I was 1st aware of the place dare I say about 25+ years ago but fr whatever reason I always put off coming here until a few years ago. I have a friend who used to invite me along and I never went - what a regreat but since final getting there I have been 3 times...lol. As many will tell you it can be pretty precarious getting to the falls and at my age now I won't go alone - no signal and the river can sometimes be uncrossable. I look forward to you visiting - I have seen many people taking a dip there.. I have promised my neighbour I will take him so he can swim there.... atb Al

Morning Martin... that must be a 1st! I was wandering around as has been my habit the last few months. The earthworks is marked on the map and I was at the top of the woodland and whilst sat having a rest I opened my os map app to see where I was and noticed it so thought I would investigate. There was a fence surrounding it and obviously its on private ground but I took a chance and stepped over the small fence to have a look. When I wandered that way back in 2015 I actually met up with the farmer and he seemed pleasant enough - I had my camera and told him I was wandering about looking for misty shots... he semed fine. I have noticed since going back this year the path I took back then is marked private / keep out and marker posts direct you back into the reserve it might be new owners or perhaps someone peed him off - don't think it was me...lol atb Al

Secondly I saw the standard wooden bridge and it made me think...shock horror! Instead of all these sculpture trails and weird art installations, why not get them to design and build some bridges for places like that as a funky bridge down there would definitely make it a must see location, for me at least. A good day out overall Alan. It's always a treat to get the best side of these places. Re-the source of the Wye you have to take it holistically. It's the source of a river - not a waterfall. Robert Gibbings said, 'the source is no bigger than a bowler hat.' The view down in my view is spectacular. It's simply broad with an incredible path cut into the side of the mountain by the young river. In fact you can see into the Midlands practically. If you walked all the way down you'd sense how spectacular the source is. The slopes close in on you further down and the view up is inspiring. So, yeah this is the holistic point of view. There was never a sign - that's the Severn. The river you followed out is the Tarennig a right back tributary of the Wye. All the best. Mark

Thanks for taking us over this remote Cambrian Hill. I do love these open, remote and quiet hilltops outside the main National parks. Lots of opportunities for wild camping too by the looks of it when I get back on the Cambrian way .
