuay 2 года назад

      I agree with you. The guitar quality, pick up, speaker and amplifier system, and essentially the users ability to equalize a mix are more important than the Fishman Aura. I find that I like a maximum of 20% modeling just for a subtle amount of “air“ added to the blend. otherwise it starts to sound ‘boxy’ and potentially ruins a decent guitar tone. In the particular instance I like to use the Fishman, when I play a church gig I’m essentially using it as a tuner, DI, light compression, and my %20 blend. If I bypass the AurA and go directly to the mixer there’s no one in that room that would think any less of my guitar tone and playing. What context are you using yours?

    • @marciofaraco1854
      @marciofaraco1854 2 года назад

      @@GregoryGuay I listen with headphones ATH-M50x Audio-Technica. You're right, we can't compare that with the room with a nice classical guitar. Kremona is a just ok guitar, nothing more. It's a small-body guitar with a Fishman that's a really bad piezzo system for nylons guitars and just ok for folks. Godin Multiac and his RMC system with privilege for the high mids and his plastic sound is not understandable. Really the worst. Ruben Flores, a small scale, soft guitar, is the least adapted guitar in this world to put a K&K, which is a good pickup, but has an excess of bass that needs an external preamp, try using a Para Acoustic DI Preamp , for example, so you can cut unwanted frequencies. Listen to the sound on a decent phone, it's an infinite bass wave. The Canadian luthier's guitar has two openings. One on the guitar bowl and another on the side, everything that an electroacoustic guitar doesn't need because it's the main reason for feedback. Even the LR Baggs system couldn't get a good sound. I would like to know which LR Baggs pickup is this, is it the Anthem? Finally, a modeling preamp really is the ultimate sin. What's the point of having a good guitar, with a wrong system and an unrealistic preamp? As said above, Para LR BAGGS would be a good choice for you. A pity because the AER is a good amplifier. I want you to know that it's nothing against you, it's just my opinion about it. The man went to the moon but he couldn't get a good acoustic guitar amplification system. I use, by way of elimination, a Yamaha NCX 1200R because the transducers are good and the guitar is built and (some places deafened) for the stage. I also have a 1972 Di Giorgio with K&K but I use it with an LR Baggs preamplifier. For very big stages, I have a Godin but I hate her, and at the end of every show I need some analysis sessions with my psychiatrist. Yamaha gave me these transducers which unfortunately are not sold on the market. They are the size of a Coca Cola cap, each, and are installed inside next to the saddle of the guitar, one in the bass and one in the treble. They are much more resistant to feedback because they are built in a different way. They are not exactly glued to the wood, they have a small protection in wood even that avoids the aggressive sound. I intend to use this but I still haven't found the ideal guitar. I even thought about a classic nylon Do Souto 1938 that I have but I'm afraid to travel with it. I need one that American Airlines can destroy on the trip lol

    Thanks for going through the settings. I love my Aura and use it with a Godin Multiac Nylon SA. The Hex pickup sounds reasonably good by itself on the unwound strings. However, the wound strings have this artificial buzz (quack?) that is very annoying. The Aura with a 50/50 blend cleans that right up. I've made a number of good recordings with it. However, I'm a flatpick w/fingers jazz/country/folk picker so I don't require the fidelity that you classical players desire.

      @@GregoryGuay Hey man. I actually have both the k2 and sm7b in my studio. At first, I used the k2 all the time but I actually prefer the sm7b for vocals now, it's less airy and more modern sounding. The k2 is actually really good for drum overheads I have found , if you can afford a pair.

      @@ciantisdall good to know- I think it’s time I purchase one, especially for some of my hard rock type vocals. Although, I heard that Hetfield simply uses a 58 in the studio when he records. I’ll have to research that, I guess it’s all in the preamp and mixing after that. I do like my Octava MC012 for overheads

    Are you freaking serious? Take those damn muscles off your face, what the hell is this shipt? Do you have so little self-respect that you would try to perform music with a muzzle on? I was always worried about the government being oppressive, turns out the people and the corporations will do it for them. Really ashamed in society after this year

      1) you are the one lacking in respect right here. 2) if your pride is bruised by a mask that’s OK, but I don’t mind wearing one for a decent paying gig. 3) when was your last decent paying gig? 4) I sub-contract teach music at a kindergarten school twice per week and I’m happy to oblige to their ‘masks on for guests’ safety policy. It allows me to share music. 5) I have plenty of self respect.

      @@GregoryGuay paying gig? It's been well over 10 years since I was in a band or anything, I just have a regular nine-to-five job and have for quite a few years, it's great after working and pizza restaurants and warehouses and crap like that for ever. I'm actually the only employee besides the owner, pretty cushy gig if you call it a gig. I support your right to wear your muzzle if you choose to what I don't support is technocratic overlords telling you to do it whether you want to or not. Get with it dude.

    Hi Gregory....you are one of the few classical guitar players I can actually listen to...very nice my friend, I can hear the passion you for music, just like I hear it in Segovia and in Sabicas

      Thank you very much Andre. I'm trying to release some more music and clean up my RUclips channel here. I do have a much finer recording of the Regondi and more on my Spotify account: Gregory Guay, classical guitar. Cheers.

      The thin Kremona? Definitely not traditional flamenco but I"m sure a gigging flamenco guitarist would enjoy it.

    Very helpful video. I have a decent classical (Cervantes), but I am hesitant to drill a hole in it for a pick up. Thinking about the Schertler DYNG. But honestly, the Godin sounded fantastic to me, and I wouldn't have to deal with feedback issues of transducers, or brittleness of piezo. This video is about 18 months old. Now that you've had some time with these, what is your go to guitar for live performance?

      Glad you appreciated it. Takes years to develop and experiment with guitars, pickups, amps....just to get a simple 'classical' or hybrid sound. I"ve played more and more with a latin band @boxofstrings #cajadecuerdas and this has allowed me to put the Godin through some effects processors as well. However, when it comes to a simple traditional classical sound - I do not regret drilling a whole in my $6,000 Dominelli guitar. Sounds AMAZING when I need to plug in for a concert. What did you decide to do w/ the Cervantes?

      Thanks for the follow up. Still haven’t pulled the trigger on a pickup. Hearing good things about the barbera soloist though. There’s a shop in North Carolina that puts that pick up in Cordoba GK pros and sells them new. May go that route. No hurry right now as live music had dried up a bit in my town due to COVID-19
