The Non-Dualism of Shankara: One Thought That Changed the World Forever
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.28 дней назад
We all live by some philosophy or other. Warwick Jessup has attempted to live by the philosophy of Shankara, non-dualism. There's a story. Once Shankara was walking through the market place with his followers. A man had a cow and was leading it by the rope. Shankara asked his followers, 'Who is the master here? Is the man or it is the cow?' They all replied, 'Obviously, it's the man.' Shankara ...
💎 Waterperry - Discover the Hidden GEMS

Waterperry House and Gardens was mentioned back in the Domesday Book. In 1972, the School of Philosophy and Economic Science bought Waterperry as a place to host retreats. Retreats included (and still include!) periods of meditation and study. But house renovation was also part of the philosophy students' programme; this included reroofing, extensive redecorating, as well as renovations to buil...

Kenneth Douglas explains how philosophy has helped him by bringing a sense of calm. Meditation has helped wash everything away, so as to start fresh every time. Meditation wipes away thoughts, worries and allows freshness, it gives a pause in the day. You can learn from a lot of different sources in the philosophy course - and discuss and learn from each other. One thing to consider is, how do ...

The Gift of Purpose: Svadharma Explained
These videos are very good to see but - Mr Lambie is making serious points in videos like this. The twee 'soft focus' music background is the wrong choice as backing. Thanks for reading.
Small is Beautiful is a WONDERFUL work and highlights the necessity of distancing an economy from top-down, mechanistic, distant bureaucracies. His work is akin to that of Chestertonian, Bellocian distributism. In short, to baptize work in humanity rather than to plunge it into the cold waters of the corporate, nationalism and international bureaucracies of top-down economics.

Hello from NJ
Hello there!
You are existence? People are forms.
Interesting.
Naughty testing by the wise; is this an aspect of the teaching? Would the teachers of the school follow the idea of mischief, take this rope cutting trick to develop school teaching? Testing with naughtiness to teach wisdom? Necessary and unnecessary action to perform or not. We don't have to be prompted into action even if it is freed from some mental tie ups. Just consider as Self beyond action, but mind ready to act if necessary?
Thank you 🙏🌞
"The word of the Lord came to me, saying, Before I formed you (body) in the womb I knew you (consciousness)." "You (consciousness) must go to everyone I send you (body), and you will speak whatever I command you." (shared consciousness) "Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth." (shared consciousness) -Jeremiah 1: 5-9
Great comment - thanks for sharing.
Practising it regularly. Such a support to being awake
Great to hear!
8:30 i never thought that my favourite adi shankara would have used humour in his works , but it is logical because writing most of his works he was a teen boy.
Great talk, unfortunately the sheeple won't get it😢
Umm, the steeple or the people? Either way, thanks for watching.
Love that your talking about Mary Oliver here. I'm new to your channel and have just now subbed. I guess the algorithm is pushing me Mary Oliver content as I just posted a video about her book, "A Poetry Handbook." Thank you 🙏
Welcome aboard! This video has got a lot more viewers over the last 3-4 months, so we're delighted to have new subscribers too!
@@Philosophycourse Love that it's evergreen like that. I have videos that gain viewers over time, too. Growing quite rapidly now. Do you have much intersection between poetry and philosophy on here?
Hi @nathanhassallpoetry, On Philosophy Live on Friday mornings, we have a couple of presenters who feature poets with a philosophical angle. Have a look at Robin Mukherjee's Lives for example. Great to hear of your success too!
@@Philosophycourse That's great to hear. I want poetry and philosophy to be synthesized more so it warms me to hear when there's collaborative engagements out there. I'll be making some phenomenology and poetry videos soon enough. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing the intrinsic spiritual knowledge behind this very common Indian gesture 🙏 Namaste dear friend 🙏🙏
Thanks for this great comment - we hoped it would make this ubiquitous phrase meaningful!
It would be good to hear from someone with a different perspective, Bjorn Lomborg for example. Nonetheless, a very good presentation. Thank you.
Great suggestion!
Thankyou. Beautifully shared….
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.
Enjoyed the video and your beautiful smile. Not the funny faces and sounds. What you said doesn't need gimmicks like that in my view but perhaps others enjoyed them. Thank you.
Hi Dawn, Thanks for your comment - we are constantly reviewing how we make videos and have stepped away from using emojis now. You may still find one or two in videos queued for release though. Thanks for watching!
Mr Richard Glover in his introduction of you gave the example of a chicken can't lay a duck egg, from your recent book. This was absolutely fitting to the climate change topic. If chicken is the world. And duck the source from where the chicken comes from, We seem to agree on that but when it comes to trying to solve the problem, What is noticed is ,rather than staying in the source we slowly slide down into the world and try to solve it. Examples of one washing machine very helpful but it cannot be done from intellect level,it has to be done from source level,( intuitive) level this holds character and spirit, and thus reject the ego which loves the untuth of opposites ,rich poor ect. Loved and agreed with all that was said. But conclusion can only come when man , world ect becomes consciousness consciousness 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for all your thoughtful comments.
NO economic system will fix the world-all your Marxism was tried inter alia in the Soviet Union and South America and it FAILED DISMALLY. Human Nature is the root of the problem and it knee-halters ALL economic systems. China adopted State Capitalism because MARXISM IS A DISASTER! -- now they are back to de facto Chinese imperialism with Xi Jingping as the Emperor and the Triad gangs as his Mandarins. Thier economy grew by 99 fold once they opened to the 'Evil West' go figure.😢

That's fascinating but the recording really needs to be edited to take out the unintended stuff at the beginning and end.😂
Thanks for watching. RUclips takes time to process the videos, so we're only able to edit them the following day. I hope you are seeing the edited version now. We'll ask presenters in future to spend less time before starting.
7:13 starts. Really should edit these videos.

You're most welcome. Great to hear it's working for you.
I had what I would call a glimpse. An Awakening experience. Perhaps the most amazing aspect was the astonishment at how I never recognized what was so obvious now and had always been. It was alike a humongous Cosmic Joke and I was laughing so hard I almost pulled a rib muscle.
Is there any way I can reach out and grab that thing? 😁 Aum Shanti. No greed. No greed. Cancel greed.
😂
Thank you. A lovely analogy ! 🌟 🙏
Oooh thanks for the great comment Barry!
Thank you Warwick ! 🙏 😊
You're very welcome!
What a beautiful human being talking from beautiful being 🙏
Thanks, Warwick. Concise and informative.
You're very welcome - thanks for the kind comment.
Its not Shankaras philosophy its Vedanta philosophy from Vedas. Shankara himself was a vedanti, he single handedly demolished buddhism ideas by preaching vedanta philosophy. Also reestablished Sanatana dharma (Hinduism) in India which was once plagued by modified Tibetan buddhism. And no he did not just preached non-dualism he equally valued dualism as well. Has done written numerous works like Kanakdhara stotram promoting both ways. Do full research dont just cherry pick.
Philosophy is love towards truth not love towards thought.
Fair point. As I'm sure you know philosophy literally is love of wisdom!
@@Philosophycoursewisdom based on knowledge and experience….knowledge based on change observed by sensors( eye, ear etc) and experience is also change….universal consciousness is unchanging one….
Each soul is making decisions on their own how they can be false
Universal consciousness unchanging? So how do you account for the Creator?
Thank you. Beautifully clear and concise. 🙇🏻
You are so welcome!

Sankara's philosophy is universal and will appeal to all regardless of religious following
We certainly hope so!
Thought provoking content and very nice presentation. A lovely getaway space to clear one's mind and to meditate is the Drakensberg mountain.
The Drakensberg is a very special place, agreed!
@@Philosophycourse A hike it is then!
Just listened to some of this Master Teacher's talk and my feelings are as Sir Isaac Newton once wrote I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.
That's a favourite quote in the School too! Thanks for posting it here.
Ah ! i didn't know that ! 🙏 @@Philosophycourse
Amazing
Thanks - so glad you enjoyed this video.
Many thanks to the school for making this talk public 🙏😊
What a beautiful human being ! 🙏
Who is the sage in the framed picture on the wall in the background?
Sri Shantanand Saraswati. ❤
Correct!
Very simply and clearly illustrated. Sankara got it right; as did Spinoza.
Thanks very much for this great comment!
There's wide difference between pantheism and non duality.
the best part is last 10 minutes of the video
