Knitting German Short Rows in garter and stockinette stitch
The best Tutorial I could find. Thank you!Can this also bei done with only one colour?
Hi. Thank you. I have noticed there are several ways to do this particular project. Thank you.
Thanks for explaining this so clearly 🎉
Extrêmement difficile..
THANX HON 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Does this work the same way for purling
Your pattern and colors are beautiful!!
You can knit them at the same time. Why so complicated. I do double blankets and hats and you knit one color and other color. It goes fast. You just need to learn to hold two yarn. Idk I think it works faster this way for me instead of one color at one time.
@@frozenrogue8970 Yes, I typically work double knitting patterns with two colors at a time too, but not everyone is comfortable with that. This video is intended as an introduction to the concept of double knitting. I’m a knitting/crochet instructor, and it’s my job to ease people into new techniques.
Thank you for this very clear demonstration ❤️🧶
Es español!!!
Gosh I wish I’d seen this before I started (& finished!) knitting 160 squares!! I’m dreading sewing all the ends in now before joining them all!😂 Thank you for your very helpful demo. New sub from Brisbane, Amanda
Super helpful and explained so well. Thank you🤓
18:20 this video makes it look so easy! I can’t wait to try it myself. Thank you Clarissa
This is NOT ending a crochet baby blanket with a foundation row
I never said it was. As the title says, this technique can be used to begin or *extend* a project, not end one.
Is there a video on how to cast on with the two colours?
I didn’t include the cast on in the video because it wasn’t necessary for the pattern this tutorial accompanies. However, for this little swatch, I just used a long tail cast on. I cast on my red stitches minus 1, then draped the cream yarn over both strands of red before casting on the last red stitch. This trapped the cream yarn between the last red stitch and the needle. Then I continued with the long tail cast on using the cream color. Hope that helps!
@@carissaknits thank you. I'm still learning and videos like this are so helpful
Thank you!
So this is a new technique to me and I am working the Thisaway shawl. About halfway down, one of my knit stitches went into the fabric rather than the waste yarn. I think I have an idea about how to fix it involving some minor surgery, but right now, I am walking away from it for time to consider the fix…
Oh no! Do you mean one of the stitches in the first row of the second tail dove down too deep and caught a stitch below the waste yarn? If so, what I would do is to ladder down the stitch, pick up just the waste yarn loop, and then ladder it back up again. Of course, if you’ve gotten too far into the decreases of the second tail already, you may have to rip back to where the problem stitch was sucked into the center decrease, then you can ladder down and fix it. Hope that helps!
@@carissaknits i had finished the second wing and had picked up all the stitches. Only when I was removing the waste yarn did i discover this. I had to cut the offending stitch that was below the waste yarn and i then undid 10 stitches on either side of it. I then felted the cut ends back together and reknit those 20 stitches. All in all it was way easier than I imagined. I was glad to be knitting with handspun mostly wool yarn…
Good thinking!
Thank you so much - I’m new at this so please forgive what might be a silly question: did you build the very first row of colours going up from the bottom, joining in the same way, from the top of the squares?
Do you mean the first column on the far left of the blanket? It was made in one long strip, changing colors for each section, like you would a scarf. There’s nothing to join to when you’re working the first column. The joining starts when you begin the second column.
Thank you so much for this video!! I don’t know why my bind off was looking bad, but after your clear instructions i was able to fix my mistakes and successfully finish my project! 😊
How to use this for a curtain to rub the curtain rod through....
Thank you. I needed to see the bindoff with a purl stitch as first stitch, so I could get my brain wrapped around the steps . Your video did the trick.😊

I have a question. I knit and chrochet, and have maybe a tad OCD because otherwise probably wouldn't have noticed. When doing this type cast on, does it matter which way you yarn over in the crochet part? I've never tried this type of temporary cast on and it looks really fast and easy. As I'm sure you know, in knitting, the direction of travel for the working yarn is crucial to having a stitch look like you want. So this is just embedded into the knitting brain. I crochet, very occasionally, and I noticed you yarn over in different directions with crochet CO. If it doesn't matter when taking it out, that would be great for 2 reasons. 1. Rheumatoid arthritis makes some motions painful and this would be great being able to choose comfortable direction. 2. I'm trying to teach my granddaughters to knit. They can chrochet some, so I think it would be nice if they learn this and can be relaxed knowing they just have to always go under the knitting needle for the next stitch, but the crochet part is temporary. I hope this makes sense and doesn't just have a chatty old lady vibe. I want to show them this because it will look like magic and make me look like "All Knowing Granny", which of course I am.😉 This is pure chatty old lady. I highly recommend anyone wanting to learn to knit , chrochet first, even if not for a long time because you can master using your both hands to do seperate things while grappling (and that what it feels like those first few attempts😉) with one needle. Plus you learn to control yarn tension without trying to manuever a needle in the yarn hand as well. Even if you only take enough time to learn to make a decent single crochet. The hook you will use in later knitting because EVERYONE drops stitches and for this great cast on. When you decide to do knitting that requires yarn in both hands, you'll have no problem. This concludes my comment. It only felt endless. Thank you for the new technique.
The part that always confused me I was able to conquer by chanting "under both, under one, under both, under one" as I cast on.
This is really well explained!! I’ve had trouble with other video’s,thank you!! Wish I’d see this first!!!1.
Bonjour. What do I do after that my brim is finish...how to past to brioche 🙄🤷♀️Merci. Johanne.
Are you working from my Niefling hat pattern? If so, the instructions for transitioning from double knitting to brioche are included in the pattern.
Bonjour🥰 How after a few inches...I want to knit Brioche. I have 144 stitches, so 72. Now what do I have to do ? 1 row purl or one row knit. Merci. Johanne
I have a whole series of videos for brioche, starting here: ruclips.net/video/HDmlbcdLbPk/видео.htmlsi=nFyfhsvbpMdA1KLY
Carissa I SO appreciate your clear teaching style and the fact that u do it several times til it sinks in….thank you from Toronto💜
Thank you for the great instructions. I appreciate the detail, in all my years I’ve never seen anybody pinch Their working yarn in between their fingers. …Very interesting how everyone has a different way to do it.!
Awesome video! I'm a beginner knitter. Was able to follow. I'm also doing 3 yarn colors. Thank you for helping me learn & grow with knitting knowledge.
Genius!
I have watched several videos on intarsia colorwork in garter stitch. Your video is the best one I have found to explain the process thank you!!
Absolute best explanation and demonstration of a foundation chain I have ever watched. Thank you! ❤
That is cool . Love it .
Wonderfully produced tutorial. Thank you!
Fabulous tutorial. So clearly explained and great speed and close ups. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. You demonstrated it very well, and I will try this method.
Very beautiful blanket 😍
Thank you for this very clear straightforward video. You have cleared up my confusion!
👍🙋♀️🧿❤️🇹🇷❤️👌🌹🦋🌷🧶
I was doing my first ever crochet project which was of a sweater and my both body panel was done but the 1st one I made is too small. It was a single back loop crochet.. now can we please help me ma'am from not to open it and restart but have me an idea so that I can make that larger ..please 🥺
If the sweater panel is already complete, you could probably pick up stitches along each side edge and work a few rows to add side panels.
It works, but when you asked on 80 stitches for a beanie, it’s completely twists on the cable. What do you do?
I use a normal needle to cast on and after that I switch to the circular (cable) needle.
That’s a cute hat pattern.
This was very helpful!
Thank you SO MUCH! Everything worked out the first time!
IT is better by changing colors to cut the yarn and start the new colors and do a weaving as you go. That way you don"t have that ugly two colored ridge on the front side
It all depends on the project! This tutorial was made to accompany my Breezeway shawl pattern, which uses a skein of sock yarn and a skein of mohair/silk, both in the same colorway for a fun textural design. Since the two yarns are the same color, those dotted lines at the color changes totally disappear. I only demonstrated it with different colors in this video so you could see what I was doing. So yes, you could cut your yarn each time, but I intentionally chose to do it this way to avoid weaving in lots of ends.
Not if you’re doing a border on a blanket for example, you don’t want to cut every single row! (That there’s a colour change)…. you need to have a running ball on each end of your knitting! Don’t you think it looks like more of a mess with a bunch of knots and weave-ins on the RS , than one broken line in an alternating color ?
I so needed this for a project where a simple row of single crochet was looking way off on a hdc project…thank you 🎉
