Dodge Charger V6 Single to Dual Exhaust
My neighbor started up her equinox and it sounded like the chain grenaded itself. She then tried to start it again the next day but had zero compression from the sound of it. I went over to her door as she was cranking and said: “yeah that sound yesterday was the whole timing chain and parts of the guide, you need a tow truck”. Tow truck is there now 😂
Thanks for the video. I have a 2015 GMC that I’m about to do the same thing too. Much appreciated.
All ready in that deep should have changed them all
Good video, info..thank you for posting your way of wrenching on these Ls type motors, i like to watch/compare and take mental notes of all your tips, but also hav to make up my own assumption and when i tackle mine in the future, i will hav lots of good advice from Utubers like you, thank you what name brand torque wrench ? Did u use
It’s not even pumping oil that’s why it’s stuck in the first place
Good video
How many miles on this engine? It was super clean inside. Obviously, the lifter did not fail because of poor maintenance.
It is supposed to be 1st torque to 20 lbs then 180 degrees then 170 degrees . So being it's a 15 model maybe it has changed
The lifter is not colaspe as if the spring had broke or even weakend. No the inner valve is stuck . Most likely the front half of the VLOM are lose
I wish my lifter was stuck, but alas, it was the lifter guide that failed 😣
Oh look! Another engine failure, but eveybody still wants a swap!
If we delete the afm, auto start/stop, VVT, brake vacuum pump, and convert the suspension to normal shocks, it’ll be solid!! Hahahaha the good 5.3s and 6.0s are either too old or too ugly. Get a nice new body at a reduced price because of the failure and do the mods and you should be set for 300k miles with proper maintenance!
Toki, it’s Dominic from birchwood ford. How are you? Still in Winnipeg?
You're a very brave soul welding on a uni body vehicle with the interior still in place.
American trash vehicles
How accurate does the tightening have to be? Is that entire process of 59.0 lbs, 90° and 60° necessary?
Wondering the same
yes it is, if you don't want to be redoing it or blowing a head gasket. remember not to use the same head bolts and blow out your holes. Don't let the degrees scare you. if you don't have a t-wrench that has degrees, your local auto parts store should have a attachment for under 30 dollars.
Happen to have a part number for the flex pipe?
Should anyone best interested, I have a number of solutions to all the timing chain issues on the GM Ecotec 2.4L VVT 4-cylinder engines which will prevent them from reoccuring and make a stronger fail-safe assembly all round.
?
Great video. Im subscribing to your channel. Where do you get the torque specs for this car? I have seen some blogs where they recommend 27 lbs and then 90 and sixty. Thanks
Hi sir, I just wanna ask what is the torque of your impact wrench. Thank you and pls reply
Tough its mentioned - If you did not keep track of bolts, the bottom two of the cover are the shielded bolts
Since you had the heads off you should of just delete the afm
I would've liked to have heard the engine run with no extra noise. My 6.2 suburban is in Chevy in yonkers now lifters and they told me that have to replace the whole engine. Luckily I saw videos like these and I heard the metallic tapping the first start up in the morning and I went to them to check it. First day in there they said they heard no noise at first start. I said that's weird I hear it and phone recorded it and its every morning. Then next day they heard it. It took them 2 1/2 weeks to get a gm inspector to verify the issue now they said I am getting a new engine. Luckily it was 4 months before powertrain warranty expires 5 years 60,000. It would have cost me 15 gs to do myself.
By far the best one for this, shame the video ended before testing it and putting it together, but said everything and torque specs too. Spot on
Do you have to remove the lower right timing cover with the oil drained out of the pan or could you do it with the oil still in the pan?
So I assume it is safe procedure to only do one side of the engine it that is all that is needed?
might as well do them both in pairs. why wanna tear all that work again if the other side fails a year later
nice video, Thanks
Where are u located
What did you do about metal shavings
It’s actually 85 ft lbs on the VTC actuator sprocket bolt. INTAKE SIDE. Not 54 ft lbs It’s 54 ft lbs on the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt. EXHAUST SIDE
stock muffler?
Usually a new VTC actuator spring does the trick to stop the rattle
How long would you say it took your first time ?
Easy to gauge aluminum heads with a metal blade if not careful. Use gasket cleaner and a plastic blade(they sell plastic razor blades) if you have not done this before and are comfortable using a razor nlade
Great job. It will be best if you changed the bolts
2 things: How was the camshaft? Bolts stretch. Does GM require that you replace all the head bolts to prevent breakage when reusing the same head bolts?
Always replace head bolts.
I've reused the OEM plenty of times with no issues, but reuse only once. ARP bolts don't get replaced.
Thank you for your video. I recently bought a new GMC Sierra truck two weeks ago, and it made a noise that led to a repair for a lifter issue. It has only driven 1400 km since, but I'm concerned it might break down again soon. What do you think?
Don’t worry too much. I have 185000 miles on my 2016 Sierra with the 5.3 and I have never had a problem. Number one thing with these engines is keeping up on your oil changes. I do every 5000 miles religiously since new and I never had a problem. Only thing I had replaced under warranty was a passenger side front wheel bearing and the A/C condenser. Otherwise it’s been a solid truck.
The technology is a menace to society there is no need for the bullshit to be such a pain in the ass it's made to cost a you a ton of money all fkn short lived expensive junk
Great job my respect . Thanks for sharing Bro.🎉
Hopefully you see this but I’m coming to see any videos make sure everything is good right but I went ahead and changed my head gaskets and resurfaced my heads. When it came down to torquing my head bolts I put a washer in the top bolts only and torqued it down to 59ft lbs then the 90’ but didn’t do the 60’ right after I didn’t know about that one. Opinion?
Nice weld
This engine is clearly not maintained very well. A well maintained engine wouldn’t have all that discoloration inside.
No, the 2.4 is just junk🤣 it eats timing chains
Best well explained video so far, thanks!!
Exelente. What tool you have for measure angle,?. Description please. Thank you. Saludos desde Veracruz Mex. 👍
How do you do the timing ?
Line up the dots to the marks on the new chain - its there
Plastic razor blades are made for this job
This is not on a 2019 Ford Transit
Buen peo cambiar taquetes,y si la leva está mal 😮, tremendo trabajo de mano de obra 😮
I don't have$500 in tools and I have done this fluid and filter change before. In my driveway. So yeah it can be done and gets done all the time.
I used to be a service writer at a small car lot and we had several GM lifter/DOD failures 😂
Change oil pressure valve body assembly,..
In the old days that would have meant that the camshaft was worn out but in today's crap. It's a technology failure. Just as big of a job as replacing the cam but the parts fit in a smaller box !!!
