"I didn't do it." Alex said helplessly as he was thrown at the kings feet. He looked up at the king face but it was fuzzy and unclear. The days with little food and water had taken a toll on him. "Your majesty, we have brought the man who has killed your father. " A guard said kneeling before the king. "I didn't-" Alex tried to say but another guard punched him in the gut. The king got off his throne and walked towards Alex. "Let me see his face." The kings cold voice echoed across the room. The guard who was holding Alex hoisted him up by the collar. Alex looked into the kings eyes and froze. The king froze too. "You-" Alex said. The king clamped a hand on his mouth. "Leave me and the traitor alone! " The king barked. "But your majesty-" "LEAVE! " The guards rushed out of the hall not wanting to further anger the king. Alex fell to the ground in a heap. "Aaron." He croaked. The kings face cleared and a familiar face appeared before him. The dark curls that fell on his pale face were too familiar. "Hello brother. " The king said smiling. "Aaron! Thank god! You believe me, right? " Alex croaked trying to shake the iron cuffs off him. "Oh yes. " Aaron said but he just stood in silence ignoring Alex. "You'll release me, right?" "Really Al. " Aaron said bending down. "I knew you were naive but i didnt expect you to be that stupid." He said chuckling. Alex felt a wave of dread pass through him. "No." He muttered in shock. "Did you expect that i would sit around doing nothing while you were on a 'quest' and not take my opportunity to become king? " Alex tried to stand up but Aaron immediately pushed him down. The feeling of betrayal spread through him like poison. "So your father. He was-" "Our father, yes" Aaron said calmly. "The old man wouldn't die so i just sped up the process. " Alex was shaking. "But this isn't our kingdom." "Yes, well i knew you would come back one day. " Aaron said standing up walking towards the throne. "I didnt want the people to recognize you so i just got some new people. And now. " He turned towards Alex. "You've just made things so much easier for me. Once you are executed I'll rule with no one in my way. " He smiled like a psychopath. "Guards! " He yelled. Alex knew he should have felt sad but his brothers coup had left him numb throughout his body.

"Get your hands off me!" I yank my arms against the hard iron grip of the guards, to no avail. I failed to assassinate the crown prince. A crime only punishable through public hanging. In the back of my mind I think of Karl; the only friend I had made during the scavenging on the streets. He would still be waiting for our weekly meeting in that same spot, at the marketplace. My eyes stung. Suddenly I am brought to my knees by the guards flanking my side. I realize it is because of who slowly walks towards me- the prince himself. I grit my teeth. Then I see his feet. Black leather shoes, with a sleek finish and an intricate emblem. An emblem I knew by heart. _He_ was the crown prince. Him. Who I bantered with, joked with, playfully teased and schemed together in the dark shadows of the alleyways. I slowly look up. He mirrors my expression: Shock. Horror. Betrayal. He opens his lips. Hesitates, for a moment. Then utters a single word, as if it is all he could muster. _"You?"_

tbh the idea of using a love potion doesn't sit right with me. You're essentially drugging someone into loving you and that's not love. At least in the ways this trope usual goes down

The guards kept pulling and pushing me around the city, leading me to the castle that always towered everything. We arrive at last, the doors that led to the throne room were huge, as it then opened. The guards force me to go towards the throne, looking up to see the supposed lord. He looked... familiar from afar. Dropped to my knees, the guards talk to the oh, so, dearest lord, who I didn't look at when I arrived to kneel. "This woman has done unforgivable sins, my Lord." The guard said, holding the handcuffs that held me. "What has she done?" The lord replied. Where have I heard that voice before..? "She has stolen our greatest weapon yet, and threatened to murder you." The other guard responded. Why would I even do that?! Having enough of this nonsense, I look up at the lord who ruled over us. "Eclipse?!" I yelled. The Lord, Eclipse, widened his eyes, as the guards then slapped my mouth. "Don't you EVER talk to the Lord like that!-" "Let us be." "B-but, my Lord-" "Did I stutter? Let. Us. Be." The guards feared of what Eclipse may do to them, and immediately left us alone. "Well... what have you done now, sweetheart?" Eclipse chuckled, leaning down to me to cup my cheek with his hand. "Nothing. I was just going about my day." I responded. My mouth felt like it bruised. Eclipse's hand moved to my mouth, brushing it softly with his thumb as his expression softened. Learnt it from my mom a long time ago." He didn't seem too convinced. Just as I thought he was catching on, he grabbed the glass and drank all of it, chugging it down, surprising me. "W-Wait, d-don't!" I yelled, but they had finished the drink by then. He wiped his mouth and smiled at me. He looked at me with the same glare he had always given me... "A nice attempt." He said calmly, before softening his gaze. I was taken aback. "So you... know... what that was?" I asked, scared that he would be mad. He kept his shit eating grin. It was starting to annoy me. He poured more tea into the cup, this time it didn't have the love potion in it. "I know how to restrain myself, love." They said calmly, making me blush softly. I hadn't expected the pet name. I avoided eye contact, covering my face softly. I heard a soft laugh. "You make it so obvious." He said calmly. I looked over at him and I nearly thought that I had been the one that drank the potion. "Sorry." I mumbled out. He didn't say anything, instead just giving a smile. "If I can hold back feelings for years, I think I can resist a love potion for one dinner." He said, making me blush further. It felt like it was getting hotter in there. "S-So I went through the effort of getting that for nothing...?" I asked, glaring down, a bit ashamed and embarrassed. "Look, if you wanted to be my boyfriend you could've just asked." I jumped at the comment and my heart started racing slightly. I looked down at the ground and started fidgeting with the table cloth, quiet. He just smiled when he saw how nervous I was. "I've liked you for a while now. Glad to know that you feel the same." He began drinking the tea that he'd poured into his cup. "Now, as much as I'd love to stay, I'd hate to be pining after you the whole dinner. I struggle enough as it is without the love potion." He looked at me before turning to grab his back that had been hanging on the side of the chair. "I'll see you tomorrow. Bye, sweetheart." I was extremely confused. He had been speaking so casually and I couldn't help but be a bit flustered by it. I watched as he left my house, not saying a word after that. I'm not sure how I expected this night to go, but it certainly wasn't like that.
