I'm in first year of knitting and I look forward to colorwork 😊 It's good to know that you figured it out even though it was your first time (it means it's feasible 😅)
Yes! Like most other things that have intimidated me, it turns out to be completely doable with the right resources :) and the basic idea is really so simple!
Hello Kelsey from New Zealand! Really enjoyed your podcast and look forward to following your knitting journey 😊 Loved your buttons, for future reference Apple branches make the best strongest buttons, preferably fresh prunings. After drilling the holes rub them over with some coconut oil to feed the wood and they should turn out great ❤
@@cathydonaldson5615 what a fantastic tip, thank you! I'll have to try that :)
I loved seeing the trials and errors on the hoodie and the scarf, the end result is so good! And of course I support the unraveling-a-perfectly-valid-garment-just-to-reuse-the-yarn 😂 that's the right energy gurl 💪🏻
Thank you! I'm definitely pleased with how this project is progressing now, and happy with my choices 🥰 and it's basically just swatching, just in a way where once I get it right I can just carry on haha
Your videos are such a nice company for knitting :) I'm excited to see the progress of your knits, and I'm also joining the mkal for the first time 😅 I'm just super curious, but heading with a similar perspective where if I don't like it I have a plan B for my yarn 🧶
@@vale1554 thank you so much! I'm glad to have company, I'd love to hear your thoughts as we get into the MKAL process 🥰 and totally agree, so so curious haha, it must be why these sorts of events are so popular!
Hi Kelsey, your amoretta blouse is so beautiful. Its def on my list to knit! The geometric colorwork is a nice plan, I d love to see the progress 🤎
@@nikitinaknits thank you! ✨
A paler silk core is common to most dark silk mohairs. If you don’t love that, a good alternative fluffy lace weight yarn that has a more uniform colour is CamaRose Midnatssol, which is an alpaca, tencel, merino blend.
@@verylikecheryl oh thank you for the recommendation! Yeah I guess I mostly have seen the merino/silk mohair combo in lighter colours before
@@GardenVarietyKnitsThanks for a lovely episode! Just watched to the end and if you want something that looks like the Umbria but with a collar, I wonder if you have seen the Tuileries Polo by Soumine Kim at Knits Pour Moi?
Ooh yes, it was on my radar, I'll definitely consider it as an alternative! Maybe it would also work in a silk 🤔
So great about your sister ! hope she likes it here ! I'd recommend going for shetland wool so the accessory can be windproof, as that's really what makes a difference here, i'd say !
@@thewoollyworker oh good point! I've already made my decision haha, although I could probably convince myself to keep my current plan for myself and start hers again in another yarn... What I'm more concerned about for wind is that I'm making the cosy coco hood and I think the honeycomb stitch pattern is a little hole-y as well, so maybe even less weather-appropriate. But I also can imagine she'll have/need a big outer layer to cover everything anyway
"Girls in a sorority picture" this image is so clear, I'm dead 😂 I have the same happening when I knit colorwork, but it's only the first stitch of a group of stitches knit in the dominant color... I think it has something to do with the tension of the float. Not that it had ever bothered me enough to try and find a solution against it 💁🏻♀️ Loved the episode as always ! And summer is not over, we should still have hot days until mid september and 1 oddly hot week in october, if things goes as usual around here 🤞🏻
@@millahism I don't knit as fast as you, so I'll definitely knit summer things through the rest of the summer but I suspect I'll only finish once the weather turns! And as always I appreciate your comment, you're very kind 🥰
Small self service farm shops in Switzerland look so cute, once I had a luck to visit one that was offering cheese, meat, eggs and handmade soaps, all with the pure trust to visitors, it was beautiful experience. Your hat with local alpaca yarn looks very cozy and beautiful, the colors suit you so well! I was so happy to see you are testknitting amoretta blouse, since I am waiting for this pattern patiently for so long! Overall, thank you for another enjoyable episode 🤎
@@nikitinaknits I really do love them! Thank you so much for your kind comment 🥰
Wow, your Amoretta Blouse looks so good! I'm also testing it, but I'm still in the Vneck increases....
@@hjanelle8394 thank you! Yeah I'm actually halfway through the body bind-off now! Although I'm sure the button band will take longer than I'd like 😅
Hi Kelsey, loving your videos so much. Tombo tee is def on my list!
That's so sweet, thank you! 🥰 And yes, I definitely recommend it, it's turning out pretty lovely!
The sitting-on-the-floor background is actually very cozy and aesthetic, I love it ! For the i-cord edging, I had the same issue as you where there was kind of a bump showing, and after some trial and error I discovered that it depends on the order of operation. There is a video tutorial by Lily Kate on applied i-cords where there's actually a mistake in the video, I pointed it out in a comment so if you go and have a look at that it might help you ! I don't remember exactly what it was but basically, when using the method she shows, you need to do a yarn over and depending on where you place it, this little bump will show on the right or on the wrong side if the i-cord. Which is actually a helpful trick to know about if you ever need to do an applied i-cord on the wrong side :)
Thank you, that is super helpful! I'd actually tried following that exact tutorial in the past and given up in confusion (I reverted to doing some kind of K2tog), but now I know the instructions are a little off I'm sure I can work it out!
Killing it, very cool pants Kelsey! I love the Muji duvet getting a second life! Also love the addition of sewing chat at the end. I'm probably almost at the same level as you, so I'd selfishly be happy for more sewing content 🙃
@@roseisaacs7190 aw thank you Rose!
Could you convince your friend who cut your gage ruler to cut out sock blockers for you?😁
That's smart!! I'll look into it 👀
The linen yarn looks beautiful! Looking forward to see what you make with it 😊
This is a wonderful roundup, I’m a huge boat neck fan and started knitting the cloud blouse (with a cotton yarn that has a nylon core). I might end up doing a 2 stitch hind off on the neck that looks like an icord. Have you taken a look at the 6 in 1 top by oops and loops? I think the 6 in 1 top has a lot of elements you mentioned linking.
Your Leela top is stunning! I love how the fabric looks ❤
@@Stitchesinstem aw thank you so much! I've been wearing it nearly constantly haha
You look 🔥🔥 in the bandeau top ! I never wear any because I'm too flat chested for them to stay up but I sure wish I could, even more when I see you in one 💛 And congrats on your successfull Leela top, simple knits are just so effective sometimes, the ratio of effort/result is so satisfying. And of course I did try a folded over stockinette neckline, and it works 😉 I did it in my Lakes Stripes Tee test for Ozetta, I have the deets in my ravelry project page ! And thanks for mentioning me, it always makes me so happy hehe 🤭💛
@@millahism thank you! I'll check out your rav notes for that one then :)
absolutely same re: sleeveless/tube tops (like..they're just supposed to be like that? i guess? lol. looking up pictures is so valid). and your leela top is soo perfect. thanks for another fun pod :-)
@@alchemicxl hahaha I'm glad I'm not alone! And thank you! ☺️
Check Aldous by Isabelle Kraemer and Ankestrick has some well fitting shoulder/sleeve constr. patterns
@@solveigjohannesdottir1813 thank you, I'll take a look!
I would go with the Farfa Top! I believe it would be the closest to the Blouse No 1, although it is a raglan. I am making the Cumulus O-neck right now, and it is a lovely pattern but I don't think the fit would be really similar to Blouse No 1!
@@andreeaknits thank you! I think the farfa has made it onto my queue regardless, even though I've started the tombo to check the neckline 🥰
As usual I am coming to recommend one of Alice Hammer's patterns lol, Jeanne is a pure silk tee, and its neckline is finished with an icord. I love myself some saddle shoulders, so I am leaning towards the Tombo! But they all look great honestly
@@gougere thank you, that pattern wasn't on my radar! It looks super cute 🥰 That's two votes for the tombo, I'll have to swatch/try the neckline ASAP :)
I vote for the tombo tee ! I think the contiguous construction is the closest from the square shape you like in the blouse no 1. And I’m also totally obsessed with it since it came out 😂 you could also modify it quite easily by casting on a larger neckline and shorten the shoulder increasing section accordingly, that would solve your concerns about the neckline being too small and go in the direction of the wide boatneck 👌🏻
@@millahism I appreciate that I'm not alone 😂 thanks for the vote, I definitely am excited about the tombo! and that's a good mod to consider, I don't mind the high neckline aesthetically, as long as I can get it over my head - I just skimmed the pattern and it's like 30 rounds flat before joining in the round, so I do think I'll experiment with knitting it without mods and try it on first 🥰 just one big swatch hehe
I love my Feels Right tee. The shaping is lovely. Knitted in pure silk and my neck line is fine. I sized up a little so don’t know how much that affected the neck, though 🤷🏻♀️ Good luck whatever you choose x
@@verylikecheryl thank you, that's super helpful info!
💪💪💪
Lovely podcast, thank you, Kelsey. I love your visible mending. Feels like a happy ending for the lost sweater 🙂 I wonder if your sock yarn is Onion brand, ‘Nettle Sock Yarn.’ I just knit some socks in a simple lace repeat and also found it to be not very stretchy at all. Kind of silky and robust at the same time. My label says ‘Yarn Weight: Fingering Weight (4ply) Fibre: 70% Superwash Merino, 30% Nettle Length: 185m (202 yds) - 50g ball Needle Size: 2.5 - 3mm (US 1.5-2.5) Gauge: 28 sts = 10cm Care: Hand wash’
@@verylikecheryl thanks so much for your lovely comment :) I think my yarn isn't onion brand, but definitely similar makeup and I really agree about the lack of stretch!
Your finished Cruplet Camisole is just gorgeous, the pattern went straight to my Ravelry queue. I've knitted the Leela top and I love mine as is, but think your mods would look great with the design! Knowing the pattern, they should also not be too difficult to implement :)
@@kanal-ss7vq thanks so much! My Leela is at the point where I can try it on, but I'm doubting the final results! Can't wait to finish and block it and find out if I like it :)
I was smiling like a dumb person through half of the video 😂 thank you Kelsey you're so sweet ❤ I'm so happy I can inspire you, and also enable you to reverse engineer non size inclusive patterns hehe. I love how adventurous you are to just try out stuff and see what it becomes as you create it ! It's so funny because I was knitting with BC garn lino while watching this, and when you said you wanted a fingering weight linen yarn for you front-tie vest I wanted to suggest it to you... but I didn't even had to 😂 The best bandeau style top that I can think of is the Juno top by Vert knit ! It has lots of different options, with or without straps and bust shaping, and it has a super lovely texture ! Loved this video and I hope you get to enjoy your time off work ❤
Ooh thank you! The juno is so pretty, maybe I'll try that one if I decide to go again 🥰 I'm using the lino for a Leela top like I said I might, it's working up so nicely! I'm excited to block it too :) so definitely a candidate for my vest mash-up.
Wow what a coincidence, I have a friend who has a few alpacas and he gave me some yarn they spun with their fleeces, so I happen to be in possession of two balls of extremely local and soft alpaca yarn that I don't know what to do with 😂 I have more than you though (200g of chocolate and 100g of black), so for now I was thinking on making a brioche cowl, similar to the inclinations cowl by Andrea Mowry ! If you can source a little bit more of it, that might be an idea :) (in my case they have the fleece spun in a small mill, maybe it's the same for yours !) And to answer you question, yes it is totally a thing to do decreases or increases along the armhole to shape wider or smaller shoulder. Armhole shaping doesn't have to happen exclusively around the armpit !
Oh wow, a) what a coincidence for sure! I'll definitely try to source more yarn then :) and b) I knew you would know about the armhole shaping, thank you!! I'll try it out maybe 🥰 just for the learning experience
Loved the episode, thank you! I am also about to knit a bra , but still haven’t chosen the pattern yet.
I think I'm self-drafting something 🙈 which is ofc so much less relaxing! But I'm hopeful it'll turn out how I want
@@GardenVarietyKnits good luck and I m already curious to see ☺️
I loved this episode! I came from Vanissia’s discord so I’m glad you posted the link there 😊
Aw thank you! Self promo always feels funny, so I'm glad you enjoyed it 💖
I'm really excited to see what the Crumpet Camisole will look like when finished, I love the lace on it :D
Thank you! I actually finished it today haha, it's on the blocking boards 🥰 sneak peek will be on instagram first if you hang out there!
I really love your split front tank! Beautiful project! I also want to try hand-dyed but still looking for a perfect color blend :) Looking forward to new videos!
Thanks so much! ☺️
Great video ❤. I wish I had this when I started knitting. However, I’m happy it’s available now for people who want to start this hobby. Thank you!
Aw thank you that's really sweet!
🗒 don't mind me just taking notes on your tank top for my second iteration wait lol I did the same exact thing you did with my first attempt at the Me Oh My tee, pure vibes and wayyyyyy too much knitting at waaayyy too big of a gauge lol. I love the shoulder shaping for that tee. I hope you got your belongings back from the hotel :(
love the bella notte blouse ! added immediately lol
Yes it's turning out really nice, I think it's a fun pattern!
Oh I have saved that Bella Notte pattern so long ago ! It looks so good, thanks for making it come back into my radar 👌🏻 I'm also super picky when it comes to how super variegated yarns look once knit up, but I think yours looks amazing ! And I'm pretty sure your shoulders will end up too small if you add the double knit edge as is, I would suggest picking up more stitches already on the first go :)
Thanks so much for the reassurance on the yarn! W.r.t. pickup rate, I forged ahead with the one in-pattern because it's actually already 1:1 so I'd have to do some thinking to increase it. After a block it's all relaxed a bit and I think it might work out! But if I knit the pattern again I might go up size everywhere 😊
Great video❤. Your bella notte blouse looks good. I’ve had it in my favorites for a while but seeing yours has motivated me to really consider making it soon. It really is a pretty top.
Thank you 🥰 I hope you do try it and enjoy it, I agree it's pretty!
I love the feeding your chicken in gumboot core 😂weirdly enough I have sweaters that fit the vibe ! I have the same issue with ribbing zig zagging when knit flat, and the bad news is that it doesn't block out... And I don't know how to avoid it, apart from knitting tighter 😅 maybe if you knit the right side continental and the wrong side english style it could help. I haven't tried it though !
I'd love to see which sweaters you mean! That is slightly bad news about the ribbing, I feel like I'll try some aggressive blocking techniques before I despair though :)
@@GardenVarietyKnits I'll take an OOTD shot with a #feedingyourchickeningumbootscore one day and tag you in, brace yourself 😂
hi, i love your podcasts!! i sometimes struggle to find knitters on youtube who have similar style to me and would knit similar things, but i seriously adore your pieces + yarn and design choices, and i love the chill vibe of your videos. thanks for something nice to knit along to !
Thank you so much for the sweet words, they made my day 🥹
The cashmere sleeves could become ankle / wrist warmers? It would be very y2k but that's the current trend  As for evening ribbing I have no idea, I accepted that they are inherently an irregular stitch, and I choose to knit twisted ribbing if I need them to be clean... I have read that you could twist and untwist purls while knitting ribs but I think that's a technique used for larger ribs (like 2x2)
Hehe true! Idk if I would ever think to wear them though 😅 Interesting about the ribbing, maybe I'll watch a little. I think this yarn is a little less forgiving too maybe though (I'm telling myself)
thank you so much for mentioning and your compliments 🥺🤍 also loved your video!! very interesting combination of all the fun crafts hihi
I've always dreamt of knitting boucle yarn too! Your Teddy jumper makes me want to take the leap! Love the mini cables on the socks but it looks so annoying to knit though
Ooh do it! Just be warned it's not as pleasant to knit with as normal yarn 😬 but really rather nice to wear 🥰 Oh and the cables are small enough you can do them without a cable needle, which I find helps a lot, plus it's all on the same round so only slows you down some of the time
In « éclair », you pronounce the é and the ai exactly the same ! Don’t ask me why it’s not written the same way then 😂 Good job on the snowboard advancement 😌👌🏻
Oh thank you! Good to know 🥐
I can’t wait to see your tank top! Darning with mohair is such an interesting idea & for what it’s worth I actually think your mended sweater is a really great silhouette. I really enjoyed hearing about your projects. I might have to make myself a pair of sock blockers as well
Thanks Emma! 🥰
I love your setup! And the pretty tulips in the corner. Great video Kelsey 🤍
Aw thank you!
1) I love your handmade buttons. Im feeling some inspiration for the buttons I need for my home cardigan project. 2) I’ve gotten into some heated arguments with my boyfriend over the validity of “finders keepers” (typically I am pro, lol) but I have thrifted a few holey cashmere jumpers and I love wearing them on hikes/camping. So comfortable, warm (and luxe) but I’m not worried at ALL about wearing them too hard. So excited about your mending journey w that sweater.
1) thank you! 2) yeah totally hehe - for me it's partly a question of "finders keepers" and also just how much I hate the idea of something lost going to waste because it gets rained on etc. so I feel like I'm always guessing the chances it'll be claimed by its rightful owner 🥰
Thanks for the shoutout! I love your boucle elevation loop sweater 🫶
Actually blushing, thank you Jenny 🥹
The knitting backwards technique is so interesting ! I've only done it for bobbles but it sure is something I would like to try more seriously one day. I definitely agree that instruments and stuff like knitting are not really tied to being right or left handed. I'm right handed and I knit continental but when I knit, my left hand does all the job and my right hand is almost completely still. I also played guitar back in the days and I have always thought, why are right handed guitars made in a way where you have to play the chords with your left hand ?? That's the most tricky part by far 😂
Yeah it's getting really pretty good with practice, I'd recommend it! And I've heard it can be good for flat colorwork too, although I haven't tried colorwork of any kind And defs agree about the guitar thing haha
Aw I love the handmade buttons! Well worth the effort it took to make them 😂
Thanks so much! Definitely something I want to explore more (and I have access to better tools now haha)
