Are Royal Enfield Releasing Too Many Bikes?
In this episode I go in depth to discuss RE's latest release, the Guerilla 450, and whether it even feels like a Royal Enfield, as well as showing their release output from the last 8 years in a timeline to discuss whether they're releasing too many bikes at the moment.
Is it time for a breather? Are we getting release fatigue?

    The more models the better! RE is just making up for lost time due to RE india having basically ONE model from the '50s to 2016, not counting the Lightning or T-Bird which are still Bullets. I think it's exciting and I'm counting the days until the Guerrilla is unveiled

  • @lokeshkalburgi
    @lokeshkalburgi 21 минуту назад

    Indians have traditionally been, and are still largely commuting-only riders, do you feel this is RE's attempt to introduce different styles of riding to the subcontinent? With riders like CS Santosh, and the recent Rally 2 winner Harith both showing how accessible MX and adventure riding can be, I feel as though RE is just setting their base for bigger and more powerful models in the future. Totally agree about Release Fatigue 😅

    Some good points Wesley. I agree it would be great to see a well engineered big single 500 or 600 that could achieve higher road speeds. Is a new classic 650 a classic 650 when it's a twin ? I don't believe so. The thing that put me off another enfield was the service intervals. For a country where you can do over 10000k a year, enfield should be focusing on longer engine service with reliability rather than new bikes that need 5000 k services . 👍

    • @wesleyjames.
      @wesleyjames. 2 часа назад

      Thanks for the comment Ian, yes I think the true "Classic" of the line up is the 350 & 500. For me the service intervals would rack up quickly when I lived back in Auckland, as I would commute 50+ Km a day. I believe they may have increased them this year, I need to double check :)

  • @HdtvTh
    @HdtvTh 4 часа назад

    They can't really release any engine, other than single and twins due to regulations. There is a market for straight four carbureted, bare bones neo retro bikes with the late 90s style, sadly this is never going to happen, even tho bikes like the Bandit and Hornet are still hugely popular second hand. It's a sad state of affairs, we have 3 ton SUVs with special emissions loopholes, but we can't have motorcycles that barely register in the grand scale of pollution.

    As long as they can keep the quality up I say release as many styles as they can to appeal to as many rides as possible. More and more people are wanting smaller displacement bikes. They also aren't very popular in the States just yet. I'd love to see more of them on the road. They definitely bring a different style to the market that none of the "big" manufactures are doing.

    That being said, I am dying to see a 500 platform revival, everything in the market seems to be screaming an opportunity in the faces of RE, and they would be stupid to not capitalise on a market they defined. This could even be used as a platform to revive the retro Himalayan as a Himalayan 500, to give the old Himi boys something to cheer about, while still being a meaningful upgrade.

  • @kruzerblade4740
    @kruzerblade4740 10 часов назад

    I think the entire point of the 450 line is to be Enfield's gateway into appealing to modern tastes with more modern machinery, while not touching the 350 and 650 lines, allowing them to keep hands on both sides of the niches. Unlike triumph which made the decision to completely go full premium, and change their 900 and 1200 bonneville series into liquid cooled modern machines, which consequently skyrocketed their prices, and made them lose that retro, air-cooled charm, Enfield chose to keep the 650s as faithful in feel as possible to the original. That being said, they know that they need to appeal to modern markets the same way triumph's modern motorcycles do, if they are to continue expanding as they desire. The 450 platform should serve as exactly that base, for more modern machinery, having their own niches for their target audience, without having to sacrifice the essence of the 350s and 650s charm. Imagine what a shock for the industry it would be, if Enfield suddenly announce that all their motorcycles would henceforth be liquid-cooled and dual overhead cam modern engines, just like triumph did back in the day. I think the decision to create a 450 lineup is perhaps the best decision enfield could have made for both modern and retro-aligned motorcyclists. But again, that's just my take :)

      I think that might be the best comment I've received on this channel, well written and informative. Love it! I think I'm against the design of the Guerilla, it's not my style, and doesn't feel like a R.E per se.

    Nice review! Pretty fair I would say having done 43000km on the Interceptor touring all over Europe and having a go on a friends Bonneville.. I agree, in twenty years time I'd probably like to see the Triumph in my garage BUT the Interceptor is hugely capable with a few mods.. suspension, gearing, better chain.. I don't find the front brake bad at all but it's common to criticize the back. It is not in my opinion a learner bike ( no bike above 400cc is) and it's a bike that many owners won't part with irrespective of the price. The Triumph was really good but I remember saying to myself at the time..'this is good, very good... but not good enough to warrant changing'

    Hi Wesley another absolutely super video thanks so much for filming this I’ve been looking at a bike to replace the Tenere 700 I got for my dad as motivation to get through his stage 3b/4 prostate cancer (currently just recovering from an operation in hospital) an it’s the Triumph 400s caught our eye. Currently on the modern front I own an 1150gsa which I’m parting with so we can sell our house and downsize to the coast over here in the uk. In the past I’ve had an 865 which we both rode, 300 rally, 390adv x2 one mine. A one dads 411 Himmy an a slew of 1200’s vstroms a super bikes an a ex iom tt race bike. I think it’s awesome to see some lightweight bikes coming onto the market for experienced riders to a the Triumph addresses a lot of the complaints I had with the other bikes. Itl be interesting to see if we end up going for the street scrambler, t100 or one of the 400s in the end it’s great to see some more manageable bikes coming out, if you don’t mind me asking what’s your inseam? Even if it's fairly expensive here in Brazil, I'm seriously considering the Speed 400 as a first bike over the 30% cheaper Hunter 350. Lighter weight should make it easier to handle, an engine that will keep up on the highway just fine (I'm heavy, and my city is bizarrely bisected by a major highway), liquid-cooled to handle the constant heat, and most important for me, it's a bike that features a full range of safety features- ABS on both wheels *and* traction control. LED headlight, assisted slipper clutch, inverted fork and an adjustable rear monoshock are a delicious package, too. Of course, the fact that it looks gorgeous, both stylish and elegant, also goes a long way. Just waiting for a demo model to test drive. Duke 390 offers a similarly feature-packed package, but I don't have a dearlership in town... And it doesn't look anywhere as good.

    Two Great Bikes, we are in the new Golden age of Motorcycles 😊 i just liked the endfield from the moment i first saw it, the Continental GT has been so good with vary few personal modifications. The Torque hits like a classic 750cc.

    I chose the 650 over the Triumph rationalizing that with the $ saved I could also buy a Himmi. Interesting you have two bikes that are similar. I've got 4 bikes that couldn't be more different yet still feel I have 3 too many. Leads me to believe I must have 4 distinct personalities. For that reason alone, joining a club is out. 😄

      @wesleyjames. Месяц назад

      Haha, I'm in the same predicament, I'm eyeing up the new Himmy's, but want a modern classic as well. I can't fit 2 bikes in my garage so thinking a 1200 Scrambler would tick both boxes...?

    I've never thought much of the New Royal Enfield Interceptor as I have a 1976 Yamaha XS650 that, at 48 years old (I bought it new), is noticably stronger and better handling that the new Enfield I tested a few years back. I drove my Vintage Yamaha 650 to the shop for the test-ride so it was a real back to back experience. What attracted my attention that day was not the Enfield but a Triumph T120 on sale for $10,000 USD. After 4 years of ownership I have crowned the T120 the best bike Ive ever ridden (which includes the 100hp BMW F900 XR I bought for my son-in-law that same day). Apropos of the T100. I might add that if it's possible to beg, barrow or steal a few extra dollars (US, Canadian, Kiwi; any dollars you can come by) the T120 is a worth while upgrade of the T110. Pretty much the same bike in every way except for the bigger 1200cc engine, 6-speed box and beefed-up brakes. With from 25% to 30% more power and torque pulling the same weight, it's quite a rush.

      Thanks for your insight, I've heard so many great things about the T120! If you watch my earliest T100 review I discuss my next bike will most likely be a T120, or 1200 Scrambler! Thanks for watching

    Service intervals in India for the interceptor is 10000 kms or 1 year. Are you sure that it is 5000km in NZ?

    • @wesleyjames.
      @wesleyjames. Месяц назад

      Someone recently commented that it's been moved to slightly higher intervals here in N.Z, but I used to work at a RE dealership in Auckland and it was definitely 5000km intervals.

    Nice job. I bought a T-100 new in 2013. I’m 61 and it’s my first street bike. I hadn’t ridden any style bike since I was 14 years old until this one. I hope to ride it here in the states from Alabama to Maine starting in mid August. It just turned over 76,200 miles today. It’ll be close to 80k miles when I start that trip. It’s been an awesome bike so far so I believe it’s up to the challenge. Hopefully, I’ll reach 100k miles on it in a few years. Maybe I’ll buy a new bike then, probably not 😊 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these bikes. I may buy a RE in the future. Nothing wrong with owning more than one bike 🤘🏻😎

    I’ve recently traded my FJR1300 for a T100 and I love it! The FJR was a fantastic tourer and very quick but every time I’m on the T100 I just smile and enjoy, like I did when I first started riding as a kid on old trail bikes-it’s just fun!!

      It's mainly that I found the 5th gear to be irrelevant, when shifting up to a higher pace you go straight to 6th gear on the motorway. The T100 revs way lower and only has 5 gears. Hope that makes sense

    You forgot the fourth decision criterion longevity. There is a tube comparing a 20 year old triumph to a 10 year old RE. The Triumph came out without rust which could not be said from the RE. Nicely done though!

    I have both. A 2021 T100 and a 2022 Interceptor 650. I was enjoying the Interceptor but it has blown its gearbox. Thankfully it’s under warranty however it blew end of Feb and the Auckland Dealer took 6 weeks to give me an appointment to assess then getting parts in means it’s off the road until July. This has destroyed my faith in the brand and the bike. As soon as it’s repaired it will be sold. I just got the T100 and while it costs 1.5 times the Enfield it’s more than 1.5 times the bike in all areas including quality of components. You do get what you pay for. If you can afford a T100, get a T100 otherwise yes the RE650 is the next best thing.

    To be fair, the T100 has been refreshed since your 2018. It's brakes and forks were improved and the bike is 9lbs lighter. Great comparison vid, either are fantastic choices.

    Video is great a thorough review of both motorcycles. Not agree with interceptor 5000 km service intervals if you read manufacturer manual its not mentioned liked this and most of the community following it. Can you elaborate about 5k km service intervals. Thanks for a great video

      I worked at the RE dealership in N.Z, and here in Australasia it has 5000km intervals. But I believe this may have changed recently...
