Eminen was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Back in 2003, he was sure to get a Grammy (Lose Yourself). That year (2003), the Grammy's were broadcast on CBS, from Madison Square Garden. If you know how television works, you won't be surprised to learn that CBS stations from around the US scrambled to find a connection for that valuable Grammy lead in. No m...

The last Checker Cab off the assembly line, 1982. This clip is from a doc highlighting Kalamazoo's "Hail Kalamazoo" Art Hop (2004). The event featured "Taxi's" decorated by various artists placed around the city. I intercut the footage with a story about Kalamazoo's automotive manufacturing history, specifically the world famous Checker Cab. It was broadcast on WGVU (PBS) in Grand Rapids, Michi...
Caught Downloading Music (Back in the Day) Sued by the RIAA

This is another in the seemingly never ending list of my unfinished documentaries.😎 Did you used to download music in the late 90's, early 2000's? I certainly did. I discovered file sharing/P2P while in grad school. I must of downloaded half the damn internet. But here's the thing, at no time did it feel like stealing. Our family business growing up was a small store, so I know stealing is bad....

Просмотров 51 тыс.3 года назад
Graffiti writers (back in the day) often shoplifted spray paint. In this clip "Wisk" demonstrates his racking technique. "Rev" calculates the costs of his work...f you bought all the paint, and "Relm" describes his own version of buy "one get one" or 3! "Wisk" is from the West Coast Artists crew (WCA) and both "Rev" and "Relm" are with Kings Stop At Nothing (KSN). This clip was shot in the late...

David & Dorothy - A Love Story

What a fascinating couple. I first saw them one afternoon while driving in west L.A. I saw this guy carrying a large wooden cross on his shoulder, and beside him as they walked down Santa Monica Blvd, was a woman clutching a small wooden crucifix/cross. It was a stunning site. They were both friendly and quite sweet. They both claimed a miracle occurred in their life. Shot on VHS in the 80's. L...

Saving Tiger Stadium Historic Field Promo, Martha Reeves, Detroit City Council

The focus shifts to from saving Tiger Stadium to maintaining and restoring the historic field. For more than three years, a group of metro-Detroiters have showed up at the corner of Michigan & Trumbull to mow, clean, and groom the historic ball field. the Navin Field Grounds Crew has been willfully trespassing on city property to maintain the field they love. The flagpole is the only physical r...

This playlist contains various rough cuts, promos, trailers etc. from our unfinished documentary called (at various times) "Force Out" or "Diamond in the Rough" among others. Because these are rough cuts, there are redundancies (repeated footage) among the clips, but each is somewhat different (you're getting a peek behind the film making/editing curtain here!). These guys are old as shit now and probably haven’t done this crap in years most likely homeless 😂
A lesson in de-escalation tactics.
That first shot...is that the wall Excel used for the album pics? Ben and Shaun were affiliated with KSN wikipedia tells me. I will be playing with them next month on a festival. Love that band. Gonna get me all the merch

what do u do when u get caught??
Damn wisk got fat 😂
beautiful
Wisk was up like a mfer when I was a kid back in 87’- 88’ I’m 51yrs old now in 2024.
You're absolutely right, wisk was all city during those years. That's when I shot "Bombing L.A.". He talks about numbering his tags/throw-ups and his style of racking paint from stores.
Wisk is such a chill dude
In Chicago there’s no more racking :( cans aren’t even sold in the city no more….
I heard black people completey ruined that city
Some mfers are always gonna write on ppls houses but public property should be free game, even the dude would probably agree
Hate to ask, how many of these guys are still with us today ?? Just curious
39:43 does anyone know where Plex is now ?
I really like hearing these vids. These writers logic blows me away. I am convinced Wisk has made up over half of his story. All the crews he says are all him n like 4 dudes. I wanna be in that world so bad. I bet he's cost the city 30 million bucks and opened the flood gate to make LA look like an alley
SO DOPE!!! I love how freaky writers are. Easily the most emotionally disturbed kids ever! I dont support vandals and any crime buttttt I love how deranged these guys are! The pathology fascinates me!
This stadium will always be remembered in my heart I miss it so much it’s sad to see it be being destroyed
Can some one make this in HD
TAG ALL CITY
Good old dayz.
This is an example of LA copying New York culture. NYC started everything and they just wanna be like us. Same thing still happening today. We had street gangs first. Graffiti, Rap music, and break dancing. All New York originated. I think LA peole are Lame! Just how i feel.
RIP TEMPT
David Arquette @17:44
Thought that was him
Im so glad i was a part of this movement,, graffiti for life ...
More people should see this if they want to learn about the homeless situation in the U.S, at least around this part of it. The fact the government allows homelessness and seeks to keep people homeless for its system tells us how inhumane capitalism is, among many other great wrongs it has committed and continues to commit.
That dudes excel hoodie is tough
Who??
isn't that Adam Siegel himself? bassplayer Shaun Ross seems to have some graffiti friends and made up the name Excel.
"Then you walk out like "Damn my shirt shrunk"."
Plex is not employed by CBS.
It's dope how the LA crews opened the books and now you'll see STP MSK CBS OTR all over the country. When they moved to Frisco in the 90s alot of other out of town cats showed up and it made for one of the dopest eras of Graff. I'm stoked I was there and I took some fliks
4:30 nah dog, it's cuz ur white
From the late 80's through the mid 90's I lived in L.A. and was a Graffiti Artist and I remember the way we were transforming from writers and artists to tag bangers and then real bangers, and it wasn't just us, it was the party crews, the dance crews and social clubs as well, the gangs, no matter what part of L.A., all were putting pressure or simply beating everyone up, and even as a writer I knew people that were both writers and bangers, and as more and more were put on the set the more gang like we became, I remember watching a fight break out between two taggers and one pulled a scriber out and stabbed the other, I got shot at a couple different times by some bangers but the craziest was after I had been featured on Fox News' Taggers Special Report, a rival crew which I knew a couple from Jr High now in High School and knew where I lived showed up on my street one day 14 deep trying to f*ck me up but my bf who lived across the street had his Uncle visiting and his aunt and her man and his mom's boy friend were at his house and the manager of my apts was outside BBQing with his homies and they scared the rivals so bad several pissed their pants, that's because my manager and his homies were from Fudgetown Mafia Crips, my bf's Uncle was from the local area gang NHLs, his mom's boyfriend was from 38th St, his mom was from NHLs too, his aunts man was from PF13, and all of them had put in major work for their hoods and did time for them, I know just before I moved away one of my crews had already started becoming tag bangers and kicking it with 18th St, but a few years later they started beefing with 18th St and cliqued up with WF, now my crew ATC isn't Addicted To Crime, now there the Alley Tiny Criminals, I was from a few crews which means I got up alot, in alot of areas and knew how to write, I was from ATC, GK, VK(818K), CBS and DYC and I know besides ATC, VK became a gang and so did GK, DYC has Tripled in size but was started by my brother, 2 of my homies and me, and CBS has Stayed as it was, an Elite Graffiti Artist Crew.
Definitely an LA graffiti story lol I don't know if other cities truly understand the different dynamic in what it means to be a Graff writer here in LA as well as the greater LA area too. The politics of it are completely different than any other city for sure. It's not as bad as it used to be, but everything that you described still goes on in one form or another, no doubt about that... especially if you're Mexican and your crew is from a city or neighborhood with a heavy real deal Varrio that controls that area, then most likely one has to deal with this dynamic, not to mention that 9/10 they probably have family members from that Varrio as well lol LA def is a trip, party crews used to act like gangs too...shit even Hardcore Punk has crews/gangs not only now, but even since the inception of the music & scene here LA in the 80's.
87-88.
