Extreme Flight RC Plane 3D flight and Crashes

Eric Charley has this beautiful plane from Extreme Flight. I recorded most of his flight which was perfect. The main reason I made this video was the music. My brother sent me the sheet music to "A Sunset's Promise" and I wanted to thank him for his birthday gift. He's an aeronautical engineer, so I put RC planes in the video along with the sound track. I also added a music soundtrack from songs I performed and recorded on my Yamaha electric piano.

    Great fun, can I ask…….do you always have your antenna pointing up on your TX ? Does it need to be in a particular position? 👍🏻🇬🇧

    • @stevecoltrin7230
      @stevecoltrin7230 4 месяца назад

      Guy always flies with the antenna on his transmitter in the same position. I use a Spektrum NX6. I have always flown with my with my antenna in line with the frame of the of transmitter, so if the transmitter was standing on a table, the antenna would be pointing straight up. I fly without a cord around my neck, so when I'm holding the transmitter, the transmitter and antenna is pointing up about 45%. With all that having been said, I got to wondereing what Spektrum recommends. In my NX6's manual, it says, "WE RECOMMEND SETTING UP YOUR ANTENNA TO BE POSITIONED VERTICAL WHEN YOU ARE IN YOUR MOST COMFORTABLE POSITION FOR FLYING." So I think, in the future I am going to change what I have been doing, and adjust my antenna so that it points straight up. It never hurts to read the manual, and just maybe the few brownouts that I have experienced will not be repeated in the future. Thanks for asking your question that got me thinking, and probably changing what I do. FYI: Spektrum NX and DX transmitters have two antennas set at 90 degree angles to each other. For NX transmitters, the second one is behind the nameplate. The DX transmitter's second antenna is in the transmitter's handle. The two antennas makes it much better for communication between the TX and RX. In the olden days when transmitters only had one antenna, the common feeling was to point the antenna up at least 45 degrees above the horizon, and never point the antenna directly at the plane.

    • @cooltube
      @cooltube 4 месяца назад

      @@stevecoltrin7230 thanks for the in depth answer. It’s great info!!! I too have been flying without the strap and at 45° like yourself, which is why I asked the question in the first place. So I will also hold my NX8 at 45° and then make the antenna vertical and see how I get on. Great chat with ya Steve, much appreciated 👍🏻🇬🇧

    • @guyfuller1808
      @guyfuller1808 2 месяца назад

      Let me jump in. I fly with the antenna pointed that way so as not to point the tip directly at the plane. The antenna emits the signal in a donut shop and the tip would be a so-called dead zone. It may be just me but I have less frame loss with the antenna pointed 45 degrees from the base. Please note that I haven't verified my conclusions, but it's rather apparent with FPV aircraft and viewing the video through goggles. I hope this helps.

      @stevecoltrin7230 4 месяца назад

      I thought about the possibility of a stall, but I was flying at about 75% throttle and making a long sweeping turn. After the turn I was going to drop my gear for a gear check. When I checked the flight log on my transmitter it showed a complete communication failure between transmitter and receiver. Then two other pilots had their planes do the exact same thing in the same area after my plane went down. I think it stalled because lost communication, which stopped power. We have one of the city's water processing facilities next to where we fly and I went over to talk with them. They kind of hemmed and hawed around after we asked them if they were testing or had installed new radio equipment. They didn't want to take the blame for our planes. So maybe, maybe not. But 3 planes with different pilots and transmitters losing power and spiraling down in the same place within an hour is pretty weird.

      @mikeylikesrc When I cut mine out I used an exacto knife and cut it at a 45 degree angle on the front and back edges. That made it wider at the bottom than at the top. After cutting the pilot out of the canopy, I took the old pilot off the base, and glued in the new one. By cutting the base at the angle, it was easy to glue it back in place after replacing the pilot.

I insert a Dowell into the bottom of snoopy that stuck out about 3/8" so that would go into the same base I just cut out so that it would be a perfect fit when I glues it back in.

BUT, you have to have that discipline to fly responsibly and with common sense. Know your limits. With that however comes the realization that if you're not on the sticks,you can't be a real judge of what too far is for someone else..

    I took an old beat up Aero Scout and turned it into a taxi trainer for my students. I painted her yellow, put big fish eyes up front, remove the broken wings. I call her Emu after the tv commercial bird.

    Awesome little piece of kit but if I could make a suggestion from watching your vid it appears that the jets stream made from the EDFs are effecting the flight control surfaces which may account for making it a handful to fly and also hard to loop and roll..... I did a similar thing years ago to a mid wing model and the key objective was to keep the flight surfaces out of the wind made by the EDFs....all in all its a great looking model so I hope this vid I made a few years ago may show what I mean.... ruclips.net/video/31oIhvS6tGs/видео.html
