I am just a mediocre musician that loves unusual instruments. Lately I have been trying to learn how to play a Farmer Foot drum. It's been a lot of fun and people seem to dig the videos.

Badfish on the Farmer Foot Drum

Badfish by Sublime. I am using a basic rock beat on the foot drum. I think this is a good example of what the kit can do if you are interested.
Farmer Basic Rock Beat version 2

I put a video a while back about how I thought I would do a basic rock beat. It didn’t really end up working for me. This is my work around.

Working on getting a basic rock beat down. It’s still pretty rough.
FARMER DRUM WITH RIDE

I bought a cheapo ride to see if I could make that work. Not in love with the tone but it's a good proof of concept.
My new Farmer Foot Drum

I just got the Farm Foot Drum in. If you are interested in one go check out the website. www.footdrums.com/. Pete only makes a few a year, they're expensive, and there is a wait. It took 6 months to get mine but I think it was worth the wait.
I want one lol
Very cool, nice show here.
Imagine paying three grand for something and it doesn't matter which pedal you hit, you always hear the snare 😬😬
Ain't no way in hell you gonna play guitar, sing, remember lyrics and work all that!!
Yeah that's true. But I am not really an amazing singer or guitarist to begin with. I am not a professional musician. I just do this for fun and I can tell you that it's real fun to play.
Its great and all, but the price is pretty out of reach
cool, now play bleed
Give me a few days practice and I am sure I can get it.
i remember this sht lmaoo
i want one
What diameter is the snare
After using the footdrum for awhile has it held up any complaints
I’ve always been curious about the farmer foot thing but the snare approach is so counterintuitive to me…
Awesome sound, Judson Adair. Thanks for sharing!
That’s cool
Good Job...Nice to hear a square-neck Dobro
Tune the snare please
Very cool
Love seeing your progress from the first video of your kit! If you're still playing it I'd be curious to see where you're at now and how smooth it's gotten
It's gotten a lot better. Work has been super busy but I will try to put something up soon.
I SO appreciate you uploading a video of yourself as a complete beginner with one of these kits. I just discovered them and fell in love but realized most of the videos out there are of professionals who've already done extensive work to incorporate it into their set. Seeing someone who hasn't built up the muscle memory yet is far more realistic for setting my expectations when I pull the trigger on getting my own kit! Interested to see if you've got any videos now that you've got a couple years with it under your belt so I'm headed to your profile to check 😁
If you don’t mind me asking. How much was the drum?
You can see the pricing on footdrums.com. Mine was $3200 I think. With inflation the price probably went up since I got mine though.
Gotta save up
GIVEWAY?!
Very Cool.
Crazy idea: pre-record your drum tracks with a drum machine or loops and focus on the guitar playing. Because even for a live performance, all this complicated foot drumming is COMPLETELY unnecessary.
Cam Cole, Jordan B. Wilson, and other similar musicians would disagree with you completely. This is a bit of a foolish comment if you ask me. Just playing a pre-recorded drum beat over your guitar playing is fucking lame... with this comment you're basically saying "just do it the easy way, don't challenge yourself and use more of your brain power". Why would you even think something like that? You basically just said "it's unnecessary to challenge yourself". Lol! Ridiculous. Is it also unnecessary for me to play piano and beatbox at the same time because I could just record the beatboxing separately and play that recording back alongside my piano playing? Lol! I'm not gonna be lazy like that and let technology do the work for me... I like a challenge. Besides, doing the percussion parts live (and I mean completely live, not recording them into a loop pedal or playing them back on a sequencer or backing track) means that every aspect of the music is completely live, giving me total musical freedom, a kind of freedom you don't get even with "live looping" technology. Seriously, comments like yours are plain ridiculous.
I bought an extra kick for my electronic drum and plug my snare into it
It’s great to see creative, inventive minds at work but in this case….keep thinking 🤔
Too bad it doesn't mute the wires when not playing the snare. Makes it unnecessarily noisy.
How much was this whole rig?
There has got to be a way to isolate the gut in the snare and keep it from vibrating when you use the other stuff in the kit. Maybe tighten the gut and use gaffer tape somehow? Anyway, i do similar stuff to this on a full kit with the kick and a slightly opened hi-hate. I find it best to strum the eighth notes in a measure and using the kit to hit the bass on the first (and second sometimes) note and let the hi-hat act as a snare on the twos and fours to accent. The strumming negates the need for a pulse that would probably drown out the chords given the volume of those tambourine bells. Just what I do.
I tried to contact this farmer foot drum builder. No response. Such an awesome instrument. Wanna sell yours?
He just takes a long time to respond. Each one is custom built and take a long time to build. Mine took six months. I would hit him up on Facebook. There is a also a Farmers Footdrum group on Facebook and occasionally someone on there will want to sell one. I don't plan on selling mine.
@@judsonadair9218. It’s a great build. Revolutionary. Good job jamming on yours!
Great job, man!
Gostaria de saber o nome Dessa Bateria em Pertugueis se Souber me informar fico muito grato!
Good job!! I like it!
Cam Cole is the World king of the farmer Foot Drum
Bro, Is this drums has to set up by buying several parts? Or is it a full set up? TIA
You buy it mostly in one peice. You have to add your own cymbals but that is pretty normal for any drum set.
Wow! Your coordination is amazing and it looks so effortless. Hope to hear and see more👍
Holy crap, those are expensive. But if someone is willing to lay down 2.600 for the tiny one why not go for the really big one, I guess. I wish you lots of fun with that funny machine.
That looks like work! Is that even fun anymore? I have a horsekick, and it`s fine I guess, but that?
Yeah it the most fun thing I own. Did you ever play in marching band as a kid? Learning stuff on this is kind like learning a marching band show. It’s part playing the instrument and part dance.
@@judsonadair9218 well since you asked, I played the Saxophone. But I dabbled in drums. I might order me an e drum set, and I kind of eyed a floordrum set. So, may I ask, you play Guitar at the same time, right? And that does not get a little hard?
@@judsonadair9218 complicated? Or exhausting?
@@MrSocko-bh1jb Yeah I play the guitar and sing at the same time. And it is an adjustment but the way play is actually very much like marching. The basic beat is right foot bass, left foot high/snare at the same time. So you are basically walk in beat. Adding fills and such are kind of like adding different steps in a dance. For me I always loved playing with a drummer in a rock band setting but I don’t get many opportunities to play with people anymore. So this let’s me play with a drummer at home by myself.
@@judsonadair9218 Yeah, I saw that. still... I just started playing again. For now, my horsekick and my drummachine/effectpedal/looper will do. Oh, and I just got a samjam for my acoustic guitar. I am busy for now, maybe someday... ;-)
I watched all your Farmer drum videos and I have one question. Shoes or no shoes?
I play barefoot most of the time. My feet are fairly large (size 12). With shoes on it can be hard to only hit what you want to hit. Plus it is just easier to feel your way around.
Wow, it such a short time you have gotten that farmer to do great things. Good job!
Nice work here, and great song choice.
just because you can doesnt mean you should
Why?
That is a very clever device, I've not seen anything like it
Give Def Leppard’s drummer 5 minutes with it 😂
YOUR SHOES ARE CRINGE
Def Leppard drummer is interested
Cool... what do these run. Guitar is easy to learn. To start fast, drop D . U can play right away and just learn chords and how to finger them as you go. With drop D you just need ONE finger lol.
Attach triggers midi map or gaming console foot controller and play drums too
Might be a nice and useful, but pretty complicated tool for a one-man band. I guess it's invented by an American who prefers rubber dolls to real women ;-)))) A bit less ironic/sarcastic: Regarding the features I'm sure this thing is not a bargain and it definitely needs lot of practice time. So, in the end why not go for the REAL thing? A REAL drumset is too loud? Buy some mufflers or change to recorder.
The issue is getting a real drummer to show up. Every band I have ever been in broke up because we lost drummers and couldn’t find a replacement. The last band I was in with a drummer finally called quits for good when the 3rd drummer in three years quit. I have been playing with the same bassist for over a decade but never played with the same drum for more then 18 months.
If i was at a pub and somebody started playing an accoustic guitar AND this thing, I'd leave.
You probably wouldn't leave if the performer was great at it though. There are performers out there who play this thing quite well, probably more of them than you realize (probably more than even I realize, for that matter), and the ones I've heard are quite good. Cam Cole, for instance. If you like rock or blues music, then you might like Cam Cole. Plays this thing while playing guitar and singing at the same time, and he makes it all sound great. If there's anything about this that is shit, it's the performer. Not the instrument. Blame the performer instead of the instrument. Even shitty-sounding instruments can sound great when played by a great performer who knows how to make something great out of it.
@@justinnaramor6050 good points and all true. Just kitchy. Not my bag probably because I am a drummer. Hahaha.
The other snare pedal hit on the & so you can do rolls I believe. That's what makes since in my head right now
