DIY 48 volt DC diesel generator! Testing results!
A quick follow-up on my homemade diesel fuel and generator made from an old washing machine motor. I had a few unexpected issues and lower output results than expected. Watch the video and see what not to do! Lol, I'll have to order a new microphone and make some improvements to the generator. Thanks for watching!

    Neat setup... I saw a comment about increasing the air hole size to increase the airflow for a hotter, cleaner blue burn, have you tried this? Also, how about funning the oil feed inside the air pipe and bringing it out at the base or the air pipe, central with the burn slot? Bit tricky to set up but could be more efficient as the waste oil would be more evenly distributed over the burn area.

      @hughscarlett1231 I have made some modifications to get some blue flame, I haven't achieved all blue yet. I tried the oil line in the air tube but always ends up plugged with burnt oil. I have my outdoor boiler setup that way,but it has a powerful blower that keeps the oil line cool enough. That runs 24/7 for about 6-7 months. I have a couple of videos on that as well. I'm on year 4 with no issues. I'll do an update video on this burner soon. I have been using it in my outdoor fire pit. Thanks for watching!

    i thought what an awesome idea its a learning process pleased nothing was damaged but a successful demonstration of cleaning used oil i saw on a youtube channel how you could easily clean cooking oil by using gelatine mixed in warm water and mix it with the cooking oil the next day all the impuritys are gone and you just tip out the clean oil and afterwards pull out the set gelatine and throw it away super simple process and i thought if it works for cooking oil it could work for engine oil so i was going to try it i am in the country so have had to order the gelatine in But your process works really well and people should be recycling used oil for diesel vechicles or just for burning or heating and your oil burner works awesome Thanks for sharing

      There are two 5/ 16th bolts that hold the flange together and two 3/8th bolts that bolt both flanges to each other. I'm not sure if that's what you are talking about? These flanges are meant for exhaust systems. They are a repair flange for the pipe to manifold connections, and your exhaust system gets just as hot if not hotter. I would say the flanges are not an issue as far as safety. The rest of the process is far more dangerous! 😆 This is in no way a how-to video.

    I've gone through a couple of those blue grid-tie inverters with limiters over the years. I discovered they hate the AC being disconnected while producing power. I'm out in the middle of the desert so the power tends to go out for ~30s periods a lot. They sit next to my workbench out in the garage, and one time when the power went out one of them made a loud pop with an internal arc flash and let the magic smoke out. Another time I switched off the breaker one of them pushes power through to take it offline and move it, and the instant I switched off the breaker the same thing happened again. Disconnect the load or its CT clamp first and let it go down to 0W and then disconnect it. I went to a hybrid inverter that can go off-grid mode back in 2019.

      @car2069 These aren't cheap and I don't have them angled for summertime, I use most of my power in the winter for heating, so they'll perform much better when the sun is lower on the horizon. I'll do an update video then. I will be buying commercial panels for my next array. These are just convenient, local,and perform better than their specifications. I realize this video doesn't show that, but I have seen over 2200 watts, and I only had 18 panels up. This is my first experience with solar,so I started small and kept adding as I could afford them. I assume you are using panels from Santan Solar? I also like the fact that if I have an issue, I can walk into the store and handle it the same day. It works great for me for now. I've also never seen a commercial panel meet or exceed its specifications,but I'm fairly new to solar. Do you have any recommendations for an exceptional commercial panel?

      @@karlsoffroad i buy pallets from Signature Solar. Santan screwed me and didnt ship the fight quantity, then shut down the georgia location and stopped answering. Signature has better prices and if you time it right free shipping. All commercial panels are better and will outlast HF junk. Signature even sells similar 100w panels for like $49. I have Qcells, Silfab, and Sirius. I’m gonna drive down to South Carolina and pickup a pallet of panels from KB Solar. They are an awesome local company ive seen a lot of youtubers installing.

      @@car2069I don't have any local distributors, so shipping is usually about 500 on a pallet. I will try to catch the free shipping deal in the future! Thanks!

      @@karlsoffroad even if you have to pay, sell off single panels on fb marketplace, criagslist, etc. people want them and are willing to pay a premium. I was paying $120 per panel and selling for more than twice as much.

      500 on a pallet? lies. no way. 1.74 in x 500 would mean the stack is 24 feet tall.unshippable. plus the weight would crush the bottom of that stack. better to just admit you're wrong and delete this video

      @MAKESHIFTFARMs make sure you turn on the throttle before you try to prime and start it! Lol,I made that mistake. I had no issues after I realized that controlled the fuel pump.

      @MAKESHIFTFARMs If diesel is pumping out of the line at the injector, it should fire. I know you have to pull it pretty damn hard! They have a ton of compression. I only set the throttle to about 25% when starting. I'm still using my homemade diesel in mine, and it runs awesome! I'll do an update video soon.

    awesome setup. I was thinking about just doing vertical panels on a south facing shed with a couple on the roof just to power the shed and test out.. I've looked at the harbor freight stuff for a small system and it seems like you're pretty happy so with those panels.

    • @karlsoffroad
      @karlsoffroad Месяц назад

      @spyghetti I'm definitely happy with them. They will definitely produce much better in the winter. When angled properly, they make over 100 watts easily. I'll do an update when the seasons change and the sun gets much lower in the sky. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks Karl that's pretty cool. What does your connections look like? Are you just back feeding through a breaker in your panel?

    • @karlsoffroad
      @karlsoffroad Месяц назад

      @Superduty_59 Yes,I have two CT sensors installed on the main L1/L2, so I can run in limiter mode,zero backfeed to the grid. I had two grid tie inverters,so I could cover both,but they keep failing on the DC side of the board. I have two dedicated 20 amp breakers in my panel to feed each side.

      @greggoryleblanc1024 I have 2-120k btu heat exchangers, one in each building. I'm not sure what the rating is for the one I used in this test. 80-100k I would imagine, very similar in size.

      Do you think I’d need to get 50 gallons boiling or would less water be ok. I’m only trying to heat a 30x30 insulated space

    • @karlsoffroad
      @karlsoffroad Месяц назад

      @greggoryleblanc1024 The water doesn't need to boil. The heat exchanger ratings are based on a water temp of 180 degrees Fahrenheit, so if the water is going to be cooler than that, get an oversized water to air heat exchanger.
