Kimbo Bull terrier 4 months with Pitbull
what is that freaking tone
Is it all the same scale what he played
You just need to learn basics, and that is bunch of chords, some scales, and to know notes on the guitar, to be able to realize how the chords are created from those notes. To know where you are, and you will actually know how that sounds. You wont touch "bad" notes, cause you actually now that those notes does not belong there, or it sounds bad.
....and then I wiggle my fingers and feel it out. Tend to come in before the bar live and do a handstand after throwing picks at the audience. Most successful guitarist ever. Yeah, like that.
Is he talking about Steve Stevens at the beginning?
The greatest lead guitar work you have ever heard is mainly in the pentatonic scales etc. the art is phrasing within those parameters. It’s what makes you, “you”…
“Play Stairway!!!” 3:09
I love how he calls the pentatonic scale "the rock scale." That is the most accurate way I've heard it explained. And his way of playing with feeling/emotion but can't do it as well when he trys to be more technical is exactly how I am. His concept on taking the pentatonic scales and just adding a few different notes to get the different feelings/sounds is the same way I have always approached my lead playing. The only real difference is Slash is WAY better at it than I could ever hope to be.
lol, first part of the Stairway solo at the end there!
GOD !
Ah, the sound of silence. 😐
He's the Guitar God but not the God at teaching guitar
I could listen to Slash all day, everyday, ans still not get bored. And I'm only talking about listening to his interview and tips. Ofcourse, his songs Incan listen to for decades 🤘
0:26 - Steve as in Steve Vai himself?
Show Gostei 🏴☠️⚡🏴☠️ .
Those who can't teach, play.
Understandable

what he is saying is that all he plays are the pentatonic shapes with chromaticism. the rest of the video he is just trying to hide how simple his approach really is. He's no dumby. Not a knock on him at all just the truth. He shows you (study his tabs after learning these positions; penta and blues scales are the two he is refering to) and you'll see that he uses those scales his whole career masterfully. Look at the November rain solo for example. 1st position. Look at civil war main riff open position penta. look at don't cry solo, again mainly all pentatnoic. even with velvet spectacle solo etc over and over. how he gets so much music out of these scales is incredible and shows how truly inexhaustible music really is. Imagine if he delved into modes at some point...like prince once said regarding modes, the possibilities are endless. Think about it - 12 keys and 7 modes...that's alot of potential music. Not to mention the man made melodic and harmonic minor keys. What slash does right imo is that he actually MASTERED something instead of getting lost in the inexhaustible. Hence the intro slide K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid)
And this is why you don't take lessons from slash. Because only slash knows what slash is talking about..learn your scales boys and girls and if you want to play like me, forget the scales and add these modes in where they don't belong. He's the only guy that can pull that off
he doesn't seem to know a lot about theory, that's why he has a hard time trying to convey his process while making music, but you know what his work is way more iconic than anything from malmsteen, vai and satriani. ps: I like a one or two solos from steve vai and despise pretty much everything that malmsteen did, you wanna see scales, listen to malmsteen there's nothing there but scales and real composers' melodies.
That wouldn't be Steve Via would it Slash? You're a much better guitar player than him if it was. He plays fast with his fingers and knows all kinds of tricks. He doesn't have any soul, feeling or groove in his playing. You play with your heart and soul and feel what you are playing. I'd say you are more in the lines of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Kieth Richards, Jimmy Page, Leslie West, Billy Gibbons, Pete Townshend, Robin Trower, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Rickey Medlocke, Angus Young, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Perry.............. Never cared for Frank Zappa, Steve Via, Joe Satriani, Yingwie Malmsteen, Orianthi or any of those types of players. They are all speed and fingers with a bunch of tricks. Sounds like crap to me in my head.
What?
How slash explains how to play guitar: "Just learn some rock scales and if the moon aligns with the sun than play some flat 7th into that scale so you can get that minor 4th to vibrate long enough for you to have time to go after that minor # 7." Amazing guitar player but an awful teacher 😂
I promise you will definitely understand the whole video once you learn music theory
after watching this for 8 years from time to time now i understand little more
Cheeky bit of stairway there at the end
Imagine hes your guitar teacher
2:50 Is tehere any chance to have a tab? 😅
Says fig.1. Is there a place to see the tabs for this?? Thanks.
GREAT now I can play like Slash
Great example of someone not caring much about or being super knowledgeable on the deepest ins and outs of music theory, but still being able to play at master level.. You can tell he's playing all sorts of spicy stuff including very tasteful pentatonic and blues licks, Dorian, mixolydian, etc, etc.. He doesn't get hung up on the names of it all but still plays it very tastefully.. I myself have spent aeons studying scales and modes and it's nice to be able to put names to the shapes you're seeing and the sounds you're hearing but the holy grail is just being able to PLAY it. I have seen people say Slash is overrated for using too much pentatonic same with Kirk Hammett, but yet their solos sound very pleasing to the ear because well, pentatonic are often the best harmonic choices to build your phrases around.. These guys don't have to be pros at theory, if they just sound good.
The best players play by ear, not what a music theory teacher told them to play.
Best guitar player ever!
Matter of opinion
check out gary moore.
He referenced Zeppelin 5 times in 3 minutes.
Page is the template for all hard rock
Who is Steve?
I play guitar. Understood him perfectly. Don't know what people are going on about.
I know a lot of scales but can’t play with Slash feel and it drives me crazy.
Was this recorded with a hot dog bun??
I agree with the consensus that to get the most out of this do the following: Learn the music basics from a teacher for beginners. Once you got that down return to this video to guide your music.
🔝🔝🔝
who is that steeve he's talkin about?
He seems to know a little more music theory then you would think, I'm sure if this interview was an hour long you could really pick his brain
everything he plays sounds so SLASHY! AIUEHAEUHAEIU I MEAN IT!
Tabs ?
wut
I'm convinced this particular Gibson he's using is an 88' Tennessee one. The finish on that guitar is so remarkably similar to mine. I wish he'd have turned the headstock to the camera so we could confirm.
Hilariously bad teacher if trying to learn. Interesting as a fan tho
Which LP is he playing?
He's fast alternate picker
lol'd...
"something like that, u get it" I'm like no!
2:11 you know what i mean, right?🤣
Just enjoy the fucking Music, this guy is great!
