🌿 Tùs is the Scottish Gaelic word for "origin" or "source" As we believe that sustainability begins at the source, we are now sourcing some of our raw skins directly from British farms and Scottish crofts to create fully traceable bark-tanned sheepskins.

Follow the journey of our makers and crafters as they pull together the perfect ingredients for a magical Christmas with family and friends.
Isn’t it bad to get the skin wet?
Hi Crystal, Our skins are tanned in such a way that we produce a washable leather. This is not always the case and it's one of the differences between ours and other manufacturers skins.
Könnte ich mir gut vorstellen bei ihnen als gerber zu arbeiten.
Thank you for your lovely comment, Scottish blackface will is very resilient.
Ahhh! Lovely. I had to laugh when I saw the photo of the car filled with sheepskins. A few years ago I visited you on Waternish and bought 9 seconds blackface skins to sew into a bedspread for myself. I hadn’t quite remembered how full our car was on the way up for our holiday! Packing to go home was an adventure in itself. 😂 Scottish Blackface wool is famous for being very resilient in compression, so squishing it was harder than I expected. But we got home safely in the end.
Good job my friend. Can you teach me how to make the leather soft and not torn after tanning? I will be thankful
What should I use to tan the skin if I'm doing it in home
Most people looking to tan at home use an alum based tan. There are plenty of how to guides on RUclips and the web for this.
@@skyeskyns what about your method sir? What chemical you use to tan.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me the names of the machines used on this operator.❤
Thank❤❤
Visited 4 years ago and our hearts are aching to come back. 💙
Hey, is there a substance that makes the skin soft or just smurf?
no just tumbling in the drum, and the buffing of the back over the wheel.
This is the only professional fleshing video in the search results, thank you.
How can i do it withe out machins ( just hands)
Not easily, though it is possible to use knife blade to flesh, a barrel for tanning and stir it with a broom handle, nail out on a board to dry and the leather can be softend by working it over an edge in the old fashioned way. Finally they can be brushed by hand but it is even harder work.
Wonderful. Its a nice workshop. Im very impressed by seeing you buffing/sanding the skin. Does it make the skin thinner ? Which grit you use ? 60, 80 ? I wish you an eternal success. Thanks for the video.
Hi G.K. the buffing / sanding does make the skin thinner. We use a granite wheel made from Ailsa Craig granite, so not easy to say what grit it would be,
@@skyeskyns how can I buy the granite wheel?
Nice video
Hello, my name is Hakim, I am from Algeria, and I want to enter this field or profession, can you help me by answering some questions, if it is possible
would you like to tell me how did you slaughter these sheeps that you use their skin? Please please I need to know
We don't slaughter the skins ourselves we buy them from the local abattoir just outside Inverness where the majority of the lambs from the highlands are slaughtered. Lambskins are a by product of the meat industry, as long as people eat meat we would rather turn them into beautiful rugs than for them to go to landfill.
Hello 👋🏻 that’s very interesting and lovely What if I am in Saudi Arabia, How can I have one please !? may you tell me how can I buy white one !?
Hi The ones that we produce as in the video can be found on our website at www.skyeskyns.co.uk/sheepskin-rugs-and-throws/our-premium-range-the-mimosa-collection
I wish I had this lovely machinery when I tanned my sheepskins! Excellent video. So few people know about or appreciate what was a staple of our species for thousands of years.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely! It reminds me of the Tannery tour I took when I visited in 2017. A memorable day. Thank you all.
Thank you, we're glad you enjoyed it!

How much would you sell for one of these?
Sending you a big 🎉🎶 Merry 🎶🎉 Christmas from inland, sun scorched Australia 🌞🇦🇺
fabulous
откуда можно покупать такую стригаьную машинку ?
Hi, this machine does not shear the wool, just irons it with added lanolin. And we don't sell them.
We visited you last June & loved everything. We love our Skyeskyn fleeces so much! Thank you & Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thanks for the lovely feedback, Brandie, and Merry Christmas to you too :)
Beautiful sheepskins and so interesting to see the stages of tanning and finishing and how much is done by hand in this Scottish tannery
So interesting & lovely.
One like the brown on the bench would be £125 from our Mimosa range.
What type of oil is used?
I want one genuine pelt in India .So can I get one .
