i enjoyed your very teaching voice and the way you showed how to do it thanks!
Thanks you!!
Thank youyoyuyou
Thanks Jaimie! Simple to understand and easy to follow.
Some reason, when I do closed or open loop with bezier pen tool, it always creates a closed shape full of black, rather than the path. Looks like I'm using the same mode as you as well.
HI Brad, Select the object you have drawn then go to object - fill and stroke - fill and then choose "no paint". This will take care of that problem.
Thanks!
This was super helpful! I'm trying to insert text in my comic, and your advice seems to be just what I needed. 🙂
Thank you very much. I enjoyed it a lot!
Very confusing
How did you get the grey background layer??
Hi Breanna, That's just the way my user interface looks on the computer I was using to record the video. The background is white on my laptop version of Inkscape. I imagine there's some way to choose background color, but unfortunately I don't know what it is - I've never thought about that aspect of the program. So sorry I couldn't help.
@@JaimieDavis_LoopyTulipDesigns I meant the layer you used to trace on.
@@CinchArt it's a separate layer that has her traceable image on it. Go to the right of the program, click layers and objects while the image is selected, and there's a button directly to the right that's a box with a paintbrush on it, look at the bottom of the screen and it'll say Opacity (%). Click the minus or plus arrow to make it more or less transparent. (Hope this helps! I literally just had to figure this out myself.) 💛
Very helpful. Thank you
thank you, it worked
Thank you!!
thank you very much
This is the most succinct and helpful explanation of how to use layers. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm currently learning how to use Inkscape, and I've learned so much from you. I do have an issue I'm hoping you can help me with. When I'm using the bezier tool, I set my line width the way I want it, but as soon as I stop and begin a new line, I have to reset the line width again. I'm planning on using Inkscape to make stained glass patterns, and I'll always be using the same line width; is there a way to set this as a default? Or is there a way to at least have it stay the same for an entire drawing (and not have it keep changing on me as I draw)? Thank you so much in advance :)
Hi, try this: Draw a line. Change the stroke-width to your desired value. Go to preferences (Shift Ctrl P). Click on Pen, then click "Take from Selection" (it's a wide bar underneath the highlighted "this tool's own style" option).
@@JaimieDavis_LoopyTulipDesigns Yay! That's exactly what I was looking for--thank you so much for your help, and have a fantastic day!
I imported a .png file into Inkscape, this image has many objects that were grouped together and saved as .png. Once into Inkscape, I imported the file but I am unable to ungroup them. Any recommendations on how to proceed to ungroup? Thank you.
Hi. Once you export a file as a png, the image gets merged into and saved as one thing, not a collection of parts so you are now unable to ungroup the parts. I had this problem early on also, so now whenever I create something, I save it in one file as an svg and in another file as a png. That way, if I want to edit my image, I still can. Hopefully your image won't be too difficult to recreate as an svg. :(
@@JaimieDavis_LoopyTulipDesigns Thank you SVG is an avenue to solve the hiccup.
This is the best vidio I’ve found for making bias tape
Thanks for showing me
thank you
Thank you Jaimie. This is the best applique tutorial I've seen on RUclips. I can wait to see if I can do it like you showed.
You are so welcome! Best wishes with your appliqué.
Thank you so much!
Group and ungroup is a must feature. I have a situation where I have two images. Both jpg or png. When I group them and I procede to remove background to make it transparent, the program that does that is either adobe express or fotor. Express does a better job, but removes an aphostrophy from the text and the ! sign from the text. Do not understand why, there is no logic. Fotor removes areas that I do not want transparent. Thanks.
thanks, right to the point, i like that! well explained!
Thanks dude :)
Thank you for the tutorial.
I spent a lot of time on Gimp before trying Inkskape. Inkscapes layer system is so different and almost confusing. Thanks for sharing!
Spent a long time trying to find out how to - your vid show'd how to easily. Thank you for showing the vid.
good tips, thanks very much!
Best tutorial EVER!! I’m learning hand aplique and so far your tutorials have been the most helpful!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much!!
Nice tutorial ! Cheers
Do you have to use a small iron?
No, but you run less of a risk of burning yourself. :)
I'm trying to figure out how to thicken a line from the inside out. But the default in Inkscape is to thicken a line from the inside and outside. For example, if a circle is 250 px in diameter, and the line is 1 px, if you thicken 5 px, the diameter of the circle is now 245 px.
I've never come up against this particular problem, but now that you explain it, I think that it would bug me, too. Unfortunately, I don't know what to tell you other than to scoot your lines to where you want them (or increase the size of the circle in your example) which could be extremely tedious if you've already done a lot of work. Therefore, I would google it and look for the user forum for Inkscape which has always been a great help to me when I have questions. Sorry I can't help with this.
this was very, very helpful Jaimie
Thanks Anita! It was your idea to do this video in the first place and now a lot of people have benefited from it and all of the others. 😊
My goodness that was so simple, i feel silly for not noticing. Many thanks
this used to work but now I cant change the color or stroke thickness. Also arrowheads are drawn outlines and will no longer fill. This program is really good when it works but every time I try to do something I have a problem. I've been using this method for a long time but now it just doesn't want to work. Something always something to fight with in this program. Ill have to spend more time troubleshooting it now than it would take to draw the stupid diagram.
finally gave up and just uninstalled the program then reinstalled it. Now its working again. Don't get it. Shouldn't have to do this.
@@kwacz I banged my head against this for a bit then found I had view display mode set to outline
Thank you SO much, I watched dozens of tutorials and yours is by far the best!!!!
Thank you so much!! :)
Much appreciated, thank you for uploading.
Just saw your video, Thanks for the Tip and Video...
Found my problem, saw where I had made the height and the width 90mm each. It does not work that way. Only needed to have changed the height. Sorry to have bugged you.
So glad you figured it out!
Hope you can help me out. After drawing a hexagon, selecting it, double-clicking on it so as to rotate - that works ok. When trying to rotate, it becomes distorted. I have tried holding the CTRL key by chance, nope that did not work, the ALT key, nope that too did not work. The SHIFT key simply rotates it from one point of the hexagon and also the hexagon shape also distorts. Any idea as to what I might be doing wrong? I trying to a Tea Lantern Light with six decorated walls, just simply want to rotate the hexagon, add in a slot and repeat, that is all.
Music very distracting. 😩
Thanks was very helpful
The background music is very distracting
Love your technique, just what I was looking for, but you need to turn off the music or at least turn it down. Makes it very difficult to hear you. 😊

Love your video, however, please talk slower, you talk way too fast to keep up with your video & to write what down the steps and products you're using. Thank you, Nancy Pyle
This helped me solve the problem of making ruched flowers from fat quarters. Works like a charm! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this extremely useful video! Also can’t stress enough how much I appreciate your concise and “to the point” delivery!!🥰🥰🥰
The plastic wrap example was VERY helpful. I could never grasp what my hand underneath was doing to get the needle back up through the sandwich. Thank you!! I can’t wait to try it today.
