How Much CO2 is left in my tank? Let's find out:
Short, to point and very informative. Answered basic questions I have but couldn't find the answers elsewhere. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
No it's not yet! It only applies to the hobbies distiller association.... so if you arent a member of that no. And even for them is still under question ...i. hoping it will be
Hi i have connected 3 full new gas bottles my pressur gauge is fine my tank gauge is on zero/ red and the bottom of gas bottle freezing up .what could be wrong with it please
The ice on the bottom of the CO2 tank is telling. Cold CO2 tanks display very low pressure therefore, bring the tank up to room temperature and watch the tank pressure rise to nearly 900 psi/62 bar assuming that there is liquid CO2 in the tank. Even a cold tank should have enough working pressure to push or carbonate a beverage. The most accurate way to discover how much CO2 remains in the tank is to weigh the tank and subtract the tare weight of the tank which is stamped on most bottles. Thank you for watching and thank you for your question.
My welding shop said that if you use an argon regulator on co2 that it can ruin the internals since liquid can come out, or gas can condense into a liquid. Furthermore several co 2 regulators have a heating element or heat sink to prevent freezing. The other way around shouldn't probably be done since co2 is 1800 PSI and argon is 2000 - 3000 PSI.
You’re welcome. Texas
I have this 65 liter version! Would love to see some videos of runs on it :)
Since distillation is slightly less illegal in the US perhaps we can put something together on a 35L and discuss the (very minor) differences in doing the same with a 65L.
This sounds very familiar to me...
This is a very informative video
This is good
This is very good!
very helpful
Thanks for watching!
interesting
Exciting
We think that this is going to be quite a lot of fun.
Probably going to have to wait until all of the appeals get cleared, but it would be nice if the law gets overturned. If New Zealand can have home distillation be legal without everyone going blind, I think the US can do the same.
We completely agree.
So how much for a copper pot still?
The pot still attachment for the DigiBoil and the BrewZilla is $139. Which is pretty much the definition of a bargain.
@@FYBS imma need me a distiller at some point.
We can help with that, without a doubt.

Good video man. You had me scared at first! Like holy crap!! Drilling involved?! Lol thanks
Take every opportunity to show off your tools.
I’ve noticed that almost everyone that uses this system only uses a quarter of the stone instead of all of it.
We use both a forward-to-backward and an up-and-away stroke depending on the situation. And you are right, using the entire stone does not happen often. We do flip the stones and swap left and right to try to even out the wear. It has worked out pretty well thus far and we have sharpened many, many knives.
Love this!
We really like ‘easy to please’ people.
Do I just leave the output valve open the whole time? Or do I leave it closed until a certain temperature?
There is a long answer here that deserves its own video. But let’s hit the highlights and answer your great question: I leave the valve closed until after the temperature spikes, falls, then stabilizes around 177F or 80C. This allows the still to equilibrate before product is collected. Again, great question. Thanks for watching.
@@FYBS great video. Gets right to the point

I have a tank for my Dj business: question is should I leave it inside my studio where I spend time doing work while it’s full of co2?
If your tank and valve are in good working order and not leaking then you will be fine to have the tank inside with you. Protect the valve from impact trauma and, in my opinion, remove the regulator when not in use. Here in the shop I secure my tanks with a chain to prevent them from tipping over. Keeping CO2 tanks inside is very common practice. Consider all of the home kegerators, aquariums, bars, and/or restaurants out there. Many of these have indoor CO2 tanks. Thanks for watching and thanks for reaching out. ~Lt. Dan

We’ve got a little bit of everything for everyone. That’s just how we roll.
I am a Newbie. Very nice video. I am Wondering how you were able tell bevel angle by just looking? Any help would be greatly appreciated
We discover the existing angle of the blade by painting the cutting edge with a permanent marker then experimenting with different angles until we find the settings that removes the most amount of ink/dye/paint along the blade. When a blade has been hand-sharpened it is sometimes necessary to select an angle that is a compromise between all of the different angles present on the blade and reprofile the edge with one angle along the entire length. Thanks for the excellent comment and for watching. ~Lt. Dan

CO2 always makes us sleepy. More research is needed to find out why...
@@FYBS Because it displaces oxygen. Lovely headaches also.
It would be nice if harvest right or the place that sold it to us would have mentioned this hinge. I really thought my door was broken
Thanks for watching and for letting us know that our video was helpful!
I was wondering about the water flow. I'm living in a hot country. I've seen that they advise 8l/min, but that's for the reflux model. I guess I must monitor the temp of the condenser output, should be around 25°C ?
Monitor your cooling outflow temperature. I advise keeping that temperature below 50C by increasing the cooling water flow rate as needed. If you find keeping the outflow below 50C to be impossible then try using frozen water bottles to keep your cooling water temperature low.
@@FYBS thanks a lot.
@@danielbarbieri8199 thanks for watching and thanks for reaching out.
You might have mentioned what battery you need. It's a CR123A
What a great tutorial! How is the quality of that cooler compared to a yeti? Lots of import knock offs, some better than others, been thinking of grabbing one to use as a cooler only. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! The cooler is nice and should last for years and years. Admittedly, I don’t have much experience with Yeti coolers to make a point-by-point comparison but this cooler is solid.
When I shut the door and it is off, I don’t get a full ring on the gasket when the door is closed, but it does suck in and create a full ring when it’s on. Should I have a full ring when it’s shut and not in operation? I would think that would allow air in after a batch is done and I am delayed at getting to it. Thank you.
If your machine is able to pull a vacuum then I wouldn’t adjust the hinge. If you are handy and like to tinker then you can shorten the distance between the flat hinge/bar and the front machine cover by turning the two bolts until the door and gasket are barely touching. Don’t overdo it. At the completion of a cycle if your machine very slowly losses its vacuum then there is a small leak somewhere. Which is not a big deal. My machine will lose suction if left for several hours. If I find my machine ‘completed’, with very cold trays, and zero vacuum I simply “add dry time” to warm the trays and to pull off any humidity that may have found its way into the machine. No big deal. I have let cycles sit for days after they have finished because of holidays or simply being too busy at the shop to bag up the food. Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Have you got a video on how to use on a digiboil or even a video on stuffed mesh how much mesh also a run video?
All of these are great topics and all of them are coming. A tear down of the reflux is currently in the pipeline.
That’s very neat mate
We have a Tilt that runs 24/7 as a demo in the shop. Having a near constant flow of fermentation data is addictive. Thanks for watching!
Why aren't the cooling lines sealed or soldered where they exit the tower?
Great question! When the still is operated correctly the end-cap is only slightly warm to the touch because the hot vapor has been cooled to a warm liquid by the cooling coil. If the still was completely sealed and the cooling system were to fail then there could be a dangerous build up of pressure. If you see steam or smell distillate coming from the openings around the cooling system then your cooling system has failed. You should always be able to touch the end cap of an Alcoengine pot or reflux still. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! ~ Lt. Dan
Excellent video, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
My door is doing this pretty badly. What should I do?
If your wobbly door behaves like mine in the video then leave it alone. All is well. If, on the other hand, your door is falling off the machine then you have a different problem. If you want to you can email some short movies of your door to the shop and we can take a look at what you have. www.fybs.us Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
@@FYBS thanks!!
Thanks for the video! Exactly the same problem that I have! However, mine has some miracle involved. I close the tank, the high press arrow is showing no movement at all for 3 days but after then it drops to zero within only a night. I have checked almost everything for a leakage but have not found any. I am thinking to put the tank with the regulator into a large bucket to check for bubbles but not sure my Kegland MK4 regulator is waterproof or at least water will not brake it. If you have any ideas please share I would appreciate a lot!
Is your leak still...leaking? It is strange that your leak seems to come and go. That's not typical. Sorry for the late reply...
@@FYBS nothing to sorry for!)) now the leak stable, high pressure gauge shows zero after one night or so. I sprayed soap water everywhere but no bubbles anywhere. Thinking of putting the gas with regulator into the bucket with water
@@davewebb8777 Let’s try this: Set the Working Pressure on the regulator to zero, turn on the gas, turn off the gas, and observe the high pressure gauge for movement. This will test the high pressure side of the regulator. If there is no leakage on the high side then create the shortest possible low pressure system (if your regulator has a ball valve use that) then set the pressure to 50psi. Turn off the supply of gas. Watch for a drop in pressure on the high pressure gauge while also listening carefully for a leak. This will test your regulator. To answer your water tolerance question: A regulator can be submerged. There is nothing sensitive to water inside. There will be water/moisture under the glass afterwards which I would find annoying. I would personally try to find the leak ‘dry’.
@@FYBS thank you. I will try your suggestion and let you know! Yes dry detection is preferable of course but if I don’t find a leak that way I will submerge it
Great Video. What is the volume per hr you get running through a 0.6 restrictor and the boiler at 500W ? Assuming cooling water is kept below 50 C.
Typically, I get around 350ml per hour through a 0.6 restrictor. The cooling water temperature does not impact the collection quality or quantity as long as all of the vapor is converted to a liquid. You will receive the same quality and quantity of final product with cooling water at 10 C as you will at 60 C. Thanks for watching!
Your simply wrong. Many new units have the problem of a loose hinge pin in the door. The design is that it should be tight to the door and moves along the slotted bracket when vacuum compresses the door seal. Wobbling in the soft acrylic hole will eventually enlarge the hole and puts excessive strain on the bottom hinge. I suggest you learn more before spreading false info.
We agree, mostly. The door is designed to slide front-to-back along the slot as the vacuum pulls the door into the gasket. If the hinge side were to be held fast then the pressure on this imaginary, stationary hinge would be intense and quickly fail. With the current design of the machine, there is no pressure put on the pins set in the acrylic door while in operation. Therefore, no wobbling or future enlargement of the holes is likely. If you have information to the contrary kindly share this documentation of the lower hinge sustaining damage. We all would love to see this information. I am a long-term Harvest Right dealer and Harvest Right freeze dryer owner; I have interacted with many machines. Not once have I encountered a legitimate faulty door hinge. I have talked with countless customers seeking a 'warranty repair' or advice on how to DIY fix their door to make the hinge solid (like every other door in their home.) This video is for everyone seeking a fix that does not exist. What drove this video into reality was a customer sharing a video of individuals selling a product to "fix" this "issue." Fixing a non-existent problem for profit is the true misrepresentation. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
@@FYBS Today HR admitted it was not correct. Of course there's no load on the hinge when closed with a vacuum. The problem is the rest of the time. Every time you open and close the door there IS load on the hinge pin. If just wallowing around in a loose hole was correct why are there slots at all? What possible reason is there for motion other than what occurs when the door seal compresses? If you're "long-term" then you remember when the flange nuts were splined, pressed in and tight fitting. Like many things at HR they decided to change to save a few pennies and it's backfired. Just like the crappy vacuum hose fittings.
