    Hey buddy… I notice in your video as you’re operating the drill to spin your brass into the cutter there seems to be some wobble as I can see your left hand moving as the case spins. Is that normal for the K&M turner or could that be a setup issue or a drill wobbling. I know the brass will wobble if not seated properly on the shell holder. Thanks.

      Thanks for reaching out. The press can certainly use for pressing out pins. There is a small hole on the face of the ram that can be used to center a dowel pin. You'll need to come up with fixturing to hole the firearm so it doesn't rock when pressing out the pins.

      It becomes a need when finger/hand pain from grasping cases stops your reloading. It's a good day (and a want) if you don't have pain while holding cases, but a different situation if you do. Twisting an 1-1/4" diameter cap with the palm of your hand is MUCH less painful than grasping 3/8" or smaller diameter cases between fingertips. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

  • @jvalentine8376
    @jvalentine8376 Год назад

    That's very basic . People should make sure they turn the necks down so the cutter just kisses the case shoulder . That way you know you have cut all the length of the neck . If you stop short of that you run the risk of creating a ridge just before the neck shoulder junction that upon firing transfers inside the case creating a doughnut . People who are skim turning for a factory chamber do not need to clean up the whole neck circumference , it's not necessary and it leads to necks that are too thin . Clean it up about 75% and after a few shots it will clean up again a bit more at the same turner setting . Remember that in a factory chamber the more you turn the neck down the greater the gap will be between the loaded round neck diameter and the chamber wall . Which negates some of the benefits especially if the case body is a sloppy fit in the chamber and the round lays on the bottom of the chamber . This situation can also be corrected with partial neck sizing and using body dies when resizing the body and a separate neck sizing only die , Lee collet or Redding bushing . Bushing dies work better on neck turned brass , collet dies work well on all brass however to shorten the neck size length of a Collet die put a steel washer over the case onto the shell holder . This gives you the partial neck size and a slight second shoulder just above the neck shoulder junction . This never gets sized again by the body die or the neck die and stops the case ever laying in the bottom of the chamber and centers the neck even though you have neck turned it and lost brass thickness . You have reclaimed the neck centering better than before turning and the turning improves neck tension , bullet release , bullet seating accuracy and neck sizing precision . I just gave you one of my accuracy secrets that I developed back in 1967 .

    Do you have tool to expand the pocket to the correct diameter? I have tools to remove the crimp, but that isn't the issue. I use a hand priming tool and with certain brands of brass the pocket is just too tight. And I'm talking about 9mm commercial brand brass that has no crimp,. They just won't go in and get crushed or flattened. For years I have used the RCBS swaging tool, and it works OK, but was looking for something better. Any thoughts?

    Great video, cuestion for you please, I already have determined the flash hole size, I'm about to purchase a 0.82 premium . If later on I'll buy different brass as lapua, etc, which has smaller hole. Can i just run the 0.82 through and make the hole bigger? Will this affect the brass? Or will I need to buy a 0.59 cutter? Thanks

    • @kmshooting
      @kmshooting Год назад

      Hey Gustavo, we recommend getting the .062 (or .059) for the smaller flash holes. We dont have durability data on using the .082 to open up the smaller flash holes - this would be at your own risk of possibly breaking the tip (or not). A safer option - if you want to stick with just the .082, is to drill-out the small flash holes with a 5/64 or #47-48 drill bit before using the .082” cutter. We have several customers who do this and found better performance, BUT there are many factors that effect results so we don’t offer a recommendation either way.

    How do you determine which size to get? I am working with mainly Federal commercial 308 brass with

    • @kmshooting
      @kmshooting 2 года назад

      Hey Jon - these likely have the "standard" .080 flash hole. So, go with either the professional .080 or the premium .082. Here's a more detailed response: The flash hole can vary depending on the brass manufacturer and doesn’t necessarily follow the primer size. Many use the “standard” .080” flash hole while Lapua, among others, can have a small flash hole .059”/1.5mm. We recommend checking with a drill bit, shank non-cutting side, to determine which size you have:  .08 flash hole: 5/64” (.0781”) drill bit  .059/1.5mm flash hole: a 1/16” (.0625”) or #54 (.0550”) drill bit Another option is measuring your de-capping/de-priming pin. If the pin is larger than .06” and fits loosely in the flash holes - you’ve got .08” flash holes. We recommend the .062" for small flash holes and the .082" for large flash holes. Here's a little more info: Premium .059 vs Pro/Premium .062 • Premium .059 vs. .062 comes down to opinion: o The .062 will provide uniform hole size for “1.5mm” (.059) flash holes by opening the flash hole by .003” o The .059 will chamfer the hole, clean up undersized flash holes and leave any oversized flash holes as-is Pro .080 vs Premium .082 • The Pro cutter is an off-the-shelf center-drill sized at .080” • The Premium cutter is a K&M carbide cutter o The .082 will provide uniform hole size for flash holes by opening the flash hole by .002” o The .080 will chamfer the hole, clean up undersized flash holes and leave any oversized flash holes as-is

Will that shrink my neck down to the required size in order to use this tool? Thanks for the help!

    • @kmshooting
      @kmshooting 2 года назад

      Hey Jeff, thanks for reaching out! You're correct that the brass needs to be sized for a tight fit on the neck turner pilot. A typical scenario is to first full-length size with the expander ball removed, then use our expand mandrel to open the case neck (pushing thickness variation to the outside), and then neck turn. Here is a link to instructions for neck expanding (before neck turning and sizing for bullet tension). kmshooting.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PowerStroke-Neck-Expanding-Ported-Press-Adapters.2204-scaled.jpg Feel free to e-mail us at sales@kmshooting.com if you have other questions. -Dave @ K&M

    Do you all make a primer crimp removal tool?

      Hey Charles, great question. We don't have one now, but they are on the way - aiming for release before 2023... design and prototypes are done, just working through manufacturing details.

      @@kmshooting if you get bored what would really be awesome is a quick change piece that would hold the shell casing while reaming. I’ve adapted my Giraud Super trimmer to use the RCBS crimp removal cutters which is fast 00:00:08 per cartridge but is hard on hands and fingers.

    Unlike my Lyman flash hole uniformer, this tool indexes inside the web of the case, not its mouth. Smart design. I’ll definitely buy one. I hope they are in stock.

      Hey Rodolfo, thanks for the comment on the design; registering on the case-web provides much more consistent results. We've working hard to keep all flash hole tools in stock (even though they're very popular) and aim to ship next business day.

      @@kmshooting thank you for the reply. I noticed you offer different sizes of tools. Which tool do you recommend to determine the correct flash hole diameter of my brass?

    • @kmshooting
      @kmshooting 2 года назад

      First you need to determine your flash hole size(s). The flash hole can vary depending on the brass manufacturer and doesn’t necessarily follow the primer size. Many use the “standard” .080” flash hole while Lapua can have a small flash hole .059”/1.5mm.

    • @kmshooting

      Hey Boecfus, the fine adjustment is made with the hex adjustment nut. The screw on the face is to lock and secure the cutter in position. Check out the neck turner how-to video to see the fine adjustment and lock-screw in action: ruclips.net/video/d1bVi3MfzEk/видео.html
