How to disassemble and reassemble a fat PS2
Просмотров 151 тыс.6 лет назад
Thx 4 watching! Notes: The PS2 I disassembled in this video is the 39001 model. The laser assembly on the 50000 models are slightly different, but you should be able to figure it out. Also, the clock battery is in a different place on the 30000 and 30000R models. Otherwise, the rest of the innards are the same on all of the fat PS2 models. Green Day-Walking Contradiction Guitar Cover
Please keep in mind that the RDRAM has it's die completely exposed and that something dropping on it can crack it, destroying the ram and bricking the console (although it is technically fixable). _DO NOT ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS._
Through some heavy referencing of the not 100% accurate SCPH-39000 series service manual, I was able to catalog most of the screws, but I'm going insane with only 3 left. ・There should be 8 black screws (labeled in the manual as 17) for the disc drive (4 for the top, 2 for the right metal turning thing, 2 for the side of the disc tray). For whatever reason, I have 9 and can't figure out for the life of me where it went. ・I have two tiny black screws with rounded heads. At first I had three, but then I realized one had a flat head and was meant for the bottom of the laser, not that the service manual mentions this. Other discrepancies include ・Only mentioning one of the screws labeled as 5, when there are actually 3 (they're the black screws with big flat heads that hold down the ends of the rods surrounding the laser and the one on the bottom of the disc) ・Saying that I need a screw labeled as 52 (between the length of the four brass screws that hold in the power board and the five that hold in the top heat sink) for the spot between the Reset and disc open buttons. I did find a screw around this size, but I believe it goes in the top of the case to hold down the piece with the Memory Card flaps and doesn't fit between the buttons at all. I can't find a single picture of anyone's top case from this angle, nor does the service manual mention or show it, so I can't confirm if that's where I originally got it from. At any rate, I had a third screw labeled as B265 (the brass-looking ones that go at the edge on the bottom heat sink along with the 7 silver ones), and it fit between the buttons without issue. ・A screw labeled as 16, called SCREW, SKEW that holds onto the left side of the laser. The manual makes it look like a + screw with a rounded head, but it's actually a very tiny Torx head screw. I've never disassembled a PS2 to this degree, and I really should have taken pictures, but I can now disassemble and reassemble it without need for a guide. It would be 100% if I could just find the locations for those last three stupid screws.
Finally a walkthrough that clearly features the screw sizes. Thanks dude!
what grease are you using for the drive?
@@EvolvedCaveman I didn’t use grease. I believe white lithium grease will work though.
good work
im losing my fucking mind over the ribbon cables, first i just wanted to take it apart to clean the laser because it wasn't reading gran turismo 4, i fucked up the power reset ribbon in the process, i tried reassembling it and broke it. then while reassembling the whole console i think i broke the second one for the memory card and controller, it just can't fucking click, i always have to break something when doing this kind of shit i don't kniw what to even do now
18:00, the copper laser cable. How do I unplug it from where it’s connected to the board. I can’t figure out the plug and already have to replace the cable
What a great video. Really good shown and explained and it's the same model as mine. 👌🏼
Bro, you have this console yet?
mine broke today after 20 years... i wasnt playing anymore and emulators exist but the nostalgia...
nuguderaesNormasdecomuiad🎉
even thought this was 7 years ago it helps me alot
This was a lifesaver for me. I took mine apart like 9 months ago to try and fiddle with the laser. Ending up getting a replacement just yesterday and had no idea how this thing went back together. This is the kind of content that YT is made for. Thanks!!
great video
Awesome, just fixed mine! Thanks for the step by step and the zoom ins etc, very helpful video 😊
The lid fell with the cable and it disconnected itself😂 try it out and see
If you are here because the battery on your ps2 died, don’t get discouraged, if you follow this guide step by step, you’re gonna be able to replace it with no problem. It looks more difficult than it is. Worth to mention that your ps2 might look a bit different than the one on this video, but all models are relatively same, just keep going. Also big thanks to the author of this guide, its great.
6 Years later, your video helped somebody else again. In fact it helped me a lot doing mine, so thanks a lot to you. I credited you in the video description of course 😘
the 1st coin is the hardest lol
I put my PS2 controller back together and it now doesn't work at all. I'm seriously pissed because my controller worked perfectly fine before (minus a little stick drift) and now it won't work at all, no buttons work but the analog light turns on, how tf?
I just attempted this but the power/eject ribbon cable didn't have the blue tab on it so when I removed it so I couldn't get it back in to reassemble it lol. Not sure if the tab flew off somewhere or if certain models just didn't have it? All the other cables had it so I'm not sure. It's a SCPH-30001 R model.
@@jonyoungmusic it must’ve flown off. All fat models (at least in the 3000x-3900x series) have the blue ends.
Thanks a lot bro, I just replaced the battery on my PS2 FAT series 50000, I followed your video completely. Reconnecting the disc drive was a pain because I didn't take it apart. But in the end everything turned out fine.
Gotta give a like. Needed this to find where that leftover screw was supposed to go, lol. Thanks!
0:51 Did you attach that 4.5mm security bit to hex end driver end and unscrew screws? or did you use long 4.5mm security screwdriver that is one piece? thanks
@@lightshine6044 I attached the bit to the hex end driver.
@@FlyingV555 👍 👍 👍
This explains the PS2 needs an ALL Digital makeover without all the fuss and hassle showing why the All Digital PlayStation console rules forever.
What a pain to just change a CMOS battery lol Thanks for the video !
Mine wasn't like this at all. My middle piece is plastic and thus didn't have the plastic tray for the power supply, also my ribbon cable placement was different.
Thanks man, I managed to replace the battery in mine thanks to your video. It's not hard, just a lot of disassembly for something so simple as swapping a coin cell. To be fair though - 15 years in between changes is a long time ;)
Thank you so much bro. Finally got my battery replaced
Thank you for this vid ik how to take any ps console apart I just forgot where to put the long screws this is the only vid that explains it in depth I take all my console apart to deep clean cause to much dust makes any console sound like a fighter jet lol
PS3 CECHL01
I may be in the minority here but my dad used to own a original launch 20GB PS3 fat with PS2 Backwards Compatibilty (The one with a piano black trim instead of chrome silver and no card readers) and funnily enough it never once suffered a YLOD in its life at all and it lasted from November 2006 all the way up to 2010 when the Blu-Ray drive finally stopped reading discs and would ONLY read PS2 games.
for anyone like me who was confused when he didn't reattach the laser cable around 19:00, he reattaches it at 22:54 so just keep watching :p
Upload more good
I bought a 40gb PlayStation 3 at the salvation army for $45 after 50% off made in September 2007 still working
Lucky!
Hi, which one of these ps3 fat has less chance to ylod? Thank you@@unchi1999
Appreciate the vid! A ribbon end snapped on mine and your vid helped me diagnose it. Ordered the new ribbon with your link 👍
Recently my fat PS2 console had about 3 problems, the CMOS battery died, the disc tray was opening slower and the inside of my console was very dusty inside. I took apart my PS2 console and it took me about 5 days to disassemble it all the way just so I could replace that annoying CMOS battery with a new one, I also dusted the circuit board with a soft worker paint brush, Q tip and the fan and then when I put it back together, my disc tray got stuck and wouldn't open and then I had to take it apart the second time when I fixed it I forgot to connect the laser reader ribbon cable so I had to take it apart the third time and then when I finally put it back together, my disc tray worked, the spinning orb animation and clock and date worked and it read my PS1 game. That was a very intense repair job I've ever done and my first one I ever took apart because it's getting harder to find PS2 consoles. I hope the Sony Playstation company will decide to reissue the PS2 slim consoles so we can play the older PS1 and PS2 and DVD and CD discs and even bring back PS1 and PS2 disc games which I hope happens soon.
i accidentally ripped off the fan connector while cleaning it, tried to solder it back onto the motheboard but i just messed it up even more.. now im using the fan with usb but it looks kinda ass ngl. Wanted to solder it to the board or find a better solution can someone help?
You quite literally saved my ass. Thanks for the highly detailed video.
I cried like ten times when i reassembly IT 😮
Wonder if thermal paste would be good on the heatsink and chips?
Bro I would have to suffer 💀
me to
Still can’t get this ribbon cable on here right
18:43 Shouldn't you reattach that ribbon back to the disk drive first?
What model joystick is this?
Pretty dope video.
Awesome video, super great every little detail 🤘😎
I am the only one or My Ps3 Dualshock 3 Sixixis Controller have a blue thing insise on the green thing + The R2 button doesn't come off bc it somehow stings there on the controller back.
I’m having trouble putting the controller port back on
sounds good :)
Pretty cool but you never showed the picture or included in your video. What the main screws were that you took off with the long socket, instrument or tool
