Camden Jackson
If you've been on an Iowa Gravel Series race in the last two years, it's likely you've seen Camden sporting his Ames Velo jersey near the front of the pack. Except for a broken clavicle, nothing much slows Camden down. So, it was exciting to see him come in 3rd at the Albia Holy Cow this year.
I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Camden at RAGBRAI and to chat with him at the races, but it was nice to get to know him a little better and learn how he fuels, what he's learned from his trainer, and that he struggles up 138th and Fulton in Pisgah just like everyone else.

Linda Cooper

It's the small and simple things that, in aggregate, bring about the big results. Linda Cooper has enjoyed riding her bike for a long time and that consistency over years has paid off. She's a regular on the group rides in and around Des Moines and that consistent effort to show up, week after week, might well be the key to her super powers. Linda took the top spot on the podium at the Waukon 1...

What would you say the chances are of making the podium on your first gravel race when you had just picked up your bike the day before? If you're Jason Smith, you know there is at least a chance, because he made it happen at the 2024 Albia Holy Cow. Jason is part of team OYRB and really new to cycling... like really new. He got a fat bike last year and has already added MTB, road, and gravel to...

We dip into training, nutrition, a little bit of the gear to get you started and what it's like t...
Jen Sheffield July 2024

Meeting new people was something I assumed would happen with the Iowa Gravel Series. Having people come back time and time again and getting to follow along with their journey was something I didn't think about too much, but it has been something I enjoy so much now. Jen Sheffield has been on the IGS podium a number of times. She's pushed through the challenges of getting started in the sport (...

Something that makes gravel events unique is the people that come from all over to attend. The Abia Holy Cow is pretty close to Des Moines, but folks from Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois and even from further away show up to ride the Monroe county roads. One of our 50km podium winners, Gwen Barrett made the trek with her husband to Albia and came away with a 3rd place finish! It was great getting ...

There's something special about the locations where we decide to ride and race. Location is absolutely a factor in developing our love, appreciation, and talents when it comes to fitness. Just ask anyone living in Colorado... they'll remind you of the altitude benefits. Charles Erickson grew up in Omaha, but had family in Silver City, so he knows these roads and when it came time to sign up for...

We have a new episode of the Podium Podcast coming your way. Charles Erickson took first at Silver City this year and we talk about stratedgy, how to be a nice guy and a competitive guy at the same time, what fuels him and some pet peeves. It's a great conversation, so be on the lookout for that episode to drop here in the next couple days!
Brady Hopwood

Lots of people started riding bikes and gravel in 2020; but fewer see themselves on the podium at races in just a few years like Brady Hopwood. It might be the discipline he learned in the military, it might be the midwest hardworking attitude, or maybe it's just the mustache... whatever it is, it was a pleasure getting to know Brady a little better. In this episode we also talk about some of t...

2022 Glenwood Women on the Podium Podcast
Chris, I think you need to try and get athletes to trash talk each other a little bit more. Think Jerry Springer.
I'll see what I can do... 😆
Muscular imbalance! This could be some of my issues. Thanks for mentioning it.
Hannah, you are awesome! Loved learning more about you, and appreciate how friendly you have been to me and others.
😠 'promosm'
Chris, thank you for creating such a quality series of graveling events in Iowa. And a special BIG thank you to Ashley Schroeder, for stopping to help my wife Nancy extricate her leg from under her handle bars after crashing on the bridge. What a wonderful example of sportsmanship! She is obviously a very classy lady and Nancy was truly appreciative. And for the record, there was a small crack in the boards on the bridge parallel with and just wide enough for a bicycle tire. Just bad luck for Nancy, but fortunate that she was riding with such a great group of people (like Ashley) to stop and help her out.
Thanks John, we talked to Nancy about it as well and got the story from her about the crack. Does seem to be just one of those things. So glad to hear she's doing okay; saw her at East/West Graveler and she looked to be doing great too!
Yes, she won the bet.
