Conan The Barbarian (1982) Audio Commentary
Wow, I would never think a couple limp wristed, gender confused, "I'm with her" socialists could make Dirty Harry boring, but damn, they can.
Uh, hey again! So, I noticed that whenever I tried leaving a reply, the comment didn't upload, or at least that's what I saw on my phone. I hope you are not seeing like 4 comments from me saying the same thing. That would be embarrassing! Anyway, I tried to say that I replied to you the last time, leaving my letterboxd username, but I think that comment was never uploaded. I'm writing from my PC this time, and leaving a new comment instead of replying to the thread, maybe that'll help. I'm writing because I started following you that day, so your reviews pop up whenever I watch a film. You seem to have watched them all, lol. So, today I watched Furiosa and I just really liked your review. You seem to pick up on a lot of stuff that I miss completely, like Furiosa being trans-coded. My letterboxd username is Solidlauti, just like in youtube. I'd love to reply to some of your reviews from time to time! Sorry again for bothering you in your Heat (1995) Audio Commentary comments!
I just wanna let u know one thing i really liked your Alien Romulus review cause those were the same problems that i actually felt while watching that movie in theatres today. It felt like a copy and paste of the entire "alien 1979" plot but with bad jumpscares with loud annoying noises for cheap scares and generic sound scores
uwe boll would win the director fight, he'd beat the others the way he beat up lowtax
Is Rebel Moon the greatest movie of all time?
I hate people who say "Dude." It's so unbelievably instantly disinteresting. I never want to get to know people who talk like that.
Hey I just read your letterboxd review of deadpool and wolverine and it really left a bitter taste in my mouth, even though I haven't really watched it yet, and I'm not sure I even plan to. It felt like you were scoffing at people who enjoy it calling them manchildren, overgrown fanboys, telling them to get "more mature hobbies" etc. Maybe that wasn't your point, but it felt cynical, bitter, and pretentious. Sorry, I know you don't have comments allowed in your review for a reason but my autism wouldn't let me sleep if I didn't say something about it. Autistic sense of justice, in a way. Sorry again.
after 25 years of these movies, i am cynical about them, i am bitter about them. if i'm pretentious, well, why not, i'll be that to. the movie's going to make over a billion dollars, so my review clearly isn't getting in the way of people enjoying it. after 25 years of superhero cultural dominance, i think a serious critique of those films is necessary, and sometimes that requires being mean, both to the producers of that product and the consumers of it. if that makes me an asshole, i understand. but i don't want to be dishonest about what the film made me think about and feel, and the film did make me feel bitter and cynical, which i otherwise try not to be. i'm sorry if the review upset you, but i wrote it more out of an exhaustion with this being a dominant cultural trend for almost my entire life, and i think that the film is successful enough financially and critically to survive my meager opinion. you don't have to be sorry at all, though, i'm glad you yourself were honest in saying what you felt; i hope you're doing well and have an excellent rest of the year.
@@comradeyui9323 Thanks for your thorough reply! I get what you mean and where you are coming from. I myself am pretty tired of marvel movies, actually. I didn't really have a problem with your opinion on the movie itself, and as you said, noone in Marvel or Disney is going to go hungry because of it! It's just that one of my pet peeves is when people berate others for enjoying "childish" stuff as if there was something inherently wrong or harmful about that, you know? I guess as I was reading your review it started feeling less like a critique of the movie itself, and more like an attack towards the people that enjoyed it. I said sorry because I was upset from interactions I had had during the day that don't have anything to do with you and I ended up having to vent on your youtube channel lmao. It didn't seem right to go the extra mile just to tell you what I thought of your opinion on a movie I haven't even watched, so I felt like apologizing haha. I really liked the part where you compare collector items being encased in little tombs or something like that. Sorry I can't remember the actual words you used but it was a great analogy!
@@Solidlauti normally i don't act like that either, i don't like the reference to infantilism because there can be good superhero movies (like the crow or the shadow or batman returns), but i think why i resorted to it in this case is that the film is so full of inside-baseball knowledge on unmade x-men films and all this ephemera that it made me reflect on my own passion for these films circa 2015-2018, and how it felt like deadpool & wolverine was designed to appease a more immature version of myself (although it's not like i'm perfect now or anything). to answer your question earlier, i had to disable comments because i was getting harassed by dozens of people every time a review of mine would get mildly popular, and at some point i just got sick of it and made it so only mutuals can comment. if you want, i can follow you back so you can comment regularly as before, just post your LB here and i'll add you.
@@comradeyui9323 when you put it in terms of numbers, and the fact that it's been dominant for most of my life too, that just broke something in me 😭 i was practically raised on these movies when that just needn't have been the case if not for unbounded corporate greed. ah well there's still a lot of life left
One of my favorite films and a great commentary 👍 here’s to your channel getting the recognition it deserves!

My personal favorite Michael Mann motion picture.
Kinda random, but what would you think of a new color grade of Miami Vice with modern techniques. I was watching it on vivid setting with my TV and it’s bringing a lot of colors and contrast that I desperately want from the movie. Would be easy to denoise a lot of scenes and give it a nice touch up. I’m guessing you’re on the side of it’s look being part of the charm from your reviews of it and Collateral.
The boat race looked particularly awesome in vivid. Clean, not a lot of noise. Actually bright since it’s shot in the day.
i enjoy the noisy look of the film, but i would not be opposed to an optional alternate color grading of the film! i think there are many movies from the 2010s (like the raid) which could benefit massively from a less washed out grading to make them not look so blue/greyscale
@@comradeyui9323 When I saw that deep black underwater shot at the beginning for the first time, it was such an awesome use of the cameras limitations with the shadows and highlights. One thing I like about Mann’s digital stuff is he doesn’t try to work around them like Fincher did with Benjamin Button, he really goes for it. Fincher’s movie looks great, but it just feels like every digital camera that would come out afterwards. Have you checked out End of Watch? They used a si-2k nano. A bit cleaner, but sort of has that digital grungy look I wish more movies used. Might be up your alley if you liked Miami Vice.
the resident got pretty evil on this one
Do a video on bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia plzzzzzzzzzzz
