link for these?
Do a 8 lug swap next, would be siiiiiiiiiick
hi, nice video! what was the oem gearing ratio for first, and what is it now?
Not sure about OEM 240z, but the 5 speed that was previously in it had 3.32 first gear ratio, and I think this new box is exactly the same. However 2nd and 5th are now slightly longer - which I like.
Old reply I know. Worth the chance ! Still got the valance ? Want to sell it ? Thanks. I just got a lovely original 260 with a squashed valance.
sorry holding onto the valance.
Where you buy that conversion parts? Want to do same!!
Your intire throughout bearing theary is wrong. There will always be contact between the bearing and diaphragm fingers and the slave cylinder is self adjusting to suit a range of pressure plate heights. There are 4-5 different collar heights available.
That is a crazy garage/door combo. The wheels are nice too.
Looks great
I suscribed in the first few seconds just because I spotted my 2 favorite cruisers in the thumbnail 😂😅
What rims are those?
SSR auswuch both in 15x8 I think
HEY LEGEND GOOD VIDEO! can you confirm its 18mm bore on the shaft to fit the L bell?
Thanks! I can't confirm myself as I didn't do the machine work or really discuss that with them too much. The best info i've found is here: zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/240SX5spd/transmission.htm
great video. I am using it as a guide to do mine in a couple of weeks. How did you figure out which of the 2 connectors were for the reverse light switch?
Sorry, it's been a while so I can't quite remember, I'm sure you can tell by the colour of the wires
Eccentric bushings for the rear arms is what im going to go with before I can afford rear arms. Supposedly it gives alot of toe adjustment and some camber adjustment
So any updates of the van?
Nothing filmed and edited for youtube unfortunately, just got too busy with life. maybe when it's all finished all do a bit of a walk around video or something though. Currently, it's got a roof rack with a roof box, and spot/flood lights, a ladder up the side and an awning. Lifted it 2 inches and bigger tires and wheels. Inside just has a simple folding bed setup I can fit a mountain bike under. best to find us on instagram if you want to see photos
Did you ever make more videos of the inside of the build?
No videos, I was going to do one eventually when it was all finished. If you find me on instagram and flick me a message I can send some more photos of it's current state.
@@andowerks1968 Sweet, thanks! Just messaged you there. This is my current dream van.
Amazing! This has become my dream van.
Thanks! it might be for sale sometime in the next year if you wanted it
@@andowerks1968 I would be interested in that, if we could get it to the USA.
Lovin those SSRs! They look great on your Z, great choice 👌🏽 I think the 205/55 size tires fills the arch perfectly Are you getting any rubbing on the front end when turning or any on the rear fender? Thanks mate
Thanks! took me a long time to finally settle on the Mk2's, had a few other options as well. Very happy with how they look. No rubbing at all up front. Had a little bit in the rear on the arches when the car was lower, but only with 2 people and hitting a big bump mid corner. Raised it a tiny bit and now it's fine
Nice video- I have the same air dam. Since this video have you noticed any flex of the air dam while driving? Curious if you ended up making a bracket to support the center.
thanks! yea it did flex quite a bit so I made a bit of a flat bottom out of a big sheet of plastic at the front with the brackets off the old tow hook bolts I think. If you have instagram and can find @andowerks on there, flick me a message and I can see you some photos or something
May I ask if the Style 5s are the 7 or the 8js? amazing looking wheels
These ones are 8j. Cheers!
@@andowerks1968 thanks!
Good info bro, loved your shifter fix, skills 👏👏 what they charge up in Auckland for the box work ? Mines still getting panel work done but got all this to come
thanks Mark, between $1500-2000. But that was including: - buying the rb20det box off them - Getting the box reconditioned - and the mods to fit the L series bell housing etc I ended up giving them my old box internals and stuff as well. Pretty good value I think. I'm not sure they would want to do it again for that cheap because I think it was a bit more work than they bargained for, but maybe they know how to do it now so it might be easier
Toyota Land Cruiser 60, 70 series 🇯🇵❤️💪👍👆🎥😍👍 the best of the best 4×4!!!!
My mate. Hope you are fine😊
Hi, Would you mind saying what clutch brand you used and if you still used the same flywheel from the previous swap video?
Hi, my local clutch shop actually put together a bit of a custom one for me, so I can't tell you a brand or model sorry. But it is exactly the same clutch and Kameari flywheel setup that I used for the old gearbox, and it still works perfectly.
@@andowerks1968 Thank you!
sweet as bro, I have an orig condition beige 94 HZJ troopy and love it to bits, that 60 would be pretty rare by now - keep using it so it doesn't fade away. 👍 👏
Those rims look mint! 👌 Being Australian I’m familiar with the comment about ‘the superlites being anything but’ 😂
👍🏼
New wheels lookl great mate! so much better. Love the classic silver as well.
Thanks man, appreciate that. Yeah think the silver is pretty timeless and gives me freedom with the paint as well
Wow how do you go over a speed bump?
Just drive straight over them haha It has to be a pretty bad one or a big curb or something for it to scrape
What tire size are running on the front and the back on style 5 wheels?
205/50r16, all around
What tire size you’re running on the front and the back? thank you
205/50r16
New sub! Great work and attention to detail. Currently working on a 71 240Z here in California. Wish I had a shop/garage like yours. How is the fitment on that steering rack bushing (R side)? Also wanted to get your thoughts on how the ride is after changing it all to poly?
Thanks. Appreciate it. Unfortunately our shop is a big mess at the moment, full of things from home during renovations. Hopefully be able to clear it all out soon and have a nice useable space. That rack bushing wasn't ideal, but it's in there and holding up well and doing its job. It all depends on your roads and how you use your car. Our roads are terrible. I'm working towards making my car a bit of compliant. But there is a lot of not ideal things happening with my setup as is, like lack of adjustment to dial in alignment and parasitic rate from bushings and poor geometry. I plan on swapping some bushings back to OEM rubber. The poly does make it feel nice and tight but is probably a bit harsher. If your car is just cruiser with spirited driving then there is no need for poly bushes. If you track it, make heaps of power, or drive really hard. then sure it's worth it. Sometimes bushing compliance is designed into suspension on purpose and is a good thing. Probably not the case with an old car like ours though.
@@andowerks1968 Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the feedback. I am in the process of taking apart the suspension on my 71. My main areas of bushings to replace are the outer tie rod, tension control arms, and steering rack since they are pretty much torn/ worn out. I was debating on oem rubber vs poly since they are roughly around the same price (although poly may be cheaper) I am running stock L24 and plan mostly street/ spirited driving. I am now leaning towards staying oem. Keep it up man, awesome channel you got here. Love the brand and quality vids. Keep that shop clean 🤙🏽
@@jaidtheband Sounds great. I think stick with OEM, replace as many of the bushings, tie rod ends and ball joints as you can. Other than that, good shocks and good tires and it will drive great. Enjoy!
So you got 5 lug arm swaps from an e36 and put them on your e30 so you could fit 5 lug options now right? I have 16x8 style 5s too but am in sort of a dilemma on how I’m going to fit them. Should I fill/red rill or get adapters?
Yes it's got e36 M3 evo stuff up front and compact stuff in the rear, although the reason for doing this wasn't to fit 5 lug wheels, thats just an outcome. Personally I wouldn't swap to 5 lug just to fit a set of wheels (maybe if they were a very special set of wheels). If you are making heaps of power or tracking the car with big brakes then maybe it's worth it. But there are lots of great 4 lug wheel options out there. Never re-drilled any hubs myself, so can't comment on that. Nor have I run adaptors. It would work but you need to consider the offset of your wheels, the scrub radius, extra weight and safety
Hi, I'm doing a gear box swap like the one on your car but for a 280zx. Can you help me with a little question please?
Of course. Hopefully I can help
You must have the only functioning 240Z clock in the southern hemisphere! Have you verified the diff ratio? The reason I ask is that my ADM '73 auto was factory-fitted with a 3.90. I was under the impression that only the USDM cars had the 3.54 gears.
haha yeah the clock is funny, the ticking is so loud when the car isn't running. When I swapped the speedo drive from the Auto box to the manual box (in a previous video) it was the Black 17 tooth version, which from everything I can find online says 3.545 final drive, and my speedo seems to read accurate. I can't remember if I checked the diff gears when I had the cover off. But I remember turning the input flange and the outputs seems to correspond with 3.5 ish. Thats interesting though, my car is also an ADM '73 auto.
Currently going through a 5-speed swap on my ‘71 BMW 2002 and I definitely feel you on encountering all these obstacles. Congrats on finishing!
Love 2002’s! Very frustrating especially when things go wrong that are out of your control. Thanks and good luck
Sick video as always !
love the video !!! great work !
Thanks! appreciate that
Beautiful cars bro. Which one is more comfortable on road?
60 series is a lot more comfortable on road. Its heavier and has a wider track. Also its quieter than the troopy
@@andowerks1968 The 12H-T is quite noisy as an engine, The 2H is smooth. :)
Andy did well building this
Yeah he put together a cool car. Just needed some dialling in... a few wiring things and some mechanical stuff. But its a great combo and nice car with the slick top coupe and black interior
Aaaaah good ol Andys E30 haha
Good old Reuben the weapon help me with my gearbox too 🤙🏼
Congrats on your purchase bro! I know the feeling of saving up for something you’ve wanted. I just bought myself the ST XTA’s for my MK7 GTI. Reasons why are 1. They utilize the KW V2 and KW Clubsport parts (just not coated for protection), 2. Linear front springs, and 3. They come with camber plates. The KW variants don’t come with camber plates, except for the very expensive Clubsport’s, which would be complete overkill for my car, so I decided against them.
Ill be doing the opposite of this tomorrow lol. After running the urethane air damn for years im digging the stock air dam for a change
beautiful cars. useful, practical and reliable. awesome video man
Great progress! Don’t forget to source the metal plate that goes over the rubber shifter boot so the screws don’t chew up the rubber.
thanks! I didn't even think of that haha makes a lot of sense, felt like there was something missing, box is out at the moment for an upgrade (video coming soon) so i'll make sure I get one!
Do you know how much a strut weighs?
I'm not sure sorry
Cool van, is it coil rear?
Thanks! Yes coil rear
Looks great Bro 👍
What spring rate are the KW’s?
40N/mm (4K). front and rear
Thanks 👍🏻
Ahh, would have invested into these for my fd3s, unfortunately they only made some for speed academy, boo. So I bought fortune auto 510's, great coilovers. Still would have liked to have the lifetime warranty
Love a good FD! Surprising they don't offer them for those, i'd expect that to be a popular set
