Trains of Des Plaines, IL - 8/7/2019
Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago, is home to Deval Junction, the crossover point between Union Pacific's Milwaukee and Harvard subdivisions and Canadian National's Waukesha subdivision. It is an epicenter of rail action, hosting everything from locals to road trains to passenger trains, and during weekdays especially, it can get very busy.
On this day, I joined Kyle (BNKATO Trains) on a bike trip to the Deval area. We started off by shooting UP's "6 AM" local job around the Norma curve, eventually being surprised by a duo of Geeps bringing two cars to Waukegan. We later made a trip to CN's section of the diamond to catch local 501 returning to Schiller Park...

After the displays closed down, Metra sent the 405 out for a few photo runbys between control points B-17 and B-12. Somehow, a Nathan M5 horn found its way onto this unit, and it sounds amazing. Stopped by Mannheim once again to catch a few freights, but then this train came. For those that don't know, 155 was reassigned from the UP lines for reasons I am not sure of. My apologies for the shaky footage and strange audio; I filmed this on my DSLR.

AMTK 90368, a former Phase III NPCU, is now in Phase V paint. It spent its first weeks of post-storage service on the Hiawatha Service. I was lucky enough to catch the 90368 on a nice day in Morton Grove, before I biked home after a successful bike trip in Chicago. Enjoy!

Today, I drove up to Lake Forest for the first time, and, while there, I caught CP intermodal train 198. It had the usual GE leader. I was not expecting to railfan today, hence why I only had my phone on me, without a tripod. So yeah, nothing too special, but it was nonetheless nice to see a train. Enjoy!

I remember the E-units on the Southern Crescent had these M5 horns (and some P5). When it tune it almost sounds like a church organ playing.

I’m still around, just got busy with life and kinda fell out of love with the whole RUclips thing. I do want to eventually start posting videos again, but I’m thinking about exploring my other areas of interest (aviation mainly), instead of just trains again. But first I want to get my hands on some decent editing software and a camera that can take decent video. Who knows when that may happen, but hopefully it is sooner rather than later. I have a ton of ideas and visions for projects.

How do I even pay to get on metra?
You can use the Ventra mobile app (which is what I have done for years) or you can buy a paper ticket from a ticket agent.
That is a bad malfunction! It sounds to me like the computer that controls the playback of the announcements is telling this announcement to play over and over (due to a fault with it) causing the overlapping messages. It could also be the message was tripped multiple times (when it should be only once).
