Wader Quest Message 2025
Some small charities like Wader Quest, are entirely voluntary - no-one gets paid. Of the money we raise 100% of donations, and subscriptions are placed in a grants fund and used exclusively for funding wader conservation projects.
25% of Wader Quest merchandising sales is also ring-fenced for the same fund and used to assist projects.
More than ever waders need organisations like Wader Quest to defend them and fight their corner, and we, in turn, need you, the caring public, to support us so we can make a meaningful difference.

World Book Day 2024
Просмотров 4410 месяцев назад
World Book Day. A quick video explaining why we celebrate World Book Day at Lapwing Cottage. There is something about books, both old and new, that provide a tactile and sensorial aspect to reading and researching that cannot be gained from a screen and keyboard. You can feel them, turn their delicate pages, smell them, be they musty and old or pristine and new, you see the beauty of the layout...
Wader Conservation World Watch
Просмотров 71Год назад
This year WCWW is celebrating its 10th anniversary. So, we are hoping to make it a bumper year with many contributors out there in the filed looking for waders, or, if you prefer, shorebirds. Waders as a group are suffering badly. So many of them depend on wetlands and so many of those are being compromised by the actions of mankind. Is this something that bothers you? Do you, like us lie awake...
Wader Conservation World Watch 21

Every year since 2014, on the first weekend of November, we celebrate the Anniversary of the start of Wader Quest, which occurred on the 1st of November 2012. This was when we started our travels to find waders around the world in order to raise money to support the Spoon-billed Sandpiper captive breeding programme at WWT Slimbridge. The celebration takes the form of an international event - Wa...
Global Big Day - 9th of October 2021
Просмотров 563 года назад
The 8th to the 10th of October is Global Bird Weekend and on the 9th is Global Big Day. Each year teams and individuals go out birding and report their sightings to eBird. This year, since the idea is to raise money for bird conservation, and this year’s issue is the world’s wetlands, we decided we would like to take part and have entered Team Wader Quest. On this occasion it is not just waders...

The meaning of Numenius ;

The curlews and whimbrels have been joined together in a single genus, Numenius. Conventional wisdom tells us that this means 'new moon', but is that right? Here is an alternative suggestion. linktr.ee/WaderQuest

The Easter Lapwing Story
Просмотров 2193 года назад
At Easter, spare a thought for our Lapwings that are in decline. They are more connected with this time of year than you think. If not you’ll be shocked to know that the Easter Bunny is a fraud and an interloper having usurped the proper place of the hare who had in turn taken the credit for an act performed by the Northern Lapwing. www.waderquest.net/2020/04/12/northern-lapwing-the-real-easter...
Waders migration

Spring is coming, waders/shorebirds are on the move. Allow then some space to feed and rest on their migration stopovers. Share the beaches with the birds. www.waderquest.net/conservation/threats-to-waders/
Gary the Great Tit

Gary the Great Tit. In our garden at a previous address, we had a pair of Great Tits nest in an upturned jug. One day we noticed there were a few feathers on the lawn and on inspection saw they were baby great tit feathers, something had raided the nest. We checked in the nest and there was one chick left. We retired to the house and kept vigil but two hours later the parents did not return and...

Always enjoyed watching
Nice footage. River Lapwing is one of my favourite Asian waders.
These should be on your website.
WOW - I am liking that - surprised Rick let you record a non-wader : )
Interesting movie. Good job. Wish you a nice weekend. Best regards, Knut.
Thanks Knut. And the same to you of course. All the best. Rick and Elis.

Nice-work!
Tom Tarrant Thanks Tom! We were incredibly lucky; it was very early in the morning as it was getting light and there was no-one else around. Magic!
cool video.
How many of you spotted the deliberate mistake on Nordmann's Greenshank?
The Bubo scandiacus is the Provincial bird of Quebec Province of Canada.
Thanks 123japanuser, we like to think the spoonies would approve :-)
Well done. Spoonies would nod and giggle in approval :)
Thanks Nigel, not sure about brave, bold and musical, more like mad and with no shame. Reminds me of a song my father used to sing that goes something like: Some folks sing opera, Some folks sing flat, Some sing like sawing wood, I'm one like that! Cheers.
FANTASTIC! You are brave, bold and quite musical Mr and Mrs Wader Quest :)
It's a bit embarrassing, but you're welcome, glad you were amused by it. Cheers :-)
Obrigado, Mimussaturninus, um pouco embaraçoso, mas vale a pena é por uma causa justa! Adoro todos eles em geral, mas o spoonie definitivamente e um dos meus favoritos, e será muito triste se eles não existirem mais. Abçs.
Nice ditty,thks.
