It says in the manual to make cylinder 1 tdc now I’m nervous to install

Looking at dirt tricks installation instructions , i did not saw anything about removing the spider washer , can you clarify on this ?

That’s nothing KTM makes their cams from cheese .. Deny . Deny , Deny .. warranty .. they deserve to fail as a company.

this tensioners from Dirt Tricks doesn't use oil pressure, only a ratched system and a weak spring. If the ratched system fails, than the spring isn't strong enough and chances for chain skipping some tooth are really high. At least if the original tensioner breaks, you do have the back up from the oil pressure and a stronger spring... i read about cases where the ratched system from Dirt Trick breaks, does the companie warrant engine damage for this shortcoming ??

I installed this on my Norden 901 and it actually work pretty good i must say. A lot less of that annoying noise and really easy to install. The star washer was a bit annoying to remove though. Thanks Dirt Tricks to solve something KTM should have done from factory. ✌️💪👍

On your 2024, what's wrong with the OEM part?

Seems to be only mechanic spring system: bad&old technic. The OEM is hydraulic+spring system!

So does oil pressure tighten the tensioner ratchet mechanism or the spring behind it as the chain flexes? also should the tensioner be indexed for the ratchet to work?

Going to install this on my 790 but my reservation is…How is oil getting into the bottom of the tensioner if the spyder is removed and the tensioner sits flat into the cap?? Seems DT should provide a small thin washer with a notch out for oil flow? I guess I’m having a hard time understanding how it’s lubricated sitting right against the keeper/cap.

After removal of the spider washer, I made a small counter sink between the inner wall of the retainer/main body and the taped hole in the middle, this creates a passage way for the oil to the middle of the tensioner. This basically replicates what can be seen on 350excf etc motors from the factory.

my result was not that dramatic. now the chain rattle is all I hear. took video before and after, both sound the same. removed the star washer from the end cap, swapped over the oring, installed tensioner and spring. tightened down. thoughts?

The only issue with the cam chain tensioner is the fact you want to sell your version.

Don’t use a screwdriver to remove that slider washer, use circ clip pliers…

Just installed mine it took 10 minutes. The hardest part was getting that little black washer out the rest was so simple bike runs smooth as butter !! Thanks dirt tricks👍😊

So why did it take you so long to put out a video line this? I don’t remember reading this in the instructions when I installed it, now it’s 3000miles later I can only imagine how much more wear I have now…

The cam chain on my 2018 701 use to make one hell of a noise on hot start up, rattled its nuts off for up to 15 seconds and thats from straight out of the box. Swapped out for a Dirt Tricks tensioner, then all was silent and i lived happily ever after! Yep, the ktm/husky oil pressured tensioner is utter junk.

So you don’t need to set the bike to TDC or anything before removing the old tensioner?

Too tight does serious damage as does too loose.

Caution: The notch in the crank will show TDC for the Piston, the cams still need to be at TDC to prevent jumping. 50% chance if you only check the crank.

I’ve got a 200RR and I love it. As a whole it’s a shame that there are only two companies that make a 200 still. In my opinion it’s the best weekend warrior bike. Nimble like a 125, but a little closer to the grunt of a 250.

Title is very misleading… hardly any riding, no initial impressions, complained/underestimated the bike before riding it, modified the bike to the moon, all while saying it’s great. This was a very weird video to watch.
