Came across a silent youtube video for a SPP at least 2 1/2 years ago when I first started making bags. I made myself templates, sewed up a few and then I stashed it away in my no man's land of paper templates. Fast forward to this past week and voila. It took a couple of hours to find my template and I started sewing up a few more. After a few instagram stories, I had people asking for a video...

For those of us not experienced in sewing as you, showing the actual steps wouldve been very helpful. As others mentioned, confused by what you mean by on the fold...
@@reneem9353 I apologize for the confusion. When I mention cutting on the fold it means folding your fabric in half and putting the edge of the pattern piece or template where the arrows are located against the fold and then cutting fabric. Essentially, after cutting on the fold, when you unfold the fabric will be twice it's original size. I hope this helps.
Absolutely love your video. However am not being allowed to download the pattern. add to cart went through all the steps but still not able to download. DIGITAL download tab is not lighting up to download.

Yikes! Can you tell me why my iron started to smoke after I did one section? It is an old iron, so I will go buy a cheap new one tomorrow. I have my wax melted.

What do you do if the zipper storage in on the inside of the tote?

I would be scared to use an iron directly in contact with wax because it soooo flammable. Please consider getting parchment or teflon sheets to put down on the waxed surface.

It would be good to show cutting out the fabric. I’m confused with the cut on the fold . So we double the fabric
@@kathyreichard7029 I'm so sorry I missed this comment before. When I mention cutting on the fold. I mean folding your fabric in half, laying your pattern piece against the fold, and cutting out around the pattern. When you're done and you unfold it, it'll be twice its original size. I hope this helps.

Hi. I might try this. I'm surprised how expensive waxed canvas is if you try to purchase from a website. I would think this would be more economical. I did just take a piece of canvas and applied Odicoat to it. It gives the canvas a nice sheen to it and its job is to waterproof the canvas. I did go through almost a whole jar to coat about 1 yard of canvas (with 2 coats). We'll see how the finished product works. I would like to ask you what is the make and model of the industrial sewing machine that is next to you in the video. I'm on the hunt for a new machine and there are so many to choose from, it can become rather confusing. Thank you.

What oz. is your canvas before you wax it
The canvas in the video is 10oz but I’ve waxed several different weights without issue.
Love this … thank you. Just curious. Would you wax the fabric before sewing or sew your project (coat/bag etc) and then wax it? Just wondering about impact on the sewing machine.
I have always waxed before sewing and so far I haven't had any issues with my sewing machine. Thankfully! 😊

What kind bias tape you use
What kind wax and waterproof canvas you use
It's parafin pellets and beeswax I ordered off of Amazon. The canvas is just your basic duck canvas purchased from Joann's. 😊
What size is your webbing and I have a Juki DDL-8700 -H industrial straight stitch and I want know what kind feet you use on your machine is that the skin foot I’m known to the Juki
The webbing is 1 inch I think and I use the narrow foot that a ordered from Gigis.
Now any zipper tape can match or complement your project🎉🎉🎉🎉

I took your class at the sew expo 2023! I loved it!!! I am actually fixing to wax my fabric for some bags for a cruise!!! I do have a question though. Do I need to interface my bag with the wax canvas?
You can interface if you want but you can't use the iron on kind.

@@raby_jess Hey Jess! You can interface if you want you just won't be able to use an iron so the interfacing or stabilizer would have to be stitched on our you could get the self adhesive Therxfuse from Fabric Therapy. The SA Therxfuse is my favorite to use on waxed canvas.

Where can I find material requirements? I’m trying to figure out how much materials I need to create this (I’d also make for market and for personal use) FQ interior and exterior? 1yd interior? Please advise.
Materials List • 13x7 inches of medium to heavyweight fabric for pattern piece A or G also called “bottom base main”. • 13x7 inches of chosen interfacing (optional). • Half yard of selected material for each of the “inner lining and main lining” also called pattern piece B. • 1 fat quarter for the remaining pattern pieces C, D, E and F. • Separating (coil or sport) zipper at least 18-22 inches. If creating your own separating zipper use #5 zipper tape and don’t forget your zipper pull. • Optional tab end zipper will need 18 -22 in zipper tape with zipper pull. • Optional side zipper pocket will need 6 in of #5 or #3 coordinating zipper tape with zipper pull. • Optional ½ inch / 1 in lobster claw clasp • Optional 1 in/1 ¼ in key chain hardware Happy Sewing! 😊

Yes I’m slow at getting to watch the videos. You mentioned about the hand wheel being stiff. With my industrial machine if you lightly press the foot pedal it will disengage the clutch of your motor and the wheel turns easily.

Hi I made one of these poches but when I pull the slider down my lining bunches and pushes out of the top. Is there a good way to prevent this?
I think over time there will be less friction because of use which will help with the bunching up. I've experienced the bunching with heavier fabrics and I usually just push it back in after sliding it down.

In extreme hot weather will the wax melt onto the contents inside a bag or a passport holder i want to make, onto the passport?
I've used my bag in weather upwards of high 90's and at the beach. I didn't have any melting. 😊
@byGeorgeandmore I did wonder if the wax would melt off the garment if it was left in the car, etc??? Guess I'll test it out?
