The Hangover.. the Game not the Movie for the Milwaukee Brewers!!
Contreras in 2026 should be moved to 1st base. He would be a future there with a new contract. Brewer fans can dream some.
I recall a game where CC Sabathia pitched a complete shutout, may have been a ten inning game, and hit a solo home run to win 1-0.
That was Gallardo.
@@locustjohn3865 I recall that about Gallardo now that you mention it, but I'm sure Sabathia also did what I said as well... After further review, scouring the net, I contest that I am wrong. lol
@@andyevenson6915 Sabathia hit one home run for Milwaukee. It came in the second inning of a 3-2 win. He did pitch a complete game.
@@locustjohn3865 Yep, I had to look up CC's homers and you are correct. Thanks.
Cooper trade was big.
BA top 10 out...
Hey Chuck, no mention of the Sexton Six-Pack??
Alex Bohm seems to be the most logical target. Phillies have interest in DW. Brewers get proven offensive production at 3B, affordable for two years. Gives time for Wilken to sink or swim in development. A+ reliever for a solid, everyday bat at a position of need.
Trevor bauer
Chemistry ?
Great guest, great discussion.
Like idea of trading for Brandon Lowe. He has club options for 10.5 mil 2024 and 11.5 mil 2025. Put Turang at SS.
With all due respect to Chuck Freimund (whom I have listened to and enjoyed his analysis for years), if we are going to ask whether or not the Brewers ownership will spend a little more money, the answer is PROBABLY NOT. Just based on the last few years of the front office behavior, the Brewers ownership is not running the team to try and win a World Series, they are running the team in order to keep the books in the black. Nobody is expecting the Brewers to have a $300 million payroll, but they at least need to keep their payroll around the MLB average, perhaps $10-20 million above the average. I tip my hat to the organization for getting the most out of its players and making them a very fun team to watch in the regular season. That being said, I don’t believe that the current economic model in MLB allows the Brewers to go very far in the postseason. Although disappointing, it is certainly no surprise when we see them play themselves to an early first round exit. The postseason is where the teams with the $300 million payrolls “earn their money” (and I’m using that phrase loosely). Until MLB significantly changes its economic model (like a hard salary cap, a salary floor, and increased shared revenue), I can’t see the Brewers going much beyond the NLDS in a good year for them.
Brett Baty (NYM) - 5 years of team control. Bats left-handed, which would mean 5 lefties in the regular lineup. Josh Jung (TEX) - 4 years of team control. Injury concern. Broken wrist that was supposed to keep him out 6 weeks, turned into almost four months, and he needed a second surgery after the season. Alex Bohm (PHI) - 2 years of team control. Projected $8.1 MM salary. Bo Bichette (TOR) - last year before free agency. $16.5 MM salary. Would keep Ortiz at third for another year. Eugenio Suarez (ARI) - last year before free agency. $15 MM salary. Ryan McMahon (COL) - signed for 3 years ($12/16/16 MM). Bats left-handed (see Baty). Probably the only one on the list that is on a team that wouldn't really be interested in Williams, so it would take prospects/young players (a way to relieve the left-handed logjam in the outfielder?). Gold glove candidate at third. These seem to be the most prominent names as possible trade targets to replace Adames.
Walker 1B Rhys DH, Frellick to UTIL/3rd, How about Ortiz to SS, Tuang 2nd, Mitchell/Jackson/Yelich/Frelich/Perkins OF. I could see a early promoting for Pratt, Boeve, or Quero.
Have to let Yelich be the everyday DH now. His injury proneness absolutely must be in consideration.
He didn’t say anything about us getting/wanting Kimbrell. His point was Kimbrell didn’t work out for Baltimore so perhaps they’d be interested in Williams. Your misguided interruption really killed the flow of the conversation, Chuck.
Why not try the Frelick 3B experiment again? That'll fill the 3b position and it will allow Mitchell, Chourio, and Yelich to play the outfield with Perkins backing them up. Trade Williams for a solid starting pitcher. Also, haven't heard much about Gasser. I liked what I saw from him. Curious what they have planned for him when he returns.
Have Owner Mark A. Hitters the power ball then we can sign Japanese pitcher
Go with the young guys and dont get locked into long term deals for any sort of FA or soon to be FA except Contreas. The Brewers need to see how the money situation is the next two seasons without traditional TV revenue. Bad financial contacts could decimate the team, there is that little wiggle room for error contractually. This team is not a world series contender with the loaded Dodgers, and rich Phillies. The Rich Mets with a competent David Stearns are ahead of the Brewers just on financials. Any trades should be done to get controllable assets through the 2027 season, and getting max return before a players contract has run down.
Trade Williams for Bohm and a pitcher from AAA
Bohm does not make the Brewers better, and it makes the Phillies who are already better than the Brewers even better. Can't make that trade.
@DavidBrielmaier maybe not but a starter from their AAA would sure help
I'd take that trade, even without the AAA pitcher.
Trade for Suarez and Brandon lowe and watch us soar
Could the brewers sign Haase and try him at 3rd. He has the bat.
I think that the Brewers should let Adames walk. While the fans love him, he’s not the greatest defender and he underperformed in October
6 years 126 or 7 at 150. That be a fair discount. But he have to move to 3rd.
My Mets podcasts are chewing over adding Adames. The feedback is mixed. It seems like guys like me who want to retain Pete Alonzo and bring up 1-3 guys from our AAA want to pass on Adams's despite his obvious talent. Those who want Alonzo gone want Adames and for the Mets to shuffle the infield and put Vientos on first. I think Alonzo staying or going is the key.
Trade em...
They dumped Colin Rea, probably Freddy Montas, too. They saw just how quickly a pitching staff can be torched with injuries. Now I have heard they may trade Devin Williams too? The Milwaukee Brewers are basically a Minor League team for the Bigger teams who have owners with some ⚽️⚾️🥎🏀🏐🏈🏉BALLS⚽️⚾️🥎🏀🏐🏈🏉. NOT this CHEAP PUTZ the Brewers have. Small Market. Boo hoo! I'm SICK AND TIRED OF THIS EXCUSE!
Kinda click bait 😂 I thought they might have signed Willey a one year contract. I don't know if Deven Williams is the best closer in baseball? He definitely showed some cracks last year and they showed that they have the back end to do it without him .
Montas declined his mutual option. He is a FA.
They 100% SHOULD be trading Williams. His value is high right now, and they are never going to be giving him a large, multi-year deal. He's been a phenomenal regular season closer, but in reality, he's only pitched 3 post-season innings and has given up 6 runs. He also punched a wall to break his hand and miss another post-season when we really needed him. Move on. Megill will do just fine in that role.
Bring Miley back if he can still pitch and good locker room guy
7 innings, $7 million last year. I don’t think so. We have other coaches for a lot less.
Civale pitched great down the stretch was almost unbeatable at home. Should’ve started ahead of Montas in playoffs. I’d keep him.
Civale pitched great down the stretch was almost unbeatable at home. Should’ve started ahead of Montas in playoffs. I’d keep him.
I would kick the tires on Trevor Baurer. Montas at 12 million a year for 2 years that would be decent. See what dollar amount on Nathan Evoldi would be interesting. Shane Bieber since we are a rehab rotation with Woodruff and Gasser in the summer. I could see attempting to trade Myers to sell high on him. If you can get a SP or SP's (Prospect level) for Williams you have to do it. Perhaps Spencer Turnbull (FA) José Urquidy just became a FA but I don't think the Brewers have that kind of money now. Obvisously prospects like Misiorowski and Henderson. DL Hall has to be an option again. Civali is there as a 4 or 5.
Misiorowski should be ready next year top pitching prospect
Hope we get Gasser by June
Woodruff is are Ace if healthy
We cant expect him to be an Ace right after his surgery. He might not even be in the Majors until later in the spring due to limited innings. The same with Gasser. Misiorowski may only be a reliever/late inning reliever due to stuff to start out for the first year or so. Peralta is a number 3 at best. Tobias Myers is a 1 pitch journeyman pitcher, we cant expect to catch lighting in the bottle again. The Brewers have major question marks in the rotation.
Hopefully, the Brewers will not trade Devin to the Phillies in a deal involving Alec Bohm to fill their projected need for a three sacker as a result of Willy taking the long term money elsewhere. Though an All Star game participant , he disappeared in the second half of the season. And per Philly fans, he’s a head case diva. Don’t do it.
Yeah, I agree with you Chuck about letting Rea go. Paying him $1 million to go away instead of paying him $5 million to come back seems like pinching pennies.
I want to listen to the podcast, but I simply cannot stand how you smack your lips constantly! And whatever other audible noises, aside from words, that seem to come out of your mouth. Again, I would like to listen to it, and probably wouldn’t hear some of that stuff if I wasn’t using earbuds, but you gotta do something about that! Please!
I'm never great at predicting salaries, but I'd love to see us go after Eovaldi. Backup catcher will be found somewhere, but that singular hole in the infield is still glaring. Can't even be sure where it is, but there's only one priority here.
Chuck, no mention of Blake Perkins’ consideration for a Golden Glove?
Part time player
Back up player. No complaint with who won. Perkins is an elite defender however. Would be nice if he dumped the switch batter nonsense and concentrated from one side.
The Cubs will pick up Rea and he will be effective v the Brewers.
I was watching Colin Cowherd. He was raving about Dave Roberts being a genius "managing his assets". Really, I could puke. Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Teoscar, Muncy, Will Smith, Yamamoto, Flaherty etc etc. 29 other managers would give their right hand for 1/2 the assets Roberts has to "manage"
Great breakdown sad to lose Willy Adames
Hudson can throw heat as well.
What about Yoho?
Hoskins picking up his option. Had to have something to do Rea contract. 5 million saved.
Hoskins coming back and losing 35+ million in tv deal did.
Chuck, you make sense, however it frustrates people.
Think Rea is a strong 4 or 5. He really learned how to pitch. He usually kept us in the game. 5 million for a well rounded starter. He going to be a 10 to 13 game winner for someone else.
Top ten in home runs allowed and near the bottom in K/9.
Rea's ERA last month was about 8. Brewers are afraid the league has caught up to him
I think letting Rea go was not a smart move. You can never have too much pitching, and he worked so well with the Brewers system
Agreed. I hate to see people get crapped on.
He’s 35 and probably will only get 3 million in arbitration so a savings of 1.5 million
@@rthilson yeah, but somebody else will pick him up for the 5 million a year. He's definitely worth that
@@Jordblitz He cleared waivers, and had the option declined.
@@ReddVencher does that mean he is still with the Crew? Or nobody has him?
Can’t keep the expensive guys. Small market teams have to grow them in the farm system
With no tv deal hope Brewers don't become the new A's
At Catcher Brewers might wait to Spring training to see if Quero can make time if back from injury
True. Let him and Haase duel it out for number 2.
Great to see Frelick and Turang earned a Gold Glove this season...Rea had a tough September this season, 9ish ERA. Sad to see him go, he was a consistent workhorse for the Brewers last couple seasons...Thanks for the update Chuck.
Paul de Jong at SS for $6 mil a year, 2 year deal
