Dimarzio Tone Zone S - A few sound examples from this Fender Stratocaster bridge pickup
#guitar #stratocaster #guitarist
So I just dropped the Tone Zone S in my parts-caster. I wanted something more rounded and less shrill than the typical strat bridge pickup.
This sounds great, it's warm, rounded and cuts through really well in the mix. It's also hum cancelling so dead quiet.
I had the full-size version in a Jackson Adrian Smith SQX I owned a couple of years ago and loved it. This smaller single version does keep a lot of the characteristics of it's larger sibling. So I'm really happy.

i love these guitars the only issue i ahd is the out of phase bit. I swapped pick ups out for pure vintage 51 but after opening it up i could see you could reconnect at the pick up but i went with the 51s and they sounf great. Are you having any issues with the b string buzzing on the bridge?
nice
i love these the only thing i didnt like was the out of phase pick ups when the switch is in the middle
Yeh, I tend to agree. I couldn't really find a good use for it.
@ I’m a sparky by trade so I swapped the pick ups out for pure vintage 51s and I really love them. But after taking them out I could see how you could rectify the out of phase so another lesson learnt . I just couldn’t see a use for that middle position
Exactly the video I was searching! I have the same guitar and the same problem.. was thinking about installing a Antiquity on the neck for jazzier sounds, and this 36th on bridge for heavier blues Allman bos style. Thanks!!
@@erikvonbehr No problem. Glad to help!
Kick ass tone. Love it!
Love mine - epic neck on these and the fit and finish on my example was nearly perfect! Nice playing!
Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for
The Silver Sky is the guitar I've been searching for since I was a kid reading guitar magazines in the 90's. No other guitar has ever inspired me quite so. I got a white one with a maple board this past spring. Great playing!
@@MichaelBassVideos Thanks man! Yeh I agree. Very similar story to be honest. I've probably owned over 100 guitars in my life, including a 1982 Japanese JV Fender Squier which are very coveted for that vintage Fender feel. This is a better guitar, in almost every way. The fact that some people can't get over the birds or headstock (superficial details) is sad, because they're absolutely missing out. I bought a PRS DGT SE last year, and the quality and feel of that is just phenomenal, I sold my 2010 Les Paul Standard. I genuinely believe that PRS make the best guitars on the market now. They feel like you say, inspiring to play. Like they are targeted at musicians. Rather than collectors.
Great guitar.
Killer guitar. I love Reverends
Great tunes and well played!
Bizarrely i never realised what a great solo Hey Joe was until your version. I guess the scratchy 60s recording with an excess of treble made it a bit abrasive on the ears. Shame you dont own the SC 450 upgraded with the Blues Engines pups anymore for the Les Paul solos. I have the SC550 custom with the EMG 70 Retro pups - which is the flagship SC model; but I would have have swapped it with yours in a heartbeat. Then would just need to learn to play like you, which might be somewhat more of a mountain to climb 😊
I appreciate your kind words. Guitar is a lifelong journey, and one which I will definitely continue on.
Sounds great bro
@@jerryjingjo thanks man
Excelente!!!!
I have had one of these for almost 20 years, fantastic and versatile. Made in England, basically a JCM 800 in a small box. Benefits hugely from a speaker upgrade, mine has a Celestion Gt10 Vintage and it kills clean and dirty and sounds fantastic with pedals. Would never get rid of it. A real gem!
Hi, Are you happy with the guitar?
Hi. Yeh it's a great allrounder, nice weight and the P90's are pretty spectacular to be honest. I did round the fretboard a darken in a bit with some relic wax myself. But that's just a personal thing I have a little playthrough video on my channel if you want to check it out ruclips.net/video/VQsdGHE7qZs/видео.htmlsi=XPq8Qc95umpNfbjD
Very nice.!!!
Do you write any of your own songs?
Yes I'm always writing and recording. Check the video description for some links. Thanks
I have 2 laney lc15 r amps. The earliest one had an HH speaker and I swapped that out for a 10inch Greenback and the amp us brilliant. I also picked up a newer version of the amp too which has a celestion speaker stock snd is also great.. i played this in a theatre and micd and is loud enough to get over a drummer. I use the amp just before breakup and for distortion i use an sd1... these are great smps and loud as fxxck
cool dude
Great tone!!! Keep it up man
I bought a new CA made Guild D-20 in 2017, and it has become my favoriteacoustic guitar. It feels and sounds just right.
Yes, this is a 2017 model. I'm enjoying it so much. It's easily the nicest acoustic I've ever owned. I seem to get an idea every time I play it!
Lovely
The tones in your opening are epic! 🤗 What effects and amp are you using?
Thanks man! So I'm using the Neural DSP Archetype: Rabea for the song, then for the sound examples I have a Laney LC15r mic'd up with a Shure Beta 57a
Hey, I'm thinking of throwing in the PAF 36th neck in a 335 with a Bigsby. How do you like the neck pickup? Pros, cons? Thanks!
It's lovely and warm. Honestly I can't recommend these pickups highly enough. Really articulate, great with distortion. They'd suit jazz, blues or rock nicely.
Thank-you. Too few demos of LP type guitar lead lines have any taste or soul. Tonality is even more crucial on single cut guitars if you want to play with emotion. Not enough people make a Les Paul sing like a strat, defaulting to the thick, dark, woody, and abrasive tone that is typical today. Can I ask what Bias FX settings you used and also what the 50s wiring and tone caps bring to the table?
Thanks man, I really appreciate those kind words. I don't have the guitar anymore. But I found that the wiring kit definitely added some warmth along with the Blues Engine Pickups, which I can't recommend highly enough if you ever want to check those out. In terms of the Bias FX settings. I always just use the default 'American Dream' setting as my base. And then just tweak it a bit depending on what guitar I'm using. Adding a different drive pedal to the chain etc. I really like the Overdrive Pro pedal with the boost option. Hope that's informative :)
@@TheGuitarDudeSteve Excellent, yes that is what I needed thanks. So 50s wiring and orange capacitors give an alnico ii flavour, or is it more subtle than that? Yes I have been an Iron Edge consumer for a couple of years, but that was the nicest combination with a single cut I have heard. It was like a return to the mid 70s which was the high point of Les Paul tones and they have been diminishing ever since. Can I ask why you gave up the guitar after bringing it to its peak?
@@donw.k.6877 Yes there is definitely a difference, but it is subtle. I feel charging the pickups is what makes the most difference. I just like to work on different guitar projects and love them for a while. Then I move them on and allow someone else to hopefully do the same. I recently built a strat from parts.
@@TheGuitarDudeSteve I listened to a before and after demo for the 50a wiring with orange capacitors anf my ears were not refined enough to hear much of a difference, so juat the pups for me. Thanks for the information.
Damn, didn't notice you were playing with your fingers until now. Oh well, knew it was too good to be true as I'm not going to be able to emulate that. Still I'm sure the pup upgrade will be a definite improvement.
Brilliant!
Thanks man. If you want to check out any more. The link to the album is in the video description 😊
I appreciate you demonstrating these within a mix.
No problem. I try and make useful videos 😉

Great choice Steve, awesome guitar solos. Well done bro !!! Bert
Thanks man 🙏
Wow thanks this is exactly what I want to try, SC550 + Blues Engine, maybe JB clone for the bridge, I have the SDs in my LTD Les Paul and the sound is amazing. If they're good all Blues Engine in my Epiphone Korina V, it came with awful Epi PAFs that ruin the guitar but I've been to broke to put in Gibson 57s.
Glad you found the video helpful 🙂
A bit too much reverb. It tends to water down the notes
Awesome guitar solo Steve!
Thanks man 😊
My Black one arrived this week. These guitars really are incredible. It adds another perspective to this video too. Great playing!
Great! I hope you really enjoy it. I'll never sell mine. It's almost the one strat to rule them all 😉 So versatile.
Mine is also 'Never for sale' at this current time. They really are fantastic. I paid £1400 and took a bit if a gamble as it was an online listing, but they almost NEVER come up!
don't be scared of the amp son it won't bite you damn use to have one of these aor 112 30w back in 85 it was a fk beast solid tone as good as any thing just takes a little patience to find it's sweet spots. it really cuts through put on a solid chair to the side of you and let the band blast away and bring up the gain it'll sit in the sound like a governer just tweek it a little you can get most any tone out of it its super rock solid. P.S. turn off the spring verb as it wrecks the tone or use just a small sprinkle.. that fane speaker takes a little time to really open up
RIP Mike, miss you 💔 This is an ugly country🥀☮️✡️
Sounds great, good job !
Thanks man. Appreciate that!
I never played on a Laney amp (I'm a kinda Marshall guy) but this sounds great Steve! Bert
Yeh they're super amps man. They go for next to nothing used. So worth checking out 😉
Laney amps great for metal/hard rock!
I find myself coming back to this guitar again and again, it really has something peculiarly unique to it. Glad you did this vid as for years I'd wondered if mine was odd in how quiet (only by perception really) the coil tap settings were...yours does the same. I find them so useful!
No problem man. Glad you found it useful. Yeh I noticed very few videos around this guitar. And it took me years to hunt one down myself. I believe it was only in production for a couple of years. I think Billy fell out with Fender at some point and switched to Reverend. I absolutely agree with what you said. I think you can get so many different sounds from it. Super useful when playing live.
Is the LC15R too loud for office/bedroom use?
It would be fine. It can get very loud, enough for pub gigs. But if you keep it on 1 - 2 it's fine.
They sound really good, I will order the over-wound version for my Squier Affinity. Nice playing too. Do you tried this version? Thanks for share
Thanks 😊 Great choice! They'll certainly make a big difference to the Affinity. I've not tried the overwound version, but they sound great in other videos. Maybe also think about upgrading the pots, switch & jack too. That guitar will be great for years then.
@@TheGuitarDudeSteve That is on my list, thanks
