Are You Fat-Making or Calorie-Burning?
Канада
Добавлен 25 янв 2020
These videos will share the tools and strategies you need in order to enjoy sustainable success with your fat-loss and weight-loss goals. Videos will discuss the decisions only controlled by you and the resulting reactions only controlled by your body. I am 74; I lost 40 lbs in my early 60s and kept it off. I got rid of my belly-fat and my arm-fat; and, I can buy any clothing I want. I want you to start your journey-to-fitness NOW. Consider these statements - maybe you're not eating enough to lose weight, eating fat-free foods does not mean they are not fattening, food is a powerful hormone drug, maybe daily treadmill running is not the most efficient way to lose body-fat. Want explanations? Watch this series of informative videos. If I could do it in my early 60s, so can you, Bev.

Metabolism & Weight Gain
1. How the heck is your metabolism related to your weight?
2. What is catabolism and what is anabolism?
3. What sorts of exercise represent catabolism or anabolism?
4. What happens to your metabolism as you age, and why?
5. How can you counteract the metabolic effects of aging?
6. How can dietary protein intake help, and in what quantity?
Check out my book "Are You Fat-making or Calorie-burning?"
It's full of this sort of really interesting detail on your biochemistry and its direct relationship to fat gain or fat loss. I did a lot of research during my 19-month journey from obesity to fitness in my early 60s. You may as well gain from my time at the library.

Thanks.
No problem. Happy that you enjoyed that video.
Well said....think my Dr needs to watch this
Thanks so much. It really is a summary of what is in my book. My doctor loved my book. Thanks so much!
Keep the good work up❤
Thanks, it's a challenge keeping these videos short in length 😅
Thank you for your positive assessment. It is sometimes difficult to convey such information in a short timeline. But often I find, people won't listen to longer videos. Do have a productive week, all the best, Bev.

Welcome back Bev! About half way through your astounding book “are you fat making or calorie burning”. So powerful I will give my full review soon!. What a brilliant investment your health is for situations like this. 🏆
Thanks so much. That book took 2 years of research, writing, and editing. I appreciate your analysis. I am glad that you're reading the chapters as they build upon themselves. Do have a productive day.
Wow! You really are amazing! I'm impressed. Can you do a video on how frequently we should eat and how much protien is right? I know as an older woman I dont digest food as well as I used to, and some people don't or can't eat 5 meals a day. Is that really necessary?
I love the way the cap was worn backwards 💜💜💜
haha, must have been my mode that day...
You look really good , I enjoy looking at you
Oh thank you!
@@areyoufat-makingorcalorie-8041 it’s been a longtime Bev how are you ?
By now you should be fully recovered , I really don’t like it when you ride that thing .
2:05 10%! Wow. Personal trainers increase the success rate I’m sure, to think the success rate is still that low.
Yes, it is disappointing. It's hard for a lot of people to really make changes that are lifestyle changes. It's a continual battle
Yes, hard but l try to remember that many have to deal with far worse medical situations. Mine has an end date. Have a great vacation.
Thanks Bev, and you’re right, have really put things into perspective.🙏
absolutely
How often would you hit abs per week to strengthen them?
Maybe 2-3 times, after your other exercises
Good to know it isn’t the end of the world if you miss a month of gym…I imagine it’s variable how quickly you get your strength back but still!
On my side l had a ski accident on Dec 21st and have been bedridden ever since. The orthopedic doctor says that l can't do any weight bearing until March! My guess is that l won't get back to the gym till April so it may take me 5 weeks to get my strength back 💪
@@bevmerriman2305 agh sorry to hear about this, wishing you a speedy recovery! 5 weeks to regain after 5 months out is not so bad, your mind - muscle connection must play a part in this. 💪
@@bevmerriman2305 I will be missing 2 weeks later this year while abroad! Will be following the 85/15 healthy / cheat food split and sounds like I’ll be ok. I thought I replied earlier but RUclips hasn’t shown it. Get well soon, all the best with your recovery I can imagine it’s been hard for an active person.
Thanks for the good wishes. I did indeed get better, in fact just returned from a 3 week long motorcycle ride across Canada and back via the northern States. Health is everything in life!
@@areyoufat-makingorcalorie-8041 happy for you Bev! I had no doubt you’d be back and firing on all cylinders. I am still consistent with my gym lifestyle very much following your principles which finally got me results. Health is wealth 💪
Great vid thank you. Is it true that the sauna helps with this process of MPS?
I have read that but I don't subscribe to it. Saunas can dehydrate some people, and muscles have 75% water content. And even if it did, it is simply not enough when compared to the hypertrophic affect of lifting progressively heavier weights in the gym. If you think it is a substitute, I believe is not feasible.
@@areyoufat-makingorcalorie-8041thank you 😊
I have bought your e-book will take it in asap 😊
Thanks so much. I have done a lot of research, but it involved many books, etc. I just thought it would be easier to put it all in one book. A book that is easy to read, and is not like a PhD thesis! Let me know if you learn from it.
Great video - very enlightening
I am thrilled that you learned from that video. I always try to make my videos informative. Unfortunately I have discovered that many simply can't listen to longer videos.
What do you think about skipping?
Well, most certainly rope skipping is a great exercise. Especially for your heart muscle (cardiovascular benefits), bones and general flexibility. It uses a lot of joints which is great. That said, you must add weight lifting to challenge the muscles with more stress than usual.
I eat 80g protein and weigh 185lbs. It is hard to eat 1g protein per lb of body weight, are protein shakes / powder adequate to help reach this goal?
Yes, protein shakes or bars (I prefer the Quest brand) will help with the protein intake.
Thank you very much for this reassurance. I really trust your wisdom on this topic! I am making my way through your book and feel like a scientist 🤓. Will share thoughts once finished
Great vid- thank you. Out of the two choices presented, strength training please as I understand that aids fat loss/burning anyway
Yes, strength training with progressively heavier weights over time is an excellent fat loss route. Still so some cardio, steady state or HIIT
That was great!
Thanks so much for you comment. I appreciate the time taken to do that. I try to reduce topics to their basics, as I do in my book. No point in presenting a doctoral thesis!! haha, Do have a productive day, Bev.
Thank you for the information. Wish you a great day.
Thanks for your assessment. I am thrilled that the video was of some use to you. I just did one today on macros when drinking milk. You many find it interesting. Do have a productive week, Bev.
Thank you for this video. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate the time you took to send that message. Do have a productive week, Bev.
So question, does that mean the unfit person should not do long bouts of cardio to avoid losing muscle? does that change when you add weights to cardio (i would presume not but thought i'd ask)?
Sorry about not responding earlier, just seeing this now. OK, the reality with cardio exercise is that you need oxygen to break down fat for energy. If there is insufficient oxygen, then the body has to get energy (oxygen) from somewhere. That's when it turns to stored carbs (glycogen) in muscle tissue to get that energy. Unfit people are just not oxidatively fit and so they can't use respiratory oxygen for very long. Additionally, an unfit body will cause increased cortisol stress hormones and they are fat-producing!! They should build up more muscle, which translates into more energy-producing mitochondria in their cells.. Also the myoglobin protein, which moves oxygen from your bloodstream into your muscle tissue, is increased through anaerobic weight-lifting exercise. LIft weights 80% of the time, and od cardio 20% of the time (do the cardio after weights so that you have more energy to lift heavier). HIIT works well to help stay aerobic on cardio machines. Hope this helps!! Bev.
You need to make some videos where you work out! You look great and you are a great inspirational source!
Maybe one day! Thanks for your positive assessment. I see so many videos of people exercising that I thought I would try something different. I guess I could do some at the gym, but if I am talking and describing an exercise while I do it....I would probably have to get someone to video me.
Great information!!!
Thanks for your kind assessment. My goal with these videos is to relay useful information in an easy-to-appreciate way. Have a great family-oriented day!!
*Promosm* 😱
The more exercise you do the faster you will age, just look at professional athletes, they are already old in their thirties, exercise creates stress in the body.
Yes, often they do appear older. But that is not because their bodies have aged. It's related to the fact that they have a much lower body fat percentage which leads to less facial fat!
Low carbs for me. Can't get rid of it totally.
Ensure that you eat some carbs for fibre and glucose. Otherwise, you will get constipated, and your body will break down fat and amino acids into glucose. I wish you the best in the body sculpting war.
Mabuhay from Philippines! 🇵🇭 You are impressive. I appreciate your video.
Thanks for your kind assessment. I have been on holiday, but I will get doing some videos this week. Have a healthy day and consider buying my book. Most videos are based upon it.
Best omega 3 source is algae and seaweed, like kelp. It is where the fish get the omega 3 in the first place. Skip the middle fish (and the mercury) I say.
Thanks for your helpful input. Have a healthy day!!
You are awesome
Thanks, l am just trying to make the complex a little simpler to understand. Same approach l take with my book. If you lose weight gradually, it is much more sustainable.
Im doing a diet that is made up of complex carbs high fiber moderet protien but my fats are super low so i was wondering if i added udos oil to get my fats how much should i add i eat a diet that is 3500 calories
I would suggest that you consume about 25% of your daily calories from fat. They click in at 9cal/gm.
Which one do you use now?
Eating a lot of smaller meals
I came here from Your response in Quora, and I must say this video is one of the most educative I've seen. You just got a +1sub
Thanks so much for your positive assessment. My husband cancelled my Quora access by accident. I only see the odd question now, a bit frustrating as I can't figure out how to access my account. oh dear, this is so inspirational... and you are right... I'm not that committed or willing to put the effort, but I know I only need to stick with it for a couple of weeks, then it becomes a habit

@@areyoufat-makingorcalorie-8041 🔥 YES!!! So you pretty much didn't work out for 60 years? And once you started, how did you have the ability to make a commitment? Can you make a video on that?
@@HelenaSummer Bev mentions in another video, vanity and looking good in her clothes was the source of her movation. We all need to find our “why” because it’s not an easy path at all
@@Parissolemn Yes, I get it... Not easy but worth it!
@@HelenaSummer yup and not wanting to lose the money she was spending on a personal trainer and gym that helped her too. Good luck! 🤞
I can't believe you are my mothers age.... she is fun and wonderful too, but you have "that something" that one gets with strong workout habits. ...and I was thinking I'm to frail and too late for me!
It's NEVER too late. That is what my channel is all about. People seem to give up, but as you age, the building of muscle will lower your fat content and it will make you feel so fantastic. And you will look younger. I only opened to the door of a gym at the age of 60, and had reached my goals in 19 months. I am now 75 and still opening that door. I love it.
