Saw one of these in local shop for $100, when i was right out of highschool. The cool old owner saw my perplexed look and came over to bet me that I couldn't figure it out. Then gave me an awesome history lesson, just like this. Still regret not buying the widowmaker.

The 1911 is the most Iconic Semi Auto pistol ever made. It has the stopping power needed when you need it. My dad had a Military issue Remington 1911 with ammunition along with spare magazines he bought in the 1950 s . I learned to shoot with his 45 along with my Ruger target model 22 one of the first generation of those target pistols. I was talking to an older man not long ago that I noticed was carrying a 1911 45 that he brought back from Vietnam that he carried while there . I asked him about it and he said if a 1911 ain’t a 45 caliber then it ain’t an actual 1911 or worth having. Those are his words on 1911s . I had to agree with him on that.

This book was super intense. I usually listen to audiobooks when working out to make pass time quicker and to time myself and I ended up cutting the workout short to listen to the audiobook closely at home. A 10/10 book. Due to the contents in the book I’m not surprised movie studios and directors have struggled trying to make an adaptation of this book.

Never used the 1911, but used the Hi-Power. You could really appreciate how it was built and how solid it felt. Even with its disadvantages regarding stowage, I’d still be as happy with it as a glock.

i love the 1911 and i own several of them but i highly doubt it fired 6k rounds without a malfunction.

Still have my 1979 Star BM 9mm Par. Only regeet is not buying the alloy product - the steel is uncomfortuble heavy but still my baby. Could also never understand why so many pistols looked the same....but when I learned about the 1911 the sun did rise. Remains a beautiful pistol regardsless of todays products.

A machine that is under-engineered overly durable is a great machine. Browning is up there with the best when it comes to such firearms. And Kalishnakov as well I guess (I think I read he was inspired by Browning and had illicitly obtained a Browning gun when he was a kid?)
