40 Year Old Project. Suspension Update.
Thus is my Dad's 37 Pontiac Street Rod that he built in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is a true survivor and has traveled many miles across the country in the past 40 years. It's time for an update. It needs front suspension overhaul with new control arm bushings, ball joints, shocks etc. In this video I rebuild the front end and tell the stories behind this car. Follow along as we keep this car on the road for the next 40 years. Will it "run and drive"? Of course it will. It always has LOL.

As a painter and a owner of a 63 k10…I’ve sprayed my truck 3 times to make the hood match the truck perfectly. Never will I paint my hood separately. Like your style bro, especially your front suspension/steering setup.
Thanks for the comments. When I do paint the hood, I will blend it down onto the fenders as well to hide the difference. Although some have told me I should leave it primer. Adds to the look of the truck.
Was this causing vibration at higheay speeds?? I inspected mine, and i was able to move the axle side to side exposing the splines... it shouldnt be able to move that much right? My truck is vibrating at highway speeds at random, more so i notice if i tend to turn the steering wheel going around a bend or curve.. ive replaced my tie rods thinking it was this. But still having issues please if you can get back to me id appreciate it
There will be some axial movement on the splines but hard to say how much is too much. Vibration is one issue I had. Chased tire balance for a while, but replacing the shaft did help that quite a bit.
great video! nice family heirloom. I couldn't believe only 7 likes and no comments. keep up the good work. congrats on the new grand son!
Thank you!!
Thank you sir for posting this video. ❤
How did you get the cv axle off the stub to begin with?
Hammer
@ hammer didn’t work. Ended up using a cutoff wheel
Decent video on the work…I give it a 3 out of 5 just because you didn’t post a link for one part that was needed.
multen metal tends to come off pretty quickly..
I usually replace the manifolds on my ford...They warp Usually and snap the studs....I use stainless replacement studs as well. Good job.!!
I had it installed to the inner part of the bag. A much cleaner/safer line positioning
Are you able to regear these front axles ? Many say you can not but yukon says they have a kit

The jeep running made it seem like the jeep winch was more efficient.
Would this make a shake in the steering wheel or in the front seats. I ask since I’m chasing a shake in the truck that I feel in the front seats. Dealership changed the rear shocks and the drive shaft and it didn’t fix the issue.
If you see the crossmember right behind the right side axle is discolored Then more than likely this is the reason why. I've been chasing a similar issue for a while then finally discovered it
Good video - all worked for me, didn't need the little resistor (yet). Nice tips on getting the connector out and the new leads installed. Thanks!
Thanks for the video, very helpful. 👍👍
Excellent job i like it
Do yourself a favour and spend the extra money to get all of the parts. I did notice he used an impact on the nut for the axle. You need to torque it to spec to prevent premature bearing wear. That’s the most common cause of bearing failure. Good video tho. 👍
Great video great showing of parts detail .I've seen couple of these and man do we have some butcher's cutting these parts up 🙏
Another bullshit video that doesnt tell you that the front seat bolts are as simple as that lmao
Great video. Thanks for sharing gonna attack this asap 😊
Warning: if you have an ecodiesel, the 4 bolts have 1 impossible one at the top.
What kits can I reference off of?
i replace the starter but i heard sounds like clik clik clik
Anyone know where I can get the intermediate shaft. With the seal on it??
The tire noise could be caused by improper Ackerman angle due to the wheelbase change. The point of intersection from the center of the ball joint through the center of the tie rod end should be halfway between the two axles.
dont need reprogram anything ?
Open the top of the reservoir when trying to spread open up the caliper. makes life easier. The thumb is nothing compared when you stub your toes wearing those sandals on the bike.
Thank You!!
My jackpot doesn’t have a 8mm bolt to unscrew I only see a corer pin thingy
thank you for this video, i need to do this soon.
Taking this out on an EcoDiesel is s literal bitch. One of the 4 bolts mounting the assembly yo the differential housing is practically inaccessible. 12 mm gear wrench and a prayer to get it out
Could someone link the product for me? I am unsure which of the bypass sensors is the correct one.
What the part on Amazon
Question for you, what is your gear ratio? My truck is a 3.92,looking on rockauto the right side shaft is listed only for 3.55 and the dealer says the right side is apparently not serviceable and there is no part number for the right side intermediate shaft
It was poorly designed for engineers, Chevy, have 6 bolts connected all for life durability,
Anyway you still have the ebay link?
I have a polaris slingshot but wont star
93BB code?
I just saw you looked up a 2008 Pontiac solstice thank you 🙏
Where do I get a starter
As for the problems people are having removing the front axle shafts to the stub shafts and stubs to the diff being stuck you do know at the end of each stub shaft is a c clip that holds the etub shaft to the cv and diff your best bet is to remove the diff cover so you can compress the c clips and the shaft will come out pretty easy when your pounding the crap out of the cv shaft that wont come out your working against the c clips .
i cant believe i had to watch you sweep the floor. gorgeous truck!!!!!
CAN U ADD THE LINK WERW YOU GOT THE PARTS WILL THIS WOEK ON A 2012
Hi, do you have the link to buy the part?
Try the ARB quick recovery twin 5 cfm, pumps to 150 psi when it drops to 100. The recovery rate is 30 seconds. I’m running six bags off it.
The ARB is definitely a nice unit!
At 5:15 and 7:10, you can clamp your ground wire to the vise if you can't find a better location. Once the vise jaws grip through the paint or rust, it is electrically the same connection at that point.
At 17:14, thanks for making this video ... I'm in Atlanta so it is not completely impossible that we won't run into each other sometime. You can delete all of my crap comments if you want!
Lol. Comments are appreciated!
At 14:20, have you calculated your belt/pulley drive ratio? At 16:45, You are probably spinning the York faster than you think.
Exactly. I have not bothered to see what the ratio is because the speed will change anyway with engine rpm.
at 0:25, if oil is coming out, are you putting more back into your compressor? It will run out of oil as well. If it is coming out into your air, it must be coming from the compressor sump. It will also become contaminated with moisture and dirt from the air it is compressing, and it will also need to be changed as well. Have you considered these eventualities?
At 10:15, that reversed transfer case is something special! I have never seen that before. Maybe I just haven't been around enough?
