    We just got an KMX 3axis retrofit in our shop and I am struggling to wrap my mind around the tool table. Why did you set the base of the vise and not the part? How would this differ if using just R8 collets? That is what we currently have but I am looking to get some R8 shank ER32's for more repeatable zeroing.

    • @aaronrunk4209
      @aaronrunk4209 2 дня назад

      @danielyochelson5204 that's really cool that you just got one of those retrofits. I usually set up tools off the 123 block because if I have multiple tools on one job and the second tool breaks for the first tool has already cut, then I can't reset that tool length. I believe if you want some repeatability with your R8 collets, you can put a set screw behi d the tool that won't interfere with the draw bar. that way, the tool can only go so far up into the collet it every time. that may help with your repeatability temporarily until you get the other collets. Thanks for watching

      Yes, you can because your starting point of entry does not change. The same goes for threading on a manual lathe. So I had this happen on my Doosan 220 lathe. However, it did reset the home locations correctly, and when I sent the machine home, it did everything correctly as well. I wasn't sure why it was doing this, but it did home correctly. some machines may have something in the ladder that reverts back to zero. I would check to see if it does go home to the correct locations and if it's just making it a zero instead of keeping it a one I would try running a simple program and then having it go to g28 home and g53 home and make sure that it goes to the right location both times. im really not so sure i agree with this, if you watch your tool its flexing while drilling after you offset that .030" so now when you drill it will be drilling off center. I'll have to do some more looking on this however when it comes to the teaching mode it sounds more like a mazak but if you are wanting to make sure that your work offsets are in the right locations you could go into MDI and send it to a known location to see if it has been set correctly. I will say your values are on the screen somewhere it's just kind of hard to find them on these older machines

    Couldn't you just have a regular PC or laptop plugged into the machine and have a better GUI through an app on the PC? This seems clunky, but I'm sure there are reasons why it's done this way. Maybe newer machines have a PC interface?

    • @aaronrunk4209
      @aaronrunk4209 Месяц назад

      Sorry for the late response, and yes, these machines have ethernet cables that can be plugged into computers and then certain software such as Predator DNC that can be used to drip feed or transfer programs directly into the machine. there's also ways of doing this via Bluetooth, which is becoming very popular.

Watching this video and following it helps the manufacturing industry because those learning will be safer when setting up parts. Speed comes with practice, and crashes are a result of being in too much of a hurry. Crashes cost money and time. The rule of thumb is to do it right, then do it fast. Thanks for watching

    • @aaronrunk4209
      @aaronrunk4209 2 месяца назад

      So when my machine jams up, it's because I command a tool change without a g0 for Rapid motion. which is kind of weird because it's only on this machine and on this model. what I normally do is I go into a manual mode, and I jog it manually one rotation to the next tool, and it fixes my problem on my machine. I can tell it's jammed because the button for Tool change is blinking because it's in between tools. I'm not sure if this will be the fix for you, but at least it's a start
