Beginner Friendly Small Purse | Hand Knitting With Chunky Chenille
Thanks for the request, Anne Smyth! Ask and you shall receive lol.
This project was made using 4.7 ounces of 7 wt chunky chenille with a tight tension. If you use a looser tension than demonstrated in the tutorial, you will use more yarn. However, one 8 oz skein should suffice.

Learn how to seamlessly sew single and double tail ends without the use of a tapestry needle on your finger-stitched projects! This is my go-to for larger, heavier projects such as rugs, blankets, baskets, garments and more. Not a single broken join yet, and I can't say the same for the other joining methods. Not that I never use the other two methods, just not on the heavy stuff ;) This video,...

Beginner Chunky Chenille Blanket for Hand Knitting
I wish I had seen this tutorial when I first started making chunk blankets back in January. You really are great teacher. I am going to start doing my chain like the way u r doing it.
Aw, thank you so much, Lupe 🥰 You’ve made my day! Let me know if you like my technique for the first row off the foundation chain 🤗
Wow u r talented Stacy
Thank, Miss Lupe, and thank you for tuning into my channel 🤗🫶🏼
I can figure out going from right to left, but i can't figure out left to right. . And how many should you cast on for a throw 42x44? i am a tight knitter I love this pattern and enjoy watching your Videos. Thank you Missy ❤
Well, thank YOU for watching!! OK! First, you will want to chain an odd number for the foundation chain and measure 42” up to the second to the last chain. This pattern typically stays the same width as the foundation chain unlike most others. Now, you will want to follow the tension used in the video or you will end up with a stiff rug because this is a very dense stitch. I also am a tight knitter so this stitch pattern is very uncomfortable for me because the loops are so big, but trust me, they need to be. Finally, that return pass is easier than it seems once you get the hang of it. I recommend slowing down the video in your settings. I apologize, I just watched it over again and thought, boy, that’s fast! Anywho, that return pass is just a series of chains; the 3 finger chain goes in front of the knit st and the working yarn wraps from behind to draw up the next 2 finger chain so that knit stitch is trapped between the 3 finger chain in the front and the working yarn in the back. Your 2 finger loop goes behind the next knit st and you draw up the next 3 finger loop. You’re making chains just as you do for the foundation chain. That return pass just puts a bit of a spin on how to manipulate those chains to create the pattern. I really hope that helps! I appreciate so much that you reached out to give me the opportunity to clarify things. Please let me know if there’s anything more I can do to help! 🫶🏼♥️🥰
@stacyjames_jsar yhank you and ill.let you know how i.do..It probably won't be till after Thanksgiving. It's hard to believe it's next week. Thank you again ..
I must be an idiot because I dont get this at all. I have watched this video $100 times and I dont get it. I know how to stitch and pearl but I dont know what you mean by increase. I wish there was a way to show me that part
Hi Kayla. Don’t be so hard on yourself. This is more of an intermediate pattern; sounds like you’re pretty new to finger stitching. I have a tutorial on my channel showing all the different ways to increase, which would be a skill you learn once you’ve mastered the two basic stitches in knitting: knit and purl. Here is the video for increasing: ruclips.net/video/PomIgdMrtUk/видео.htmlsi=JMmYbsm7nbWd3-5P You will also be decreasing stitches to make the football as well. Here is the video for decreasing: ruclips.net/video/CRSb2gG-YzU/видео.htmlsi=XkIteZj-wE_t5HvS Finally, there are 2 small sections of an advanced color work method called intarsia. Most beginners will substitute the burn method here for changing colors so while I don’t normally recommend that method, you’re already learning 2 new skills with this project so burning at the color changes would be more ideal for you at this time. Remember, it takes time and practice to learn new skills. Be kind to yourself 🫶🏼 Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. I really hope these additional resources and suggestions help you with completing this project ♥️
super cute!! do you have a pattern for this ❤?
It’s in progress ☺️ but it won’t be published until the new year.
I’m new at this . I made three so far . Wanting to learn some new stiches. I don’t think I’m ready for this one. I looks pretty
It is a beautiful cable for sure, Beverly 🥰 I would recommend learning a few other stitch patterns before attempting cable work. The garter st, seed st, and wicker st (crisscross st) would be great patterns to work in that order to prepare for working cables. Hope you find this suggestion helpful. Happy Finger Stitching 🤗🥰
Replay Thank you😀 I want to try this
Stacey!! I loved your video!!! This was so helpful!! This may be too much to ask but what would you sell this for?
Thank you, Mary! 🤗 Thanks so much for tuning in ♥️ I along with others in my FB finger knitting group sell them for $35.
@@stacyjames_jsarcan I request a Christmas tree tutorial haha!! You’re so talented!!
🤣🤣🤣 you’re so sweet, thank you, Mary 🫶🏼 There are actually some really cute little trees out there already. I know @sabstuffies (I hope I have that right) has the cutest one I’ve seen yet. ☺️
I ran across this video last week and couldn’t wait to try it! I finished the blanket last night and it turned out great! Can’t wait to make another!
Yay 🤗🤗 I’m so glad you love it ♥️ Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
Thanks for showing to change by looping over the top, so pretty! You're awesome, thank you!!
Oohhh, I’m so happy I was able to help you! Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I appreciate the support 🥰
Where did you get the yarn you're working with? Do you sell it? The yarn looks thick and soft. Beautiful ❤
I buy in bulk from a few overseas suppliers 😊
I've never seen this done this way before. im looking forward to trying this
It really works! Let me know how goes ☺️
Stacy i was wondering when you cast on you, pull the loops towards you, then 2row You turn the row and pull away from you i was wondering why?? Your stitching is beautiful
Great question! So, when working the first row, I always turn the foundation chain upside down to work through the back humps. It’s much easier working through the back humps when the chain is upside down. This gives the foundation chain the same braided look as the bind off chain. Once the first row is completed, the foundation chain no longer needs to be upside down. Since we work projects flat when finger knitting, the piece can now lay flat.
@stacyjames_jsar thank you si much for getting back with me I anxious to try this .Have a safe holiday weekend.
What are the numbers of the cast kn on for the other 2 pumpkins, please.I really enjoyed your tutorial
Hi Missy, I don’t have a tutorial for pumpkins but @brendakay has a couple I believe ☺️
Maybe if the loops (or stitches) weren't so tight, the pattern can be seen better. I'm sure the finished product looks great, but it's hard to see it on the video.
The video’s thumbnail shows the entire blanket completed if that’s what you’re referring to. If you’re having a hard time seeing the pattern as it’s worked, watching it on a larger screen, such as a computer monitor or TV, can help ☺️ Either way, just follow the pattern for at least 20 rows. The piece stretches out as it’s worked. Trust the process, and thanks so much for watching 🤗
You are live waiting for you to show us somethimg . 6:25
lol, I’m absolutely terrible with the live feature 🤦🏼♀️🤣 Hope you were able to get to the good stuff 🤗
Hi Stacey thank you so much for teaching me intarsia. Can you tell me where you get the beautiful yarn from? Thank you
Thank YOU for watching 🥰 I buy in bulk from a few different overseas suppliers. Are you interested in buying in bulk?
I can see & hear you :)😂

Aw, thank you, my friend ♥️ You are too kind.
BLESS YOU. 😂 I was flipping out a little bit making a blanket for a wedding gift. Turned it over and the dang dropped stitch was 10 rows back 😫
Ugh! I feel that. Still happens to me after 40 years of knitting/crocheting 🥴 So happy to be able to help ☺️♥️
How cute for little gals! You’re such a talent!
As are you! Thank you, Miss Gaye 😘
This is waaayyy too confusing...I am sorry, I really wanted and needed this...😢
Aw, I’m sorry you’re struggling. Is there something in particular you’re finding confusing?
Excellent! It’s amazing how you always come up with these little tricks for the perfect finish. Thank you so much for your expertise!
Awww 🥰 Thank you, sweet Gaye ! I appreciate your support and friendship, my friend 😘
do you have a pattern or video on how to make this blanket?
@user-rd7mb4xi9i I’m working on the video and pattern now. It will be available once I launch my membership program in July ☺️
What kind of thread do you use?
I use upholstery yarn I bought off Amazon ☺️ It comes on a large spool.
Can you show us how to make a granny square with chunky yarn or big yarn.
What a great idea! I sure can. I’ll add it to my list ☺️
@@stacyjames_jsar Thank you so much
Stacey, do you think you could keep your knitting straight instead of curling it up as you are knitting. I find it very hard to figure out what you are doing when it curls like that. Beautiful work you do.
Thank you for your kind words and feedback, Gloria ♥️ I’m sorry you’re finding it difficult to work the 2nd row due to the curling effect after working row1. This is a technique I use on all my blankets, which provides a couple benefits such as slack management off the foundation row and width management as the rows are being worked. I have found that this technique improves the quality of the blanket over time as it keeps the foundation chain from separating from the body of the blanket, an issue I personally experienced when I first started hand knitting 4 years ago. I review this method in my beginner’s tutorial. If you haven’t already, I would recommend watching that for more instruction and explanation. I really appreciate the opportunity to provide a bit of clarity, and I sure hope you understand. Thank you so much for tuning in! ♥️
This is the best tutorial I’ve seen yet!!! Thank YOU!
You are so kind, thank you ❤️❤️ and thanks for tuning in ☺️

I almost finished my blanket, but I noticed that the beginning is much looser than the middle and end , I think I can take it apart from the beginning, but not sure. Any tips on how I can do that , it took me. Reeeeally long time 😩
Hi Kathy 🤗 This is very common when just starting out. Be sure to watch my beginner video. It addresses this issue. I don’t have a tutorial on how to take the beginning apart but, yes, it can be done. If you used a slip knot to beging your foundation chain, untie that and unravel each stitch from the tail end. You’ll see that as you unravel the chains, there will be loops that you can work into once you unravel far enough back to the rows you want to redo. Then, you bind off your stitches just as you do at the very top when finished with the blanket. Good luck 🤞🏼 I hope this helps ☺️
I need the rest of the tutorials! I can't find any more on your channel 😢 I have finished the octomom up to this point but now what about babies? And a flap to close it?
I'm also gonna need the racoon head tutorial!!!! Peeeeeeese!!!!
Hi Kirsten 🤗 I apologize, I didn’t have time to finish the one from the live tutorials. However, I’m working up an Octomom for a customer and recording it for a full tutorial for my up and coming membership program in the next few months.
I can’t wait to try this!!!! It’s next on my list!! 😊❤
I can’t wait to see it, Carrie!!! I love this stitch pattern. Very little stretching with wear ♥️♥️
How do I figure out how many yards I will need for a 40x60 inch blanket?
Hi Sue! That is actually a complicated question. Tension is specific to each person, which means you’ll get a number of different answers to this question. I use roughly 220 yards for a 40 x 60. If you’re just starting out, I would recommend that. You want to make sure you buy enough yarn for your projects and this should leave you with extra.
Thanks!!
You’re welcome 🤗
I assume It was hand crocheting
That’s right. Amigurumi is crochet ☺️
Hello again, Mrs. James, sometime ago, I inquired about where you purchased your chenille yarn. I'm grateful for the share. I do prefer buying by bulk if my money allows. Do you have the site information? This is no snow job. I love your Tutorials. Thanks so much for your reply.
Thank you so much for watching, Lorraine 🤗 I’m happy to share my supplier info. Please email me at support@justspoolinaround.com and I’ll respond with the info.
Thanks again for the share.

Thanks again for sharing all your knitting knowledge with us and I know this football will be greatly appreciated by its recipient.

Amazing
Thank you 🥰
Knitting Needle
I thought so, too but that didn’t work either 🤦🏼♀️ I ended up having to use a drill bit.
I neeeeeed to see how this turned out I'm doing a similar one for my first ever blanket and I wasn't going to do stars till I heard you say you did! I need to see them please plz plz!
Hi Deborah ❤️ This is actually still a work in progress. I ran out of the yarn I used for the stars, bought more and just never got back to it. I had actually forgotten about it until just recently…oops. Anywho, I’ll add it to my list of WIPs to finish up but it may be a bit. I’m working on quite a few things right now hoping to get some fresh videos out for you all. Thanks so much for supporting my channel! I’ll do my very best to get you an update on this as soon as I’m able ☺️
I would love to see your video
Wow how confusing, watched 4 times and still clueless. Very difficult to see the stitches, looks like a jumble mess 🤣. I tried it with the video step by step, turned into a knitted mess. Being this my very first attempt, maybe I should try this pattern after I made a few other patterns. Im not going to call it quits just yet because I live the way the finished product looks. Thanks for being you - a real person 👍
Oh dang, yes, this is quite ambitious for a first attempt at finger knitting. I totally understand why you’re so confused lol. I would recommend starting with this tutorial first 🤗 ruclips.net/video/bLxGRsXDSUk/видео.htmlsi=Rm96ZJTEjCKvYa6L
Please tell me the name of the material and where I can get it, in which country or the name of a distributor. I would appreciate it. Thank you also for sharing your technique and knowledge about this activity.
Hi Rosita ☺️ Currently, I specialize in finger knitting with the 7 weight jumbo chenille, which can be purchased from any big box craft stores in the U.S. I order direct from the factory from a few different suppliers because I order in bulk. Are you wanting to order yarn in bulk, as in hundreds of skeins at a time?
Omg.. I wish I founf uour video 4 blankets ago.. I like some of the other video but I could never for the life of me figure out why it was streachy in the width but not the foundation ends... I like the burning method if connection even when I am at the end and need to add a new one.. I do not tie just burn and keep going. No nots to stich togther.
I’m so glad you found this helpful 🤗 Thank you for taking time to comment. I appreciate you 🥰
I can't wait! 😊
Me either!!! Haha
What brand of yarn are you using?
I order from an overseas supplier, but most of the big box craft stores carry the jumbo chenille.
So much more challenging than I had anticipated so I have to move on, but I’ll still be hard at this until I get it perfecto. I WILL get this right 😂
You're the first video that I've watched that is really giving me an understanding of how to do this make this blanket my hat is off to you cuz I'm really trying to get this thing. Thank you!
Your kindness is extremely heartwarming, Carmen ❤️ Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate you! And thanks for tuning in ☺️
Do you have a tutorial on just scalloping the borders
The right and left edges are considered to be scalloped because the cables are worked from the very first st to the very last st. Most of the time, each row will begin and end with a knit st - not part of the cable - which places a small border along the edge. Are you referring to the foundation and bind off chains being scalloped? If so, I’m not sure what that means.
@stacyjames_jsar I guess just asking if I can scallop without cables? I am more of a beginner but would like to scallop to create a baby blanket, smaller and no cables
@timapeterson7464 ok, so I think what you may be looking for is a simple knit. I have a beginner tutorial for that if you’d like ☺️ ruclips.net/video/bLxGRsXDSUk/видео.htmlsi=CSuniWAHjrQ3NmPH
Thanks Stacy. I've been watching a lot of your tutorials but this one I had to try. It took me all day (doing it while I worked😊) but I finished it. I hope I did well. I can't wait to do another project.
Aw, I love this!! I have no doubt you nailed it ☺️ Thank you so much for tuning in 💕
