    52 year old age grouper. Tried to stick to 80/20 but found higher intensity training and then dialling it down on race day (long distance) works better for me. Each to their own. Making sure nutrition is achievable is biggest factor for me to have a good race day

    • @andybrodziak
      @andybrodziak День назад

      HI! thanks for the message - appreciate you tuning in! Not 100% sure I understand your comment entirely, but I'll give it a go - you trie sticking to training in this manner and then on IM race day you go at a much lower intensity , correct? That essentially is correct, we would never race anywhere near high intensity if I understood your reasoning right. IT just gives us a big scope to work within so when you are doing the IM, Z2 feels "easier" and you use less fuel for your chosen effort. You are 100% right - nutrition is the ( I feel) deal breaker between performing at your best or just getting around.

    • @andybrodziak
      @andybrodziak 12 дней назад

      HI, thanks. You're right, we do need a good core and some balanced breathing first - my aim with this video was once you outdoors to practice sighting for example, one way is to take fewer strokes, sight and adjust how many strokes you perform before sighting again, something that works a treat for most of my guys I coach. I probably didn't get that across very well, thanks for tuning in. Andy

    hi andy i enjoy your video's whilst riding indoors... with this topic i feel you missed the key to target a kona qualification... as we all know every age group is different however i target races where by i review the top 3 results and gauge if it is realistic to achieve that time... and if the course will suit me... being in aust we are limited to 3 aust IM and nz IM... then its asia in the heat...or usa and europe which adds huge $$$...

    • @andybrodziak
      @andybrodziak 12 дней назад

      Hey - thanks for watching and the feedback. I agree, course is vital - so individual and yes smaller races need top 3-4 per age group. You can past reference times and work out what is needed as an average, something I do also. SOuthern Hemisphere races are limited, so the competition is fierce, agreed! I arced in AUS for a year, early days, was fun. It's very hard for you guys, I can see that. Good luck with it! Andy

Try not get hung up about losing 10kg for example, just stay strong and injury free, consistent and the weight will take care of itself!

      @andybrodziak Месяц назад

      Hi Terry, thanks for the message and tuning in! Hope you enjoying the video's. Summer IM is great, and yes you want to be training now for sure, just not for specific Ironman type sessions, this is too draining and plus it's winter in NH. Work on high intensity, gym strength work, run economy ( plyo's, LT1 development; volume/frequency) - what I mean is you don't want a full ramp up until around 12 weeks out as it'll feel like you are drained by the time you get to June! andy

    Hi Andy, doing tenby this year for my first full! How would you structure S&C sessions , looking to keep 2 sessions a week in my program, both full body sessions and hit every movement plan, Push, pull, squat, Hinge, lunge etc ...does that sound reasonable? Thanks

    • @andybrodziak
      @andybrodziak Месяц назад

      HI Matthew, thanks for the message - happy new year! Tenby!! what a race...I may be there I'm not sure, doing some Precision Hydration work. I did a video on this exact topic, just check the library, but yes 2x sessions as a min, so you actually get the rewards and no DOMS, I like the full body workout 2x a week as you cover everything and it maintains you well. In winter though, like now, you could be more specific in areas you feel need more load, like posterior chain and 1 leg strength. This take more time and also will fatigue doing 5-8 reps with heavier load for example, but always seek guidance if you're not sure as you can easily hurt yourself! Andy

    The chimp paradox. I never heard of it I'll practise putting it in a box. I'd second your comment on being able to deal with mechanicals & btw going tubeless is not a garanteed protection against flats and can make it even harder in a worst case. That’s my plan anyway - I’m 42 now and sneaking under the 10 hour mark consistently, so I’m focusing on maintaining that form until I’m 45. Great video which pretty much confirms my own observations and calculations. Hopefully Ironman will soon release their future plans regarding the Ironman world championship. I'm aiming for a slot for the 2026 race if it's held in Kona. Once the number of slots for the autumn races are announced I'll decide where my KQ attempt will be. At the moment Cozumel looks like the most probable race assuming it's the venue for the Latin-American championships again. Qualifying in my eyes is more about hard and consistent work than genetics.

    Realistically less than 5,% will have any chance to get to Kona. Mark Cavendish summed it up best on why he's able to sprint after such a long ride and he said "genetics". Same goes for qualifying for Kona. The challenge for me is the other end, beating the cut off, much of which you said applies equally. Great video.

      Thanks Steven - I know it feels like that, but like I said to another chap below - it's just plugging away for a few years doing nothing magic, and you get better and better, just feels easier, if that makes sense. I was a terrible swimmer, weak on the bike and ok at running, no natural talent. Average VO2 max also. Just years of turning up! andy
