    Thanks Zach -- this video sparked an entire path for me that is still unfolding 3 years later, around non-native aggressive plants, their gifts, connections across the globe/history/cultures, and the human animal role in intentional balance keeping, and I am forever grateful for your role in it! Thank you!

    I love this video, and am planning a local Sierra Club meeting to make baskets with bittersweet. I love your philosophy about asking what the land needs, and what we do doesn't have to be perfect. Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can. Thank you!

    Shame this video never popped up in the algorithm, pine needle tea is an incredible source of vitamin c, especially when you don't want all that sugar and srarch that usually comes with vitamin c

    This is great. I liked the idea of trying my hand at weaving a basket, but I could not bring myself to cut native vines for such an attempt. There is tons of bittersweet on my property that I am at at battle with--now I can try to do something with the vines that I pull out. Thank you!

      Eh i'd use native vines if I were you too. If it grows pretty aggressively, you can weave happily knowing that plant will come back. Of course, use advice at your own discretion, some plants are very slow growers, but vines naturally do regrow super quickq

    Can you make wine from just leaves as opposed to flowers?

    • @xRASTAxXxLIONx
      @xRASTAxXxLIONx 2 года назад

      Not sure if you've found out the answer to your question yet but I would suggest against it. The idea is the flowers bring a nice sweet floral boutique to the wine. The greens are bitter and grassy (not a very good profile for a wine).

    • @chickenlover657
      @chickenlover657 2 года назад

      @@xRASTAxXxLIONx Thanks for the reply. But just so you know, young spring leaves are very tasty, not bitter at all, I eat my whole lawn every april, lol You're prolly right about the sugar content tho, there would be more in the flowers I think, and it helps fermentation.

  • @kratomseeker5258
    @kratomseeker5258 3 года назад

    exactly buddy! i been making a older recipe of dandelion wine too that does not call for cutting the green off and it also did say to pick on a sunny day when the flower is fully open. what i noticed is the white latex is not present at the top of the plant but i assume it is when they are closed. atleast thats my theory but you are 100% right i even tasted it after boiling this time not bitter at all. people just need to pick them at the right time and use them right away. no really old recipes call for cutting the green off of the top. you are not supposed to use the stems tho of course.
