i have been doing the exercises for my ataxia, how many minutes a day do i need ti do theses to see improvement?
@@loriporter7364 hi Lori. That's a great question. In reference to how long it takes to see improvement, unfortunately the answer is a bit different for each person as there are so many forms and progressions with Ataxia. Rewiring the brain and sensory systems is a lot more complicated than building muscle strength and therefore there really is no straightforward answer. This is especially true since everyone is at their unique stage in the disease progression. In reference to exercise dosage, research studies with ataxia often are more intense with 45- 60 minute sessions 5 days a week for months, however, I have seen results with little steps too as it's more realistic for long term habits. These research protocols are intense as they have strict guidelines in a set amount of time. I usually recommend shooting for 20-40 min. This intensity may be too much for some individuals who do better breaking it down into smaller fragments (2 times/day x 15 min).
I did it.
AWESOME!!! Great job!!! Thanks for sharing and keep it up!!!
I’m non load bearing on one foot and desperate to try this. However, even the one you mentioned doesn’t offer enough adjustable leg difference for the rise in steps. I’ve looked until my eyes are crossed 😁. Have you found a better one offering more inches to adjust?
Oh goodness ... I'm sorry to hear that. What is the step height?
The getting down and up off the floor exercise and the one-legged plus step exercise were a challenge. They will really help my overall recovery
They are most definitely challenging exercises! Great job for working so hard and being so dedicated! Thanks for sharing and keep up the amazing work!! :)
Yay! Just finished this challenge after doing the one for stability/ataxia. One question: what is the reason for doing the same exercise sequence every day when the other challenge mixed it up with different ones? Thank you for providing these videos. They really help me stay disciplined and motivated.❤
Wow! Congratulations!!!! Great job!!! 👏👏👏🥳🥳🎉🎉 And great question!... the exercises in this challenge are the exact same ones completed by participants in a research study that showed coordinative training can improve motor performance and a reduction in ataxia symptoms in degenerative cerebellar disease. I contacted the researcher (Dr. Ilg) and the physiotherapist (Dr. Brotz) to identify the exact exercise routine prescribed. However, since it can be boring to do the exact same routine, I changed the dosages to add a little diversity :) The study is linked below if you're interested <3 Congratulations again!!! 👏👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉 Intensive coordinative training improves motor performance in degenerative cerebellar disease pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19864636/ 🥳ruclips.net/user/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f389.png
I did it! Now on to the next day.
Yeah!!! Awesome job!! Keep it up!!! 👏👏👏
Those one-legged stands with headturns were quite a challenge. But definitely helpful.
Yes, they are definitely advanced for anyone! That's so great that you're up for the challenge! Keep up the hard work!
Soy de chile ,me dio ataxia pueden hablar en español ,gracias
I did day 2. Now on to day 3.
AWESOME!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!! 🥳
Can the 30-day challenge be used as part of "stroke" therapy?
Absolutely! It's fantastic for helping the brain organize and manage our balance sensory systems :) This is beneficial for everyone, but especially with anyone rehabilitating with a neurological condition (including stroke)
Spino celebral ataxia recovery which percentage
@@lsurya4605 I'm not quite sure I understand the question. To clarify, are you asking what the recovery percentage is for spinocerebellar ataxia?
Oh wow thank you ! I have to see the surgeon and was worried about how l was going to leave my basement apartment. Xo '
You're welcome! Please be careful as I hope this technique helps keep you safe <3
Yay! Finished all 30 at level 4 or 5. Thank you so much for these videos.
wow!!! That's amazing!!! Congratulations for finishing them AND really challenging yourself too! Be SO proud of yourself because you deserve a lot of credit for staying determined, resilient and dedicated towards finishing all 30 days! :) 👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉

@@amydeleon3387 haha lol .. very true! Now I'll be thinking of that when I have my patients trialing it 🤣

That's great!!!! 👏👏👏 Feel free to comment for some extra encouragement! Cheering for you! 📣 🥳
Just finished day 6 of the ataxia balance challenge and wasn’t ready to stop for the day. I really liked these 5 minutes of tai chi. Have followed tai chi classes in the past. I will continue these small tai chi lessons (and of course your other challenge). Thank you!
That's fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the amazing work!!!! 👏👏👏
Thank you for this challenging day! PS This day is not in the playlist.
Thank you both for the encouragement and the info!
Thanks for this comment and for the info so that I can add it! ☺️
Would work great. If you had leg muscles.
Hi your are such and underated ot found your videos
Thank you for that encouragement 😊
Where are you treatment done
I am in the US... The state of Illinois ☺️
Hello, my name is Anamaria from Romania, I have Ataxia and I want to ask you something. Can you give me an email address or where to send you a message? Thanks so much!
What brand shower chair? I've never found one that the legs adjust enough on to work.
Hi Kris. We usually use a standard one on Amazon linked below... I'm this video, for this step height, the legs are adjusted so that the inside ones are on the very shortest height and the outside ones on the very longest hight. As a disclaimer, this technique isn't safe for everyone, however if appropriate for the right person, can be effective:) Medline Bath Chair, Bench, Seat, Stool for Disabled, Seniors & Elderly Bathroom Transfer Inside Shower/Tub/Bathtub - 400 Lbs. Thanks!
Thanks
I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the session! Thanks for your positive feedback and support!
I love this program. As someone with Ataxia I'm so glad I can do targeted exercises for it! I did the stability for mobility challenge a couple of times but I feel like this is even more targeted. I also love that it's scalable depending on your mobility!
Thanks Shawn for that feedback! I truly appreciate your insight, experiences, and encouragement. Keep it up the amazing work!!! 👏👏👏👏
SOOO Helpful!! Thank you!
Thanks Liz! I appreciate your positive feedback and encouragement!
I'm also an OT and appreciate this content! Thanks!!

This sounds like fun. Love your cheerleaders
Thanks! Yes they always need to be included in everything 😉
Love you Elizabeth! So grateful for you ❤
Thanks for that encouragement ❤️ and a HUGE congratulations for finishing day 30!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
This is one of if not the best video I’ve seen and heard about Ataxia, thank you!! So informative, relatable and accurate, this feels so validating as a patient. I describe it as trying to walk with your Center of gravity swinging around your body at different speeds, instead of consistently pulling you down to earth.
Thank you for that positive feedback and insight. Your experience is so valuable in both teaching individuals without ataxia and validating those with it ❤️
Completed days 29 and 30.🎉
Wowowowow!!! Congratulations!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳 Great job!!! Be SO proud of yourself! It's a huge accomplishment to not quit and make it through all 30 sessions! 👏👏👏 AMAZING job!!!!
Completed day 27!🎉🎉🎉
Yeah!!! You're almost there!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Completed days 25 and 26 .🎉🎉
Amazing!!!! 👏👏👏
Elizabeth, how do you come up with the 5 levels? Do you factor in years of progression for each patient?
The five levels are based on balance grades for physical and occupational therapy. I wanted this challenge to be inclusive and therefore broke it down into 5 levels :)
@@LittleStepsBigGains OK
My husband has ataxia how can i find latest finds on this condition We live in Kissimmee, Fl. And there seems not to anybody familiar with Ataxia Any information you can share would be most appreciated Thank you. Jackie D
Hi Jackie! Have you looked at The National Ataxia Foundation website? There is a tab that connects you to a plethora of resources on current and upcoming research updates. Also, on RUclips, they have "meet the ataxia expert" where various experts ask questions about ataxia. I've learned a lot through there as well :) www.ataxia.org/

Just AWESOME!!! You're getting closer! Keep up the resilience and determination!!! 👏👏👏
Do you have 3 or 4 dogs?😊
In this challenge I have four! :) Buddy (chocolate labradoodle), Tulip (wheaten terrier) and Lana (Bernese mountain dog) usually like running in first. Clark (Yorkie) comes and goes as he pleases during the videos ❤️ ... He snores and shorts quite a bit that sometimes I have to edit it out 🤣
