A bit of a more professional video here. I've wanted to make a short video essay type thing since last year on this topic and I finally had the motivation to do so lol. This is an opinionated video on my personal issues I have with Minecraft and why I PERSONALLY play beta Minecraft. I tried not beating a dead horse here since there's already a million videos like this one. TIMESTAMPS: - Part 1:...

Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 Xray Quick Tutorial
Not trying to discredit the rest of the video but one specific thing that has to be said because everyone gets it wrong: Armadillo and wolf rework was not a part of Tricky Trials, it was its own small update that happened in April Also if that were not true, they do fit in Tricky Trials because that update is about combat and Armadillos essentially made a whole new combat style viable by making wolves not instantly die when exposed to any danger
Actually its the person who said some firefies kill frogs so blame them not mojang
if you really like beta then i’d highly recommend the b1.7.3 mod: better than adventure. it’s like a glimpse into the path minecraft would’ve taken if the adventure update(s) never happened. it manages to add quite a lot of new features while maintaining the feel and simplicity of beta, i highly recommend it.
A couple of days ago I read a comment and someone said "I miss old minecraft when people would just build whatever they felt was right but nowadays everything is either copied from reddit or some youtube video" and I fully agree with that. I am currently playing on an SMP with a friend in 1.21.1, I could not live without modern minecrafts features and we also use quite a few mods (200+) but our main focus is building. Of course we have farms set up that automate certain things like an Iron Farm and I personally also have an automated Paper Farm with the new Crafter blocks and an automatic wool farm with all wool colors but those are mainly just to have these resources readily available for building because since I've read this comment I've just been going wild, building massive structures that are often useless but look cool and just generally building not in a way I think would look good to most people but that looks good to me. This is how I play now and having these automatic farms to have the building materials readily available is really helpful because I cannot be bothered to go look for 17,000 (yes that number is not exaggerated) pieces of Iron to craft Iron Blocks, I'd rather just have the Iron Farm going that produces all that for me while I'm building something else so I can get to it immediately. Currently sitting at 3 1/2 double chests full of Iron Blocks and I don't think that's quite enough for the build I have planned. To put it simply, Minecraft whether modern or old is what you make of it, if you dislike the meta of automating everything then just don't, if you have friends that do this and you don't like it then don't play with them and just do whatever you feel is right. (On that note I once played with a friend and we loaded up the world for the first time and within 10 minutes of the world existing he was full diamond gear and armor, I really disliked that so I never played with him again)
I want to put share opinions on why I don't like modern Minecraft aswell even tho noone asked (keep in mind that theese are MY OWN OPINIONS): 1) The feel of modern vs the feel of before 1.9: I like Minecraft 1.8 (not the beta one) because even tho it didn't have much, the game speaks to you saying "build whatever you want" and "create everything you want", nowdays in modern Minecraft specially after 1.9... The game doesn't speaks to me like that anymore... Modern Minecraft feels like scrolling on tiktok (this might be an overexaggeration) because the game gives you so much stuff that there's no reason for you to create new... This might be just me but I feel like the game already have so much stuff that there is no reason for you to make more, and so it stopped speaking to you "build whatever you want", it feels like Minecraft but with mods that you can't remove. 2) The 1.9 combat system: Another thing I don't like is 1.9 combat system because I really liked playing in servers skywars and survival games back in the days and the spamclick was just a way to make you feel good, and when you kill someone you feel awesome. Nowdays it... Feels like you need to think more on strategies and beware of people that knows all of the strategies that can kill you in 1 second and you don't even know how it happened... There was an old Minecraft trailer saying "The limit is your imagination" but at least in my opinion, this new combat system limited the game... They feel more like you need to learn A LOT of new strategies and keeping up with them doesn't feel like you're playing a game but more like you're learning things to be able to beat someone in a championship or whatever lol and if you don't learn them... Welp you're screwd. Do you remember the maps where you need to kill lots of zombies with spamclick? I like theese but with the 1.9 combat is... It just doesn't feel as fun as it was before. 3) The new texture: Yeah I know it can be disabled but now I see it everywhere over the internet because it is default... I think this changed Minecraft's old feeling a lot, I liked the old feeling and of course I didn't ask the new texture but... Here it is I guess? Idk what led to this tbh but if players are happy with it, then they'd be happy, but I'll use the old texture because it just looks better for me. 4) The shaders: This is not modern Minecraft related but *I guess* that modern minecraft is guilty for this because of how it feels nowdays. I see a lot of youtube videos with shaders and let me ask you a question: could you watch Stampy's Lovely World's last video without having an headace? Because I sure did... And it was because of the shader he uses in his videos. Sometimes I just go on old videos that are poorly edited with kids playing with other kids while voice calling them on Skype and I see 10-30 FPS gameplay of them playing Idk like survival games or castlewars with a pvp texture pack while talking about other stuff that doesn't really matter and I just prefer watching theese because they just feels like there is more content there. Now this doesn't feel like a modern Minecraft issue but to me I guess that modern Minecraft is guilty lel. (And yes I watched TommyInit and other people but I just didn't find much fun in there because theese channels look like they are scripted.) Conclusion) Modern Minecraft is not very bad, it just feels like "Minecraft but with Microsoft mods incorporated" and yes Ik that 1.8 was created when Microsoft bought Mojang but THAT felt like a major version of the game, I mean it was a tiny little bit of "Microsoft influence" and to me it was ok, like putting the right amount of salt in a soup, if you put too much it tastes salty. I played with my friend on a server in 1.16 and we were exploring with mods, then we went on another server we made with mods on 1.7.10 and we IMEDIATELY started building stuff and having ideas of new buildings, we didn't have such feelings in 1.16 and I kinda miss them. Let me know what you think about the things I said freely, just don't be mean please, I am aware I might made a mistake here and there lol. Have a nice day :D
I'm glad you touched on adding redundant gimmicky things. Having to add a new mob just to make signs and item frames easier to see and a new mob to add yet another scute that serves even less purpose than turtle scutes is just unnecessary. Dog armor could have been implemented without armadillos needing to win the mob vote, and we lost out on the crab claw which would have been a genuinely useful item that I don't see a good way of implementing with what's currently in the game. Now that the mob vote is gone I think we should be seeing a lot less of these ridiculous additions to the game. The Creaking has some cool functionality so I have faith that Mojang can continue come up with interesting and meaningful additions and changes to the game. But of course "less is more" is a saying for a reason and for some people adding more stuff will inherently detract from the game. I can't argue that they're wrong to enjoy a simpler version of the game.
I agree that Beta is not better than Modern Minecraft, and that both have their charms and draws. There's a whole discussion worth of ideas that i have that i feel lead to where we are now, and my personal thoughts and opinions, but ill keep it short and say that: I think we were bound to get to this point later rather than sooner. I personally still play modern because it's generally what all my friends play on, and i enjoy the block diversity, but there is a part of me that misses the old Beta days, with good friends now gone. I hope you all have a wonderful and lovely day.
I have been playing on my Minecraft beta 1.4 beta world for almost a year now, I can’t tell you how much more I enjoy it than modern Minecraft despite the lack of features. I’ve just been terraforming and building up a town It’s been really fun
Great video!!
Beta is an incomplete, buggy mess, Modern Minecraft is actually stable, and has alot of cool features.
doesnt discredit those who enjoy it. some find peace in simplicity
Naaah, problem is community. Like, literally, what is fandom of modern minecraft? Its just PVP nerds or kids with their @e type=[youtube:genericminecraftchannel] with videos like 51 facts about old minecraft! Or surviving 100 days in minecraft <<put specific theme here>>. And if second category is just players that doesnt really care about anything, first category in solo survival world gets pretty messy and metamorphosing in another sub-category of players that alike PVP trying to be "cool and effective", making 1000 redstone farms that reduces everything you can do in a world to one building and turning sandbox in factory. To enjoy minecraft you just have to.. Forget how to be effective. Be useless, do dumb stuff, build a pig race track, build a shooting range with sniffers to shoot, build a minecart station, just forget about netherite and progression, infact to access the whole world of minecraft you only need diamond pickaxe to make a portal, then all you need is iron one.
Wow what a great video! I agree with pretty much all your points :)
I still want 2-pixel bug :<
Great video! I feel the same exact way.
10:37 I really don't know what it is about the house but it feels so nostalgic to me.
I can see myself not being able to play modern in a few years time. I'm a person who greatly appreciates clarity of thought and space, so after a mining trip, I love (in beta) how my chests aren't full of random clutter like they are in modern. But ofc it's different for everyone! All my friends greatly enjoy modern mc and that's totally fine, we're different :D
Just give us options. Why do I need to download a mod to remove hunger and make items heal instead. That could just be a toggleable option. Why make me go back to 1.7.3 for that awesome world generation, just make that an option or at least give an option for 1.7.3 biomes to generate
5:07 You were so close, comrade!
if so, why are you playing 1.20 in the video?
i stated i dont hate modern, ive just got some issues with it. i still like playing the game :) also its just the footage i had recorded at the time haha
ace vid!
Its not like you can turn off spawning structures, nonono totally not
i know that is an option. the issue with this though is that it disables ALL structures which isnt really fair. i think the core issue should be worked on rather than ignoring it and forcing players who dont like it to turn them off :)
Good video, also you kinda sound like the dub voice for the character "Kurapika" in Hunter x Hunter lol
I really hope they have the previous mobs voters too because there are 11 Mobs that Mojang needs to add from the vote
I really do think vanilla Minecraft is better than beta Minecraft you Minecraft players you complain too much just because you didn't like one thing that Mojang added why can't you never be Minecraft Happy Minecraft is the biggest game in the world and it's the best game in the world so stop thinking Minecraft is dying when actually it isn't well it will die if it continues loses popularity I get that Minecraft players are losing interest in the game well they said Minecraft will last for another 50 years
The reason armadillo skuts are in the game it's because of wolf armor turtle skuts just wouldn't work
Beta is definitely better
Why did you make that statue with the Notch head 8:47
That's a statue of me
do you understand, that all your criticism of new Minecraft apply to old Minecraft too?, gold tools, lapis and pigs are just some examples of old "bloat", having any structures at all takes away the canvas feeling, Minecraft updates today are way bigger then they used to be, if added fireflies would just be another useless mob to complain about, same thing for the mob vote losers, the only reason you play the "meta" is because you decide to , Minecraft is giving you free regular updates updates, and better yet lets you play the older versions of the game, which people like to take for granted, ask any community of any other game, and they will tell you that they wish they got the treatment that the minecraft community gets
It's kinda different when these things were added in 2009 when one individual was developing the game, and setting the foundations for his own personal vision. It's kinda different when one of the world's largest companies working on what was once the world's most popular game can't get their ducks in a row.
@ while that might be true, saying you prefer to play an older version of the game because of a list of things you don’t like about the modern version while those same things exit in the version you like playing is a little hypocritical
Oh boy time to yap: overall its fair to not like a version, and honestly this is the best video ive seen discussing modern minecraft vs beta. There really isnt a clear winner and i like that this feels more of an argument for how good beta minecraft is to this day, it does make me want to try and play an old version as a challenge one day. But, that being said i do like yapping and breaking down the reasonings for people's opinions and i wanna point out the minor issues i have with your arguments: 1:16 this one is fair, the past few updates included some nice stuff out of context but with how the caves and cliffs update was handled... it definitely felt underwhelming to see the vision of the update being split into 3 parts. And with the silly reasoning with the firefly not being added still urks me to this day, I do think people should reflect on what was added rather than what was not, because honestly we got some pretty nice additions to the game despite it all. 3:59 again this one is also fair, not many people particularly enjoy seeing their favorite mobs get kicked off the face of the earth because one got the most votes. I was one who particularly loved the concept of the copper golem, he looked like a funny dude and i wouldve happily made a redstone build that was decided by the golem pressing one button or not. I will say i disagree with the idea that the armadillo has no involvement with the trial chambers, it introduced wolf armor which ended up being incredibly useful when its behavior got reworked to absorb both fire and creeper explosions, let alone just basic hits from zombies, spiders and skeletons. this makes bringing a wolf with you to a chamber actually worth while, since they scare off skeletons and boggs. One major issue im noticing from the first 2 arguments is while theyre fair, they have nothing to do with what modern minecraft offers in terms of gameplay, this is simply an argument that mojang hasnt been doing well at managing updates and their mob votes. which is fair, ive warmed up to the fact that what we got was pretty good but i will still be on the fence hoping that they learned their mistakes and will change things around for the better. the future of 1.22 and their new update cycles seem interesting and i hope this means they plan to release smaller but more consistent updates that people are happy with. 5:24 ok this i have a personal problem with. not because i dont see the point youre trying to make but because this is part of an argument that urks me. where do we draw the line between wanting more mobs with functionaility and adding "too many gimmicks". because not all the mobs have to contribute to your day to day gameplay, if they did, this would only fuel the point you make later about the "meta" being an issue, i just want mobs that have a fun interaction personally, not give me a new enchantment that only they can give me, or a mace equivalent for the crabs arms or some random bizarre addition. 6:11 im mixed on this. I completely agree that the modern community is abysmal, but thats a biproduct imo of people being exposed to games all about progression and "work". Players nowadays are obsessed with having the best playthrough in the most efficient way possible. But my main argument against this is what you mentioned later on. While we cant change their minds on how to play minecraft, that doesnt mean we have to play like them, this is a sandbox game through and through where the player gets to decide how they play. And its good that youre attempting to slow down and try and do what you want to do. And honestly imo the best examples of youtubers playing minecraft for fun are the people from hermitcraft, seeing them do their own thing and creating memories with each other and online is what makes minecraft (to me at least) fun. 8:00 now this is an interesting reason for liking beta. I think thats fair and its why i enjoy games like no mans sky when im exploring their planets, it feels empty and i like exploring a place that no one has ever been to. However, an easy rebuttle to this is by turning off "generate structures". Thats the best way to recreate that same feeling, and id argue it would be even cooler if it meant you could make your own village from scratch thanks to villager zombies being a spawnable entity. 9:00 this last one is a pretty good viewpoint on "less is more". However while i agree that creativity is at its best when you have limited blocks to use, that doesnt mean it cant be the same as modern minecraft, Building in survival has its benefits by being more rewarding when you obtain a new block that fits your build. Hell ive been so happy with the addition of bamboo planks because i now can create some wonderful houses out of the funny green sticks. Again this isnt a big issue i have because i understand the sentiment. honestly i have to say again i do like this video, its well structured and while i dont think your points are convincing that doesnt mean they arent valid, they make a good point that beta has alot to offer even if it doesnt have as much as modern minecraft, and i think its fair to not like how mojang has managed minecraft recently. I just wish the community would stop making scare tactics in order to sell that the game is hopeless and needs an overhaul.
BTA has tall birch forests AND fireflies!
Been 7+ years since I played minecraft. You had just expressed everything I had thought. Well done
There's something lethal about this company
holy shit... the company... is lethal...
I love this so much haha! This game does a good job of making everyone look gormless. 😂
you should play...... join me......
Boeing Simulator
real
I hate to be this guy but the armadillo’s came out in their own update the armored paws aka 1.20.5
yeah i completely forgot that when writing and recording 😭
I dont play beta, I build like If I was still in beta. I have NEVER once changed my building style and I'm proud of what I can make with this style.
Player87 is writing. Nice video man, minecraft is really nice to look at.
despite not actually playing it when it came out, my first memories of minecraft was actually of beta (probably). i remember watching a lot of a youtube series of a group of friends playing minecraft when i was younger, and they had no hunger, so obviously before 1.8 beta. then i got minecraft and was super confused when i saw the hunger bar. dunno exactly when i got minecraft but it was probably some time between 2012-2014.
anyways i've been playing some beta recently and i feel like i can actually just jump in and build instead of doing things, which is a nice change of pace. i'm considering creating a beta server for my friends, since it wouldn't be much of a time commitment if they don't want it to, and they all don't have much time with school and work. but i haven't run it by them yet.
also sadly i no longer remember who i watched that made me into minecraft. but i think i remember them spewing some conspiracy shit that i believed cause i was like 6 (but promptly forgot about) so maybe it's a good thing
I agree about the market place and will like to add the suffocating all over your face aggressive marketing for realms when in reality both options are offered by the community with better qualities and offers
New Nvidia popup this is fake!!!
NUH UH!!!
try playing this "modernbeta" server, its on the latest version of minecraft but theyre trying to make it indistinguishable from actual beta, boxblair's made a video on it so far and is making a series on it, the player base is pretty chill too.
been on it before actually, real nice server and its very impressive :)
where the timestamps at 😢😮
cool video tho ❤ no hate
theyre in the description :)
Well... at least you aren't like Sipover, who literally says that old minecraft was BETTER because it had less diversity of blocks... Also, I find it funny how y'all like beta more because of limitations, kinda reminds me of Jesse Keeler as he once said he propaply really enjoys limitations, as he is in a band with just 2 people.
Sorry for the long essay, but i see no one bringing up this point so here it goes: The Modern Minecraft Terrain Generation Problem- I'm going to postulate that the problem started with the Elytra. Now that you can fly (end game loot, btw) Mojang had to make the terrain more enormous. Not only that, but Mojang also assumes that people have beefy computers that can render VERY FAR for muh vistas. Minecraft feels more Oppressive because of the beefy mountains and the vacuous caves. It is no longer "cozy" where YOU are "god" of this world and are impelled to make it come to life. You see that mountain over there as big as Everest? Yeah, try and make THAT on your own! How can you compete with that? The mountain is the focal point and not YOUR creations. It's as if Minecraft turned the player into an ant, insignificant against the mighty world generation that does all the "impressive terraforming" for you and Without You. That your creations are just tacked on blemishes against the beauty of the world gen. It makes me sad and feel completely disconnected as I have to try and strain myself to make my builds flow more seamlessly into the landscapes (most humans want to preserve nature around their homes and thus this instinct is carried over when we play Minecraft) It feels bad when you want to make something but have to destroy a pretty hillside. Not only that but also an Over-Abundance of little points of interests scattered around in what feels like every 20 or so chunks. Shipwrecks, ruined portals, witch huts. villages (which used to be a rare sight) underwater ruins etc. They are too numerous and are places for easy loot. Why? Now Minecraft feels like a Linear game, going from point of interest A to point of interest B, etc. etc. Endless Distractions. The world is already populated.... It doesn't need you anymore....... I hate that this game gives off the same vibe as in real life. The world is already full and your intervention ultimately is meaningless... TL;DR: Minecraft is no longer your blank canvas. It is now a frustrating/constricting picture where by you add your creativity on an already crowded and finished canvas...
Minecraft is too big of a game with a lot of kids playing it... it will never have a good update again. Risks are too high to be really creative again. Minecraft just feels so soft and cartoony now days. When i was a kid it was this dark, rough and gritty game with very shitty simulation feel to it. Wich was the main apeal to it. Cus it didnt feel it wasnt made for kids but was literallu legos. Modern day minexraft just lost its charm. The cartoonyness is scaring off herobrine
About frogs and fireflies... ... you can WILLINGLY poison a parrot with cocoa seeds.
