By the late 80s, Eddie was using a huge FM module called TX816, made by Yamaha and featured EIGHT DX7s! That's a lot of FM power. In this video, I'm showing you where to find the preset that Eddie used in the song "Feel So Good", using DEXED vst and giving you the alternative on how to set up the OB-Xd vst to sound close to it (if you don't have the DEXED vst)

This is good. 1:53 The only part of the drum track that was linn was the kick and hi-hat. the clap was Oberheim DMX, the cowbell was Fairlight cmi IIX and idk about the snare was also Fairlight CMI IIX.

How to recreate that “Maniac” sound?
Using the same settings for version 3 and all I'm getting is a clavical type plunking sound with the Journey preset. What's the issue here? The Toto is pretty spot on, kinda, but the Journey preset eludes me.

Although this couldn’t be done on the actual DX7 due to it being monotimbral, this could be done on the TX802, since that had 8x the DX7’s polyphony!😄🤩😏😎🤓👌
You mean the entire composition could not be played on one dx7?
@@spinningsquare1325 Nope, the actual DX7 is monotimbral, meaning all of the DX7’s sound channels can only play 1 FM patch at a time that can be played amongst them, and you can’t play more than 1 patch at a time!😅🙂↕️😔 However, the TX802 fixes this problem by allowing up to 8 different patches to play among the channels!😄😏😎🤓

Half of these songs, I would never have even figured that it was a drum machine anyway. So either my ears have crapped out or the LinnDrum was incredibly good at imitating live drums

omg, the billy idol one. When it came on, i thought "Super Mario 3, underground!" Had never heard the billy idol track until today and can clearly hear this was influential. And also just a great track - love that reverb.

Tom Sawyer patch should be two pulse waves, not sawtooths
I used to own an OB-X and covered Tom Sawyer sometimes. The two oscs are set to pulse waves in unison, detuned until they pulse at the correct tempo. the LFO modulation on them is a sine at 5% duty cycle

No, the MD had a 2-op FM chip, the DX 7 a way more advanced 6-op FM chip. I never understand why you would limit Dexed to MD boundaries in 2023. Just use it as SY99 for example. The MD had stinking stereo imaging for example.
