Sometimes you get a feeling about a show .... when I do, I hit record in my pocket... this one came out pretty good! This is an amazing band. This gig has been on my mind constantly ever since Fiske threw his Strat to the ground at the end. There are bands that can play perfectly, everyone is in tune, in time, sounds good, dresses like who they want you to think they are - yet there is somethin...

Wow! This song was really throwing me for a loop. Thanks for posting this. This made my night!
Brilliant, thank you 🙏
Really enjoyed this. Not only did I learn a few things but I liked your phrasing and tone against the backing track in the beginning. 👏👏😎
Thank you very muchly 😊🙏
Thanks for sharing! It's my favourite song from Tony !
Ace 😊 - thank you 🙏
Many thanks for this 👍 Always loved this track, and Hogwash is a great album ❤.
It sure is. Thank you David 😊🙏
Brilliantly done... Love what you're doing? John Whitney and TS McPhee are so underrated ... McPhee really thought about the guitar in a different way. Thanks much.
And thank you 🙏 😊 I so hope to be able to do more soon
If there's a better song than this, lead me to it. When we lost Toy, we lost one of the best ever. Love MTB. I'll be listening to these guys until the day I put my cue back in the rack.
Doing a groundhogs set with Pete Cruickshank on bass on 27th September '24 at the Workington railway club. Come along and meet Pete and see the show.
I’d love to, alas it’s so far from the south coast. I have family there too who I’ve never met. Have a great gig with Pete 😊
This lad is brilliant
hey, wanna do the cover together and put it on youtube?? I particularly like this song, I m a bass player, with the right hand and gear.
We could have a go. I’d have to revisit it … sieve memory 😊. How were you thinking we could go about it ?
@@theguitartundra I think we could first of all get each other email,so we can confront each other tracks like you send me the guitar part i send you the bass part and once we overcome the Pedestrian section and the end section right we'll then think about the drummer. what do you think
@psychorock83 okay grand - time is a big issue for me I’m afraid. I’ve put it on my list, let’s see if I can get there 😊
That's so cool. Loved how you played it!
Thank you 🙏 😊
Richard Hammond? Top Gear? I had NO IDEA he played guitar!! ;)
He’s twice as tall as me !
Well, I don't play, but I loved this study. Such a brilliant track and fascinating to see how you handled it. Bravo, sir... 👏👏👏
Thank you 🙏 😊 - that’s great
@@theguitartundra Entirely my pleasure...
This is the kind of song you can just play all by yourself
This is great, cheers! Covid times- not so dandy😂! I was trying to work out "a year in the life" from split the other day and decided Tony was just evil😂😂. What a great player and a great band! And your rendition is groovy too!
Thank you 🙏 - A year in the life is tricky, there’s so much going on it’s hard to hear the chords 😊
@@theguitartundra aye, I think it's a lot of open chords around d g and the odd bflat but the bass is so prominent and all the chords anchor on it that it's hard to hear what or which guitar is doing. It's another great song by them though. They really did some amazing, hearty and heavy stuff.. one of me faves!
@@vitamind.d.fishinsea8570 me too. I’m tempted to have a go , but at the same time … a little scared 😂
@@theguitartundra 🤣
@@theguitartundra it's a spooky chord sequence along with Tony's medieval vocal delivery.. the fear is warranted!!
Thanks for this one , glad you had time to spare to make another fantastic video . Coffee coming up .
Hi Ward, thank you and I just saw the coffee cone in. Thank you very much 😊🙏😊
Pure madness isn’t it! Can’t thank you enough yet again…absolutely brilliant
So glad it might help 😊🙏
The whole of blues obituary has a unique sound to it, all the instruments captured in their live state(mcphee could couldn't replicate it live though). I've not heard any other recording by anyone with natural guitar tones like this. Enjoyed your breakdown immensely.
Thank you Russell 😊. There was a punklike attitude to their delivery which I really dig.
Great, thanks 👏
I didn't particularly want to learn any Duane Allman stuff at this stage (more interested in the Burlesque walkthrough) but got hooked by your playing! I did wonder, however, why Parts 1 & 2 were played on your white Strat but not Part 3. That white Strat is so sweet and I just have to find out what pickups are in there, and are they also the same as in your sunburst? ps. I've been playing since the '60s but never even learned a single Groundhog track. Better see what I've been missing !
Firstly thanks so much for watching all of those 🙏😊. Both of those Strats are Bacchus guitars, made in Japan, 20 odd years ago. They have Yuta pickups in them which are quite highly regarded. I think I played the sunburst one, just because it was lying around to be honest, although the frets are slightly less warn on that one, so it’s a little easier to do those Duane bends 😊 - thanks so much for your comment and I recommend ‘Split’ and ‘Thank Christ for the Bomb’ as good access points for Groundhogs music. 🙏😊
Wonderful to understand how complex the chord structure is - TS McPhee was genius! Thank you.
Why does he suddenly look out of the window? That is weird!
I remember reading he used to dime his Amp which I think was a Twin Reverb here with JBL D120 speakers....that pedal is a winner....there's an amp by Mason Dixon that captures his tone too......👏👏👏👏👏
I’m sat with Mark (who makes Mason Dixon) right now in a pub in London. I just read him your message 😊 - thank you
Well done mate.....his playing brings tears to my eyes.. ...so expressive was Duane....the Layla album would not be the same without him on it.....I'm sure Clapton would agree....there's another way to step down from the Am....it's a typical blues phrase....much simpler....difficult to explain but easy to show.....
Thank you again. The same could be said for so many pieces he has played on…. Well, most of them in fact 😊
Great job mate.....he's my hero....I'm old enough to have seen him play live three times before he passed....he's the reason I play guitar today....sure miss those boys
Thank you 🙏 - I’m very jealous. It all seems to have come to a close very quickly.
Hello! Do you know if the original version is in standard tuning or not? Thks!
Hi Danny, I believe it was in Open E 😊
@@theguitartundra thks so much 🙏
Killing it! Keep Toy's playing alive 2024.
Medieval Mcphee with just a touch of Les Dawson, he was so clever
One of my favourite tracks ever
Very nice! Thanks for the clean tone; easy to hear...
Thank you 🙏 😊
Sounds great !! Hit them licks , so much soul ,his sound will always be a favorite of mine , thank you for sharing your talents 💯% 🙏
Thanks so much Walter 😊🍺
Absolutely love this really gunna help with my bands cover, think we’re even gunna put it on our e.p😁 Love holding claim to the youngest groundhogs enthusiast I know lol
Hi Caleb, I’d love to hear it 😊. That was me once…. Now I’m one of the oldies 😊 Thank you 🙏
I’ll send it over when done, we’re currently on song 3 of 5 for the e.p it’s a long process getting everything done ourselves with limited equipment but it’s rewarding !
@@Crescent.band2024 I hear you 😊 and I can sympathise, we just did our last one all ourselves and it’s an epic undertaking. But yes, very rewarding 🍺
@@theguitartundra I could email you two of our tracks I’d love for you to have a listen I’m sure they’d be your thing 🎸
@CalebHayCrescent great - scotiadave@yahoo.com - I can listen in the morn 😊
Great video man and playing! Thanks for posting. I’ve had the pleasure of taking drum lessons from Paul T. Riddle and in 1995 he asked me to teach his students while he played for the Allman Brothers while Jaimoe was ill. Then Paul T. Had a band called Seven Moore and I saw them performing this song at the end of the show. Wow! I never got the pleasure of seeing Toy play. But I love love this Lp and there others. Paul came down to my house last year and just tore up my kit! I would post some of that but I respect his privacy. My band at the time played at Doug Gray’s wedding. The band has had a big influence on me as well as tons of people around the world. 🎶. Good stuff.
That’s amazing, thanks so much for posting and for the thanks. I’ll have to look up those Allman shows. Thanks again, great stuff to read 😊🙏🍺
Well done and so nice with a little love in the direction of this great band :)
Thank you Jan 😊🍺
I love your Groundhog Videos !!
Thank you Johnny 🍺😊
Marvelous , thank you . I'll try to nail that one and record it , but might take some time . Again another much appreciated lesson in McPheeism's .
Another great method
Thank you Andy :)
Always loved the Drumming on this one but in general this Album had a more refined sound which was maybe using better recoding gear or just down to the Sound Engineer, who knows. Anther Gem from Tony TS RIP
1st person to play it righton the money except 1st time through on the C sub Bnote instead of C shape saw toy bunch of times right up close.1st time thru is different from rest of song
Brilliant, thank you Stephen 😊🙏
Great as always can I request a tune from another great Tony ..budgies "Napoleon Bonaparte's 1 and 2 " please ❤
Thank you Andy 😊 - I’ll have a listen to those tomorrow, thank you 😊

Hey! Is it possible for you to do a lesson on Music is food for thought? I’ve tried to figure it out but i just can’t seem to grasp it haha
I’ll have a looksie 😊
Very nicely done my friend 👍👍 I grew up a Southern Rocker (MTB, CDB, Blackfoot, Delaney & Bonnie, NRPS, JJ Cale, Outlaws etc.) MTB always seemed to lean a little towards the jazzy side, so very tasteful. Sweet & smooth
Thank you 🙏 and I agree very muchly 😊
Geeeezz , was I hibernating still ? The man is back and I f#@&*ng missed it by several weeks ! Glad to see you here again . And with another lesson in Groundhog greatness . Thanx a lot , that was another one on my bucketlist . One of many more to come , I hope , he cried out in desperation . But I know of the time issue . So I'm happy with everything that comes on here .
Thank you very much 🙏 - that was lovely to read. 😊😊
