Starting Over with My Fitness Journey at 29 Years Old
I put all my healthy habits on the backburner to grow my gaming channel, and now that I've stabilized a bit in my new lifestyle it's time to bring back the habits that helped me reach the discipline required to pull that off.
Starting today, I'm going back to the "workout before each meal" strategy so I can stay productive throughout the entire day while working on my health and wellness in the meantime.
I found it easier to dedicate myself to three 20 minute workouts a day than a single 1 hour workout a day, and found many benefits of doing so as well. I talk about my approach and the benefits briefly here.
This is the first video on the channel that I tried to film without a script, and th...

How America's Public Schools Fail its Students
Просмотров 2433 месяца назад
I've said in my last two videos that people are products of their environments, and this idea extends into their schooling too. On the surface, I had a pretty decent experience within the public schooling system and thrived in it, but I learned that success within that system has nothing to do with success in the real world. I share a bit about my experiences during my school days in this video...
What I Did with My Life at 28 Years Old. Was it Enough?
Просмотров 1673 месяца назад
It's my birthday today, and every year for my birthday I like to reflect on my past year and see if I'm happy with the life I've led so far. I'd say 28 was one of my strongest years, but even so I'm still just getting started. You know you're in a good place when you're aware of all the things you have to do, and rather than finding yourself overwhelmed, you start solving problems one step at a...
Does Your Content Actually Bring Value to Your Audience?
Просмотров 963 месяца назад
"You are a product of your environment, which is why it's important to keep things pushing and to keep things fun." Did a bit of a deep think after uploading yesterday's video, especially since I'm treading into the part of youtube content creation where things get hard. The viral niche that I grew my gaming channel in is slowly dwindling, and so are my chances of continuing my lifestyle as a f...
Does Variety Content Work in 2024?
Просмотров 983 месяца назад
In this video, I talk about whether or not variety content works, and why it's still worth pursuing over single niche content when starting out as a content creator. This is the first video of the 30 day challenge series where I had to cut content out in order to meet the time restriction rather than add to it. I also faced some other challenges that I'll be talking about in tomorrow's video. I...
Making bad content is better for your growth than making good content ever will be.
Просмотров 1833 месяца назад
If the hardest part to any worthwhile endeavor is getting started, then the only thing that matters in the beginning is actually getting started. I intend to prove that through practice. Theory stands strongest when it's tested through application. The first goal for new content creators should be to create content. Quality matters less than commitment and consistency. No matter what your start...
Content Creation is Hard. Knowledge Acquisition is Not.
Просмотров 1263 месяца назад
If you don't know what to do in life, then read a book. That's what I'm doing here. I realized that becoming a "content creation guru" might not be in my best interest, nor would it be a sustainable endeavor. So I'm gonna read books and share what I come across instead. I think I can do that for a long while, especially since I'm directly gaining my own knowledge in the process. I was originall...
Getting Over Impostor Syndrome in 1 Minute
Просмотров 2433 месяца назад
The biggest challenge people face when it comes to creating content is the impostor syndrome that comes with inexperience. The best way to get over impostor syndrome is through practice and review. So I've devised a 30 day challenge to encourage quick uploads where analysis paralysis and perfectionism are NOT allowed. I made this challenge to get over my own inexperience with tackling education...

    Video Editing is too low 👎👎👎👎 Edit the video in a good style. Add nice b-roll animation when you are speaking or explaining something. This will increase visualization. Put proper subtitles, effects, transitions, and colors in the video. Insert the B-Roll (footage and animation) very well because it is absolutely low in your video. Do all this and then see how the video doesn't turn out good. 🍋

    I also hope to be able to do content full-time. Even if it's for work. The problems I face is being able to speak what's on my mind and entertaining myself when I do solo runs in Lethal. Even simple advice can help.

    I'm trying to currently pick up a better workout routine at the moment as well, so I think this is actually a really, really inspiring video. I really want to take the time to thank you and let you know that I first came across your Sheff Austin channel on your first few Lethal Company videos. I've been fairly actively watching since and have really taken a liking to your content. I'm going to try and also make my own little gaming channel - something I've wanted to do a while. It's fairly early in the morning where I live at the moment, so I think I'll start my day by taking a walk. Thanks, man.

    Actually a very captivating video, I didn't really realize how early your entrepenurship started. This is probably a good lesson for people that got shot down, we don't "lose" our creativity when we're older, we just don't ever challenge it or tap into it when we live montonous lives.

    Awesome! Make a video about low attention span! Maybe even about entering "flow state" for better productivity. It a very big issue for a lot of people nowaday, especially when they are trying to do something they really like, but just keep interrupting themselves on something else. Main idea - dopamin detox, awareness of what happens around you, and ability to concentrate on one specific thing for a long time. There are a lot of people on RUclips who explain the "Flow state" pretty well (can't post link in the YT comments). You can combine those with your personal experiences to refine your own idea on it! Good luck with the challenge🤞

I'm literally just about to start working towards building a platform for myself, on top of some other life progression steps such as a part time job and studying for my permit/license. I like that you said that you started listening to podcasts and education videos just to put yourself in the headspace first. Or rather to build a habit of learning it seems. I think that every time I try to start doing self-help stuff that helps me educate and further myself, I end up stopping because I'm not fully comprehending what they're saying. I get very in my head about it. This example might help explain what I mean; When you're not accustomed to reading and you finally pick up a book, you start thinking not about the words you're reading, but the fact that you're reading a book. I think a few people can resonate. Basically I just end up thinking "wow im being productive" without taking in anything. But like everything, it is a skill to listen, it's a skill to translate the words from an educational piece into something that you can comprehend. So I'm starting slowly, trying to be the best self I can be.

    Great video mate! I've always found it hard to niche down with my channel, cause I love playing such a variety of games and always want to share my experiences! But it does always feel super scary changing from something that's working, but like you say it's so much better to take that risk than burn out.

    • @sheffaustin
      @sheffaustin 3 месяца назад

      I love seeing people try new things, because to me it shows that they’re willing to experiment outside of their comfort zone. Or if they haven’t found their comfort zone yet, that they’re willing to explore their options until they find it! As far as changing the formula away from something that’s working, the workaround that I’m using is to add my experimental items to my output rather than replace what’s already working with them. So for my gaming channel, I’ve uploaded twice rather than once in a day when I was field testing a new game, or with this channel how it’s not interfering with my ability to upload on my gaming one. It’s a lot of work but it does make it feel less scary to try new things out!

    • @sheffaustin
      @sheffaustin 3 месяца назад

      I didn’t mind being shown on screen reading the script, I was mostly cutting out space between talking points. Felt appropriate to leave it in for this particular case 😂

  • @aokaydrian
    @aokaydrian 3 месяца назад

    Great message! Some constructive criticism on your edit, leave some space between reading (before you start reading your next line so you start saying it once youre already looking at the camera) so that when you cut its not so obvious that your head isn't looking at the down on one frame and jerking up on the next frame. Imo, the ideal would be to have you head be in a similar position throughout the edit even if you have to pause to read throughout the video and are obviously cutting. It's just less visually jarring.

      I appreciate the feedback! It was an intentional decision for this video though to drive the point of bad content home. I’ve found that one of the harder aspects to learn when making videos like these is making eye contact with the camera while trying to remember what you’re supposed to say, and it’s one of the challenges that has stopped me from uploading in the past (not just on this channel either). So in the spirit of “just uploading” I decided to forego that particular piece of friction and upload anyway. That said, this is a great example of feedback I wouldn’t receive if I didn’t post in the first place. If someone who doesn’t know this tactic posted the same way I did, this might be the first time that they even heard of this information, and it could be something they start working into their videos as a result
