What I do as a Cloud Security Engineer
I always felt that. Now i stick to 2- 4 hour youtube courses. Its realistic than the 24 hour ones
I am a laravel developer, can I combine my laravel dev career and cloud computing career simultaneously? I hope it wont affect my laravel dev career?
turned the video off as soon as you said "won't be as many eyes on your code" and "you won't be working with seniors" like wtf 🤣
I want to study cloud security, can you provide me some guidance
Great content
Very interesting the world needs you guys especially us girls, these boys make great boyfriends
Say welcome to GPT, no need to be worry about codes anymore as long as you know what the code does.
@andrew roy, my role is network security engineer (firewall., ltm and proxy )right now in support role, I wanted to enhance my skill , kindly suggest some best way/course
we have a discord in the description of this video. I'd join there and post a question with some info and we'll get you an answer!
Very interesting field that I am definitely considering. What kind of salaries have you seen in this field?
Really depends on your geographical location.
@@AndrewRoe how about your own salary progression? Did it take a while to hit 6 figures?
@@Falcon8856 no it did not, I hit it after two years in the field.
What about web development
that's an option for anyone but not something I discuss here.
Do you feel that being a full-stack developer would make one become "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Tooling and ecosystems for each domain (frontend, UI/UX, backend, DB admin, CI/CD, Cloud) is so vast that it seems impossible being on top of all languages, frameworks, APIs, SDKs, tools, best practices, new cloud features, IaC tools etc. I think specialisation in one domain is better in the long run, regardless of the domain.
I don't believe so. In full-stack teams you usually find that you specialize in something. For example, I'm "Full Stack" because I can do all but I specialize on my team in backend and infrastructure.
@@AndrewRoepls what is the best stacks/programming languages u needed to get a good job in fullstack. I just thought fullstack is such an old stuff. Maybe I’m wrong
@@okahiaemmanuel19 idk what "old stuff" is. But, full stack is just a concept, it means you can build applications from top to bottom. I think Typescript is a good language for full-stack because you can use it on the frontend and the backend.
Hello Andrew, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out to you regarding my career path. I'm interested in working in cloud security and I'm seeking guidance on the best course of action. Do you think it would be beneficial for me to start as a cloud engineer and then transition into cloud security roles? Or would you recommend going directly into the security path? Currently, I have knowledge and skills in Python, Linux, hacking, networking, and other related concepts. I'm also in the process of learning SOC 1 & 2 to deepen my understanding of cyber defense. Once I complete SOC, I plan to pursue the AWS certification. What do you suggest? Thank you, and congratulations on gaining a new subscriber! :) My final question is: Is it better for me to start with a cloud engineer position and then move into cloud security, or should I directly pursue a career in cloud security? I understand that cloud security is a specialization, but is it necessary to begin there, or am I mistaken?
I think being a generalist in the beginning is the best path until you learn what you gravitate more towards. Talking to like minded people like those in our discord is helpful too! Sorry but, I can't answer which one you'll like more. Trial, error, and exploration is the best option. Stick with it!
thanks for video i want to be cloud engineer i am software developer with 3 years experience now i handle small part of cloud
Best of luck!
Coming from law enforcement field, I’m confused on which steps I should take to start in cloud ☁️ 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏽♂️? Can someone help please 🤷🏾♂️👏🏾?
I have a video on this but first just go on AWS and poke around the console and get setup. Try to figure out if you want to be more operations or engineering, then join the discord in the description and talk to others on the same path.
If one is creative, is it better to go for cloud or front-end, or perhaps VR?
depends on where your creativity takes you. I'd say try all of them. Cloud isn't so much creative if you're a visual person, it's connecting systems.
Thanks for the video. Should someone focus on Linux or a coding language like Python as a first step in learning the cloud?
I'd say write python on a linux system. Two birds one stone!
Hello andrew, I want to get into cloud security path, I have knowledge of cybersecurity, hacking and programming with python, I never working in IT, My plan its to start with aws partitioner, and then go on with solution arch and then sec, you think I could get into some work? I have a fancy base? what do you think? my doubt, it's if I should do some SOC path (blue team) or direct I go by cloud , and the last doubt is if i need to realice comptia sec+ or with aws partitioner its fine? I really apreciate your time,
I think projects are your friend here. Certs are good but start building in public!
@@AndrewRoe thanks andrew! Do you have some projects build in the channel? or have good resources for them
@@iamtiedev yeah I have a poorly maintained (SORRY I'll work on it) github repo called cloud master. Here it is github.com/aroesec/cloud-masters We also have an open source repo that houses all projects related to cloud security and infrastructure as code (ALSO poorly maintained but again working on it) github.com/sythelabs/IaC-Examples
Thank you so much 😊😊

Do cloud Engineers do 24/7 shift works?
They can do on call which is augmented hours.
This is the call-out I needed, yikes. Thanks though!
glad it helped!
I am a software engineer with 3 years. But i am getting very exhausted with monotonus work, creating meaningless website and meeting deadlines. I am looking to gwt inro infrastructure as its less deep and more wide, which i might like more as i would have more technologies and options.
That's a good idea, burnout is real when you aren't enjoying what you're doing.
I would go for SE then get some aws certificates.
Good idea.
Do clients tell steps what I need to do for example create a VPC network or compute instance for them
yeah I've been told that before. It's definitely good to at least know how to do those things.
what salary ballpark can we expect year 1,3 & 5?
Highly depends on location and company.

Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I appreciate its unapologetic commitment to truth. On a side note this truth-seeking mindset applies perfectly to cybersecurity as welll. If someone isn't open to continually learning alongside their certifications, they're missing the mark. To me, certifications signal a basic grasp of a topic. They say, "I understand X, Y, Z, and here's proof." It's not about knowing everything but having a starting point. The main focus of learning should always be the wealth of free resources online, books, and other materials. Spending lots of money solely on certifications shouldn't be the main way we learn. Nowadays, you can find practically everything online for free. Even this video provides valuable information at no cost. It's all about being genuinely committed to learning and not just relying on courses or certifications (not that they're bad, but many people approach them incorrectly, often by pursuing loads of them without focusing on genuine learning.) Certifications/course diploma (or whatever) are essentially official documents confirming a level of achievement or status. If that makes sense. Courses/Certs shouldn't be relied upon as the sole method for learning since many of them have flaws and limitations.
Well said! Appreciate the kind words as well.
Let me know your thoughts below!
Why not devops entirely?
The differences between cloud engineering and devops can be minor but there are differences. DevOps consists of SRE or Site Reliability Engineering whereas cloud engineering doesn't encompass that.
90 day password rotations are outdated and proven to be more insecure by most other security frameworks except PCI cause they still live in the stone age.
I think it's a good starting point but could always be improved.
What’re your thoughts? Do you find more value in free or paid resources?
Another banger!
Yes and No. While there is a lot of free information out there, a lot of it is inaccurate. So inaccurate that people on reedit even made a list of bad websites to learn CPP. A course at school or outside of school is more structured than learning random stuff from random websites. My point is be careful where you are getting your free information from.
I don’t think it being paid or unpaid has anything to do with it being accurate. Be careful where you get ANY information from.
@@AndrewRoeThat's true that's what I mean be careful where you get any information from. Not saying paid are legit or not. There are many scammers out there.
yeah I agree with that! Always best to go to the source if you can. @@rlifts

yes! I do it's in the description of this video ruclips.net/video/1LjnQimRx7E/видео.html
Heyhh !! I have some doubt's ... I dont have enough knowledge about software engineering... Can you please explain me that after pursing IT related field if i get a job as a software engineer...then can i move to cloud engineer? Is full stack developer , cloud engineering , devops engineer and some other are comes in software engineering platform?
Being an IT generalist can set you up for many of the careers I spoke about but, engineering is different entirely. If you like to build things, enjoy solving problems, and find programming interesting then it's definitely an option.

Coming from test automation where its a mix of coding and a bit of devops, I do enjoy to code but at the same time have diverse and do devops such as ci cd cloud docker and etc, i was wondering if i go to cloud engineering or devops role, will I still be able to code? Because I dont wanna lose coding momentum, like you said regarding interview processes, sometimes employers tend to over exaggerate with the algos and system design, i do prefer to code and be involved in devops but i do wanna continue to write code as well.
You will in many cases but it’ll be a bit different. Infrastructure languages are different from traditional languages in a few ways but sometimes they’re the same. For example the AWS CDK allows you to use typescript, python, go and a few different others
CS50 is at Harvard ;)
Ah shoot misspoke!
I am debating on learning to be a front end software engineer or a cloud engineer. I know it is dependent on how many hours a day I spend, but which one would take longer to learn?
I really can’t answer that for you. It would rely heavily on which you are most interested in and your previous experience in adjacent skills. I recommend trying both out and going from there
To be very honest, you are hot AF.
I never seen someone with as much courage to say that but I'm not gay

haha you think I look like Egor Creed?
I don't like coding so my preference always with support engineer in support role various options available such as cloud, application, technical support multiple roles available in support...... If you are from tech but don't like coding other options also available................ spread knowledge in these area...
I can definitely make a video about this based on roles I've worked in tandem with!
