Learning how to use a Heli-Torch
Come with me as I learn how to use a drip torch first the first time, slung beneath a Bell 407 to create a backburn on an active fire while the winds were favourable.
Backburning is a fire suppression technique used in the control of wildfires. A backburn is a fire lit close to the edge of an active wildfire, which burns out the fuel between the wildfire and an established control line. The removal of fuel halts the fire’s spread, providing suitable conditions for firefighters to finish suppressing the fire.
Talking me through the process in another nearby helicopter is the supervisor of the active fire.

Setting up a Remote Camera on Fire Patrol
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 месяца назад
Remote cameras are used to overlook fires that aren't of high concern in times of limited available manpower and resources. Remote cameras are installed onto a high vantage point overlooking the fire and any infrastructure at risk if the winds or fire behaviour were to change. With no lives or values at risk in the this far north, these fires are encouraged to burn naturally while being monitor...
Mountainous Hover-Exit
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.2 месяца назад
The most useful things about helicopters is their ability to land almost anywhere. Even when a full down landing cannot be completed due to the intense terrain or nearby obstacles, a Hover exit or Toe in landing can be attempted. On this day, a bunch of geologists wanted to get dropped off as close as possible to a particular rock formation they were interested in. This terrain was far to steep...

How to move a Diamond Drill with a Helicopter
At first I thought this was just about hiking, when I suddenly spotted the parked helicopter in the background
Napalm is back boys on a serious note the US should be held accountable for their numerous documented warcrimes
Now thats livin
Who needs a killdozer when you have a drip torch...
So this explains all of the health warnings I see on the local news in Minnesota from Canadian "Wild" fires. 70 years ago, and 4.5 billion years before, this was not necessary. Weird
70 years ago these fires would have a better chance of burning down a village.
Fuel, mixed with some kind of jel, hmm I wonder if there's a Vietnam era name for that 😅
Everyone knows rotors make the best clotheslines XD
Literally fighting fire with fire
Thats the kind of silence i need
That's what its all about right there
This thing is right out of a Just Cause game lol, great video and flying skills dude.
"flammable snotty like substance" would this happen to be commonly known as napalm?
No Its jellied petrol Napalm has other ingredients
Really cool video. Ditch the music and it would be awesome. Aviation videos make their own music!
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter
How about a crop-dusting setup? Tons of Bell 47s with that setup.
You have pretty good office, you know
Would you recommend these for home defense? Asking for a friend...
Sounds like a good plan to me if you have the time then In joy the environment.
my 12 year old me is fascinated
What type of accent is that?
Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi
“Im a pyrot” “A pirate?” “A pyro pilot.”
In before all the climate-change-denying-nut-jobs show up to call this proof that gov'ts are lighting fires....(and technically, they are, but this is a back burn, not the type they wax about)
dude’s got the attitude that makes for a long and successful career.
underrated channel fr
bloody good vid man looks like an absolutely fun job
Nice black jet ranger.
Good job, not falling prey to the completion bias!
Thanks, this is really interesting stuff. Sadly, we have all the evidence we need to know that suppression of wildfires only makes them worse.
Right on brother.
Fly higher than a powerline maybe?
What’s this “boot” he keeps talking about?
“Maybe I can push it “. Famous last words of dead aviators
Holy shit… talk about skill mannn! I never knew “bush pilots were a thing until now ive been dying to fly, helicopters seem so much scarier to drive then a little Cessna but mannn to hold it there on that ridge made my heart pound 🤣 Cheers mate be safe out there
WTF is wrong with you people telling him how great his decision was. He is flying a fk'ing Helicopter, power line should never be a problem because you don't fly so close to the earth. Now if he is not IMC trained okay don't fly in fog but the power line should never be your fear if they are your doing it wrong. what are you flying below 100 feet or something WTF. How about you just take up to 500-1000 or higher no power lines up there.
You’re 100% right, I shouldn’t be flying around down that low, hence why I parked up. I appreciate your input tho buddy.
Where is this located? Cool terrain
Good! Be safe...relax and have a peaceful moment with nature.
What do they do with any unused fuel? Can it be saved or do they dispose of it?
Great decision to park + amazing view.
So fly higher?
Guess you missed the whole video lol
@@jessikahmunro explain?
@@kove_toast7573 … do you not see the fog? Yes he could fly higher to avoid any type of line, but he’s still in the fog 😂😂
@@kove_toast7573 Plus not only the guide lines of flying itself, you need to be in specific boundaries, under and over a certain height, etc..
@@jessikahmunro ok he's got 3 miles 😐
I wish Kobe’s pilot was like you
If you can't hover don't bother...
Its so odd hearing 500 meters to a mile as a American hahahah but I understand it tho
Nawr way that accent is from the Yukon.😂
"snotty substance" basically Nepal 😆😆
Many years ago I had a customer that was a F16 pilot. He said it was like flying a video game....plus the G's.
Would you happen to know how different it is to get a helicopters license from a private pilots license? I have my PPL but I also want to get a helicopters license
Not trap the wild life with no escape route?
Environment.
quite literally fighting fire with fire
I appreciate the detailed artistic schematic to help my toddler brain understand the strategy :D
