Men's 2025 Fashion Trends Explained
Today, we'll take a closer look at what fashion experts and trend forecasters are calling trends for men in 2025. Brands like Gucci, Wales Bonner, and Acne are designing shorter shorts, sometimes as little as 3-inch inseams! Sheer fabrics were also seen on many runways, including Dries Van Noten, Rick Owens, and Craig Green. Loose and billowy silhouettes were featured at Todd Snyder, Fear of God, and Saint Laurent. We saw bold color throughout all the shows, notable examples included Prada, COMME des GARCONS Homme Plus, and Dior. Polo shirts were featured in many shows, including Hermes, Sacai, and Fendi. And big, bold patterns were also consistent across shows like Engineered Garments, Z...

    A catwalk show and what the buyers buy for shops are different things. As they said at Wimbledon many years ago, if shorts get any shorter they won’t be worn any longer

    • @PetersPrism

      That's true. What designers send down runways is often different from what buyers choose as the ready-to-wear versions. But the essence of what we saw on the catwalks will certainly filter down to the options we'll find on the racks come spring.

    I find loose/billow clothing Very comfortable. Being taller (6’4) makes everything labeled oversized look normal sized on me. I remember how hard it was to find looser clothing at the height of the slim/skinny 2010’s era. I’m happy everything skinny to wide exists at the same time currently.

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism День назад

      I'm curious if you there are specific brands that work well for your height? I'm short (5'8") so I envy those taller than me but I also recognize that being tall is probably often just as challenging for finding clothes that fit well off the rack.

    • @mcsc730

      @PetersPrism it’s the worse finding quality garments for my build. I take my time and i use eBay/poshmark for the traditional stuff like vintage brooks bros OCBDs, ties, Made in USA loafers, and plain designer belts. Then for contemporary stuff I go acne studios, RRL, Dries, RAEY (R.i.p Matchesfashion), Eytys, Jil Sander+, and Supreme. Everything I want gets wishlist’d and bought on sale; really solidifies if i want the item or not by the time it gets put on sale. Funny enough, i envied everyone under 6’ for the longest because anything can fit them with tailoring or sizing down. Taking my measurements and really being honest with myself/body type helped me realize i can like fashion and appreciate everything not for me without feeling bad cause i can’t buy into it.

    Transparent layers are a powerful tool for layering. I've already seen similar opinions on one of Giorgio Sanzio's videos and I expect heavier (e.g. knit) layers of transparency towards winter, but I think the sheer fabrics do it better for spring. They're especially well-fit for the season because opaque layers focus your entire appearance on the front and the bottom of the outfit, where different stiffness and length can stack your clothing in different ways. Transparent layers give way for the entire silhouette of your lower layers to express itself, and I feel they also give for interesting transitional effects in styles that adhere to a single palette. Unfortunately, consumers with no fashion experience will end up purchasing transparent bottom/middle layers without properly adjusting for that effect. Sheer clothing in menswear may find itself with a worse reputation in the mid to long term - similar to oversize suits.

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism День назад

      Well stated, thank you for sharing this. The 'transitional' effects you mentioned are most interesting to me, especially as it relates to how color can change when you lay one over another through semi-transparent layers!

      The designers constantly need to come up with some shocking design to be noticed. What people will actually end up wearing is a modified version of the runway look. Most people can't pull off these designs.....besides, they are expensive. I believe in good quality classic designs.

    Definitely not a fan of baggy and billowy cuts. As a really short guy, it makes me look like a boy playing dress up with his father's wardrobe. Between the gym and long distance running training, I've been rocking 3-5 in inseams for over a decade now. If my shorts don't expose at least half my thighs, they're too long. 🤣

    Your #1 fan here. Oversized clothes are more comfortable and always classy. I just don't get the short-shorts though. It's definitely not something one can wear to work. Even worse is the cropped polos. 90% of men would not be able to wear it because not everyone is fit to show off toned midriff. One with beer belly won't be able to pull it off. I had to laugh at the pointy shoulder purple polo knit shirt. Love, love, love Junya Watanabe patched jacket! Someone will wear it at the Oscar. Peter, you should do a review of Oscar fashion for men.

    Fashion is art. Art is overstimulated and suffering when there is too much of variety and availability. It becomes your usual routine. This is why AI can only ruin fashion. It can help with design, since design is actually making it fitting, helping an artist choose materials and etc, basically letting you skip the knowledge and brainwork part.

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism 7 дней назад

      Thanks for this comment! Totally agree with you that repetitive tasks can have great efficiency improvements with the right application of AI.

  • @b3naqua
    @b3naqua 7 дней назад

    Interesting topic! AI in fashion is fascinating and insanely powerful, tho at the end of the day I’m not sure if any of it will actually find itself on my body. AI imagery is a bit too stimulating and unreal for my brain to handle lol, and it feels kinda numbing too quickly. Info overload. TMI. It also feels very temporary, like creating any random image from text in seconds, then print it out or just look at it…then what? It’s cool, but feels very ephemeral and overwhelming. It makes me appreciate the tangible and beautifully simple quality of well-made garments from Yohji, Rick, etc

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism 7 дней назад

      Good point! Glad that you called out Yohji and Rick in particular, both of whom I think are creative visionaries, rare designers who have actualized unique and complete worlds through clothing. To me there is humanity and soul in those clothes. And that can never, ever be reproduced by computing/automation.

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua 7 дней назад

      Agreed! The more AI saturates & consumes culture, the more I appreciate designers like that who aren’t resorting to quick-fix design or production methods. They’re keeping it “real” imo and not relying on the intangible to disturb their vision. And their garments speak for themselves, instead of the other way around. I’d rather pay more $ for a few of their archive pieces than for a “haul” of cheaply-constructed, mass-produced, in-trend blasphemies (old ppl moment lmao). That said, I also do appreciate the experimental nature of designers like Iris Van Herpen who are clearly using tech to create body sculptures and new forms.

    Your number one fan here. another great video Peter. Creating an original and innovative design is a lot harder than people think. A machine to do that is mostly based on mimicking what's done already. AI tools can help with mundane and repetitive tasks very well but as far as coming up with an innovative concepts, we will have to wait and see.

  • @gnth9552
    @gnth9552 8 дней назад

    I have tried this, and AI has disappointed me because creativity is precisely what it fails at. AI cannot generate what I call a "bookshelf with no books". When you give your prompt, AI will seek out examples of what terms you fed it and find the most prototypical ones to be inspired by. That means that the generated result will also have most prototypical traits of what you based your prompt on - and it is nigh impossible to remove those. I'm sure you understand how this crippled my own design attempts, but the more pressing question is: If AI cannot stray from what's currently typical of fashion, will it only contribute to the cyclical nature of fashion trends? Will true novelty be overshadowed by the sheer potential amount of AI fashion content we can generate - and eventually die out?

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism 7 дней назад

      Great point raised and consistent with others who have questioned what happens to 'true' originality if it were overwhelmed by AI-like design noise. I tend to think (and hope) that if we ever get to that point there will be backlash of sorts. True art and creativity exists and moves people for a reason!

  • @johntruman2126
    @johntruman2126 8 дней назад

    I don't feel like AI will drive innovation at all, for the most part it'll be used to continously fuel the slop houses like H&M, SHEIN, etc. as shown in this video. There's no shortage of creative ability in the fashion sphere, the limiting factor is textile manufacturing and garment construction techniques.

  • @youlikeanh
    @youlikeanh 8 дней назад

    A fun question is when will companies cut their creative teams to use AI? They will always try to save a buck and bringing everything to a small in house team makes sense. For the most part, companies aren’t putting out “cutting edge” designs and seems like a space where AI can really thrive. Relative to fashion, where I agree, a human touch is needed, unless you’re just generating trash printed tees.

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism 8 дней назад

      That's a great question. I guess only time will tell!

  • @sarahlabbe9779
    @sarahlabbe9779 8 дней назад

    It'll forever be a question of balancing the two aspects; "AI tools can make designing and engineering a product more accessible to the masses, lowering the barrier to entry for creative people trying to make their mark in fashion" and "Why would I bother wearing (or even wanting) something someone wasn't 'bothered' to design and make with effort, the traditionnal way" I'm afraid that with AI's shiny novelty aspect, we will lose some of the refinement that comes with perfectionning something over time, over many iterations. I look back at traditional high quality garnments where seam placements served a function like save on fabric or allow specific movements following the wearer's body. I don't think we will get to that level of attention to detail once we randomly generate new ideas and patterns.

    • @PetersPrism
      @PetersPrism 8 дней назад

      Great point. It'll be interesting to see whether we get to this point - Will customers not care? Or will we get to a point with engineered clothing that art and craft are truly lost and as a result we see a backlash? It's maybe a naive hope, but I've been feeling this way about fast fashion... that customers will eventually reject it because the bad will so greatly outweigh the good that it will no longer be deniable.
