It has been said that...quote: DNA eveidence was suspect after the case in question had been in the ground for so long...?....James Hanratty later confessed he was fencing jewelry with a man from Liverpool in LLadudno at the time of the murder...A couple in the village remembered Hanratty described as staying at a house with a : quote green front door...If identikit pictures are looked at, Peter Arfon was the man who fitted the picture. He later confessed to the murder, conveniently after capital punishment had been abolished.
Hanratty was definitely innocent
Dead mans hill is now know as Clophill on the road to Bedford.
Milton Keynes looked all shiny and new
Why wasnt he buried in Bedford prison
Guilty
DNA was tested and was proved to be 100% Hanratty.
Strange when other DNA tests failed because the garment was contaminated, yet this test succeeded because the police were being investigated for wrongful acts of justice & set out to prove Hanratty did it ……despite the evidence.
I believe hanratty was totally innocent
Where did he get the gun and all that ammo from? What was he trying to do? What was his motive?
The gun in this case is a key piece of evidence, and yet it is a mystery where it came from and who had it in the past.
I wonder if Gregsten's wife paid Afor to carry out the shooting (if his claims are true) Seems strange she picked out Hanratty in the street well before the case became prominent. May have all been a set up for someone else to take the fall for the murder.
A number of unanswered questions. The kidnapping took place in the country side. What were the killer's movements up to this point ?
C4, the BBC (Panorama) and Daily Mirror casting doubt on a worthless characters conviction...well what a surprise ! Only they dug his body up and forensic DNA proved beyond all doubt that he was the evil bast.ard responsible.
Well, Alphon is obviously as guilty as sin and hell.....
Its still ugly, still dull, and its being a 'city' is laughable.
the dad sounds like David Mitchell 😂
I saw Back To The Future starring Michael J Fox in the Point cinema in December 1985 and it cost me just 95p.😲🎥🎬
The confession is proof enough he didnt do it . I know some confess to crimes they didnt do but in this case it does sound convincing.
36:41 chilling
I was a small boy when this case was big news but I remember my grandparents talking about it and later I found they had kept the newspapers of the time plus others. It was a horrible crime.
The identikit pictures drawn after this crime, strongly indicated Peter Arfon....who later admitted he was the killer.
Yet dna proved the conviction correct
Evil Hanratty
If you'd committed a murder and hidden the gun would you leave cartridges in your own hotel room?
Hanratty was too dim witted to be able to properly cover his tracks.
MK reminds me of those Soviet Union cities. Utilitarian Modern functional Looks clean and tidy.i think expanding it ever larger probably ruined the atmosphere of the town.ive never been there myself but thats the impression i have,
This is an old program DNA has sinced proved the semen in stories underware was his. He did it.
1:05 - Lucky not to hit that old Beetle on the roundabout!
Deadman's hill . What an irony .
A VERY bias version. Wonder what they all thought 9 yrs later when DNA evidence came thro ?
Biased, not bias.
When English was correctly spoken and understood .
This case has always fascinated me , As a small boy , I was living near the crime scene.

Why dad talk through his nose? Why ‘young’ daughter sound like 28 year old?
DNA. Hanratty was unable to disappoint his parents and the trust they had in him. DNA decades later proved his role.
David his parents/family stood by him and never believed for an instant he committed the crime . In his own words ' I may be a bit of thief but I'm not a maniac "
@@davidhat2446 He was both actually..

@@davidhat2446DNA doesn’t lie
This is sadly nonsense..Hanratty was a damaged personality..he had a poor relaltionship with his father and a record of criminality..he was revealed to be a psychopath in the 1950s in an internal prison report..there is alot of evidence against him and not just the spent carts found in the Hotel room..
It's just so clean, now I've gotta clean this fucker everyday
Now look at the place😔
No! MK is awesome!
I wonder why the other gentleman, kept confessing if it wasn't he who did it?
AGER hard to say but it seems it was some sort of guilt complex . No one ever thought it would get this far and someone would actually be hung .
He was just an attention seeker who knew he could get away with confessing for the simple reason he didn't do it and wanted to make British justice look stupid. V Storie failed to pick him out from the ID parade.
People do confess to crimes they haven't committed which is why police often keep some details back. It helps weed. Out false confessions.
@@margaretbanks8969I believe hanratty was totally innocent
I love mk, the station area was perfect just the way it was in this video, the council have ruined it now and are doing their best to destroy the rest of mk.
In what way? The station is STILL awesome...
@@georgedowns4034 they put the bus stops right infront of it and took away the train, also the trees have gone. and we have bike sheds suck in the middle. its just an eye sore now.
@@drtydawg73 there's the car park round the back though which is big enough and I kinda find the station blending into the building pretty unique and the station itself isn't really ugly. I guess I see what you mean about the bus area though...
@@georgedowns4034 it just feels like youre walking out into london or something when you come out the station now, where as it used to be like you were walking out into a nice open country type area with fresh air and freedom. i remember coming up from london when i was 18 thinking this was the most awesome place on the earth. its just the same as any other over crowded, noisy and busy town now. :-(

Never, hopefully.
@@andyc6542Unfortunately soon. I saw a planning application to demolish it the other day. Sad times.
A disgrace to British justice.
DNA proved his guilt. The disgrace is the campaign by posh lefties like Paul Foot who scorned the old school Scotland yard detectives and encouraged the public to see them as incompetent and corrupt. THEY were right and Foot was wrong. He never apologised.

MrG actually someone else got hung because they were unfaithful! Crazy logic .
A curious and complicated case for a good while but all doubt ended by the DNA testing a few years back.
andy so you say hahah
Was it proved he was guilty ? .
Andy sorry but a naive and over simplistic statement
What happened. Was the DNA positive .
There were issues with the evidence being contaminated, though. Apparently, they stored most of the evidence all together, allowing for potential cross-contamination.
James Hanratty's body was exhumed in 2001 to extract his DNA.[36] His DNA was compared with other DNA extracted from, firstly, mucus preserved in the handkerchief within which the murder weapon had been found wrapped and, secondly, semen preserved in the underwear worn by Storie when she was raped. DNA samples from both sources exactly matched James Hanratty's DNA. No DNA other than Hanratty's was found on the handkerchief in which the murder weapon had been found wrapped.
There was doubt . Even with the DNA today, I am left bewildered.
He was guilty....DNA proved it in 2012. End of ...
nicky ever heard of human error , or corruption , beginning of ...............
@@davidhat2446 Derek Bentley, the guilford four, Birmingham Six and Stefan Kischko (google them) were cases of human error and corruption at the highest level of the police and judicial system and yet they were overturned so there would be no reason why the judicial system wouldn't admit it's error in this case aswell...end of !!!
nicky you forgot Timothy Evans .haha
@@davidhat2446 Exactly...so it proves my point in my first message even more.
nicky what your saying is horse shit and you know it . There is no reason in the world why the Hanratty case will eventually be overturned and the judicial system admit its error . Why should they without tremendous public pressure ? They protect their own why is why he got hung in the first place . Nothing to do with guilt or innocence .
Why did he give a false name in the doss house? Why did he steal a car and dye his hair and go on the run if he was innocent? This film was made before the DNA evidence found his semen on Valerie Storie’s underwear and on a cloth wrapped around the murder weapon. Of course, he should never have been hung.
His alibi was a joke, he was guilty...
Pygiana he dyed his hair because he became aware the police were making enquiries about his housebreaking .Actually nobody at Deadmans hill noticed his weird hair color . This was a plus for Hanratty .
Kailish so you have studied the case thoroughly have you ?
Valerie Storie said the man couldn't drive. In fact, after raping her, he forced her to show him how to drive the car off. Then he shot her multiple times and she collapsed and laid still, so he walked off thinking she was dead. But James Hanratty was an experienced car thief. This doesn't add up at all. Why would you pretend you can't drive to someone you was about to kill? Also, Hanratty had absolutely no history of violent crime. A burglar and a thief, yes. But rape and murder? I remain convinced he set up, despite the circumstantial DNA evidence.
Irish were prosecuted in those days 😬😠😡that's why
?
You have a point
His parents should of had a public apology and been compensated .
