    • @nextstopstapleton
      @nextstopstapleton 8 месяцев назад

      I originally planned to include a lot more, but I'm afraid I was unable to, one of the first things they say is to not record the guides or give away the content of the tour, which they own the intellectual property of now! This means that when they lose access to the building no one else will be able to do this specific tour, and it sounds like they have plans to try and still use the tour content in some way. It might be worth contacting them, the exit to the tour is all on the street level, so they might be able to accommodate you by entering that way. There's one room up some stairs you wouldn't be able to see, but the rest of the tour is all on one level apart from 1 step, which depending on your disability and any aids you have, might be navigable.

    The problem with media is that they take one picture out of context, and write a story about it (unfortunately it happens everywhere, only to make political statements and create hate)... carnival itself isn't racist, discriminatory, ... everybody is welcome (and I think you could see that). And yes, we laughed at Jews, but especially at Jews who have no humor, believe the media without doing research first, and use carnival for their own benefit. The ordinary Jews I know have no problem with it, in fact they like it. Many carnival groups even support oppressed groups by, for example, incorporating it into their theme. There are 3 categories for the permanent groups: small, medium and large groups, each group has its own winner (there is also a winner for the individual groups).

    • @nextstopstapleton
      @nextstopstapleton 8 месяцев назад

      I know exactly what you mean. I entered this carnival uncertain as what to expect, aware of the controversy surrounding it. And certainly saw nothing while there. Making me feel it was important to address the controversy in the context of both what I knew was being said, and what I had personally seen. It was a very eventful and fun experience, I certainly enjoyed my time there.

They also have the largest collection of Polar Bears 6 males and 2 females that are kept separately. I really enjoyed this visit with you. Sorry for the bad weather. I'd have expected a lot more people there, though. What do you think is the longest camera lens length one needs to get some nice closeups?

    • @nextstopstapleton
      @nextstopstapleton Год назад

      I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Even with the weather I still really enjoyed the visit. Camera lenses are such a difficult choice, debating the zoom you need, weight you're carrying, and if you need a tripod. I personally use a 300mm lens for my photography camera, I get some good shots with it, but I'm considering getting a 600mm lens as well. My only concern is holding it steady, at that size you start to need a tripod, which is fine in a location when you plan to stay for a while, but if you're regularly moving it more inconvenient. So I'd say if you're concerned about weight, and want to go mainly tripod free, I wouldn't go more than a 300mm, but if you're happy to use a tripod, then a 600mm will be amazing in a zoo. If you're into wildlife photography then 900mm would be amazing, but as much as I'd love one, the cost is a bit much for me atm 😆

    • @Goldberry2007
      @Goldberry2007 Год назад

      hi, Darren. thanks for you fast reply and thoughts on the lens. I much appreciate it! I take it from your zoo expert advice that the lens can't be long enough. (I'm on mft and own the 100-400mm which translates into 800mm ff. It's not that heavy, thank god. So I will bring it and the tripod and hope for few people, too.) I am visiting for the shoebill and the pangolin. I can't wait to see them and all these amazing animals that you walked us to, as well.

    • @nextstopstapleton

      @Goldberry2007 fantastic to hear. I hope you have a great trip and get some good photos. Feel free to drop me a message after your trip, I'd love to hear how you got on and see some of the photos you get. I definitely think you can never have a big enough lens, there are certainly pros and cons both ways, but it's always annoying when an animal is just that little bit too far away for a good shot. Shoebills are such incredible birds, but pangolins are just adorable, and so special. A species in such decline, here's hoping they can be saved.

      It's behavioural research, not experiments. It's so we can better understand animal behaviour and welfare, and therefore be able to give them more appropriate environments in zoos, having more successful breeding programs, better understand the species as a whole, and be better equipped to help and hopefully save their declining wild populations.

      Do you mean the research animals? I'd appreciate you watching the full vlog if so, as I explain how the research works. It's completely optional for the animals which is amazing. If you mean zoos in general, then zoos are making huge leaps in ensuring natural environments and welfare for the animals in their care, and without zoos the extinction event we are currently living through would be even worse. In many cases the gene pool and breeding programs in zoos are the only thing keeping species from going completely extinct. And zoos contribute huge amounts and sometimes even run sanctuaries for animals to be released in to increase the wild populations. We as a species are doing huge amounts of damage to this planet, and zoos are a big corner stone in reducing that damage and turning things around, through education, conservation work, breeding programs, and release programs.
