Let me use an example: the line "目に映るものが全て歪み始めてた" would literally translate to "everything in front of my eyes started to become distorted", but in the context of the song I found it more fitting, or that it made more sense for an English speaker, to translate it as "nothing seems to make sense anymore". For me, translating is more about the feeling and the idea that is trying to be expressed and finding a way to convey that same emotion in another language, not word by word. Of course, I'm not trying to say that my translations are perfect, far from it. I'd say it's more my interpretation of that song in another language, trying to capture and maintain the same emotion it was trying to showcase in its original language. I hope my response helped!
