Old School Bmx.Summer Progression Session
My first bmx bike was a 1978ish Schwinn mag scrambler with black tuff wheels. It was chrome and had the same handle bars and stem as yours but flat steel forks. The seat stays bent at the seat post and were welded to each side of the top tube a couple inches past the seat post. My brothers had the boat anchor moto mags. Parents took us to Pat's Schwinn cyclery in Mesa to get an idea of what we wanted and they were in the family room Christmas morning. Greatest Christmas of my youth. I'm almost 55 and still love BMX bikes because of it. Sweet Mongoose BTW. I've always loved looptail frames. They look so cool.
That’s a good story thanks!
Bike looks awesome, what colour did you use , colour code ?
Its the Coral color attempt made by C4 Labs in Delaware. A color Haro used in 1988. Not sure of the code, I had them do it for me.
Are these pretty light?
Not too bad. I would just call them A Typical for a set of cranks. If you’re an old-schooler you need to have a set in your arsenal. Grab them up.!
@@generationofbmx yeah I’d put them on my 600a. I’ve been debating. I got the sugino on there now
I can't wait to see them restored that is a awesome haul just 375 that's a steal!!!
Glorious
Should have titled "Buns of Steel"😂😂
I need a break!
I think I saw that frame in the gay pride parade Wham segment
I got a 81 cromo reay similar
Nice!
Adam has always been a natural rider and wanted to ride like him. We grew up in neighboring towns in NJ. Who's the other guy? he's pretty good too
nice! keep it up
Thanx
Onde você comprou?

You've got, pure gold....so brov, out of respect 🙏, you need to go back, and give the gentleman, another $125....it's the right thing to do....just saying....

Cool scores bruv!
Thnx. Still stoked when I think about it.
I'm 51 years old and still ride my 20" bikes everyday!
Me too!
Me 3!
@@waktosha7378 🤣
I had the huffy version (clone) of this, which came out in 1980, with aluminum yellow mags. I absolutely LOVED that bike.
I wish they would do a modern flatland version with a short back end etc,
Me too!
My redline cranks just arrived. Going on my Monza 26. Its going to look awesome.
Sounds great. Stoked tor you!
Your looking for a miracle cure but you honestly need to save for a new roof or sell. The nail will continue to pop, and cause leaks. Thats the honest truth
3 piece Redline flight cranks are my favorite 3 piece cranks, back in the mid to later 1980’s I had those cranks on my chrome GT Pro Series XL bmx bike! Now I’m thinking of buying some 175mm flight cranks to put them on my 26 inch Ebike build. 🙂
Nice!
wow
This is a cool video love haro
Congrats man!! That’s a BEAUTY!! Are you still riding it?
Man, I got so many bikes I don’t know which ones to ride so I’m not riding this one at the moment
That a U.G.L.Y. color Master , don’t get me wrong I own 4 Masters myself , is that like a coral pink ? In my opinion I’ve seen some bad color schemes come out of Haro like yellow on red , just ugly . I don’t have to say that Masters are in a class of their own & once you own one , you don’t settle for anything less .
Its a colorway Haro had as an option in their 1988 line up. As you mentioned, its called Coral. Its a very difficult shade of red that many painters cant create. If you want more information on it do your research.
Junk
Really? You think so!?!🤣 Thats an all original, untouched Mongoose Pro-Class in smoked chrome. All factory original. The tires are even original. I’ve seen these bring up to $3000. The Schwinn brings anywhere from $3-500 dollars. Lol!
Yes..my friend in the uk in 1984 had a chrome proclass...at that time it was worth almost £500 sterling....thats the top shelf mongoose right there🤘🤘
Even still hss the original pedals
Yep completely original...thats worth a few grand
@@jamesgallagher1992 I don’t even think I’m gonna take it apart to re-grease it. I’m just gonna leave it in it’s as is condition to make it that more authentic. 🙂
what did you use to dissolve the rust? meguiars wax or what is the product? That vintage stove in the living room is epic. love that old stuff
Hi it was car polish. A liquid polymer. Just let it sit for a while per instructions before wiping it off. The rust wasn't really pitted. Mainly just light surface rust. Mainly used the car polish to just put a nice protective coat, shine, and a nice cleaning to the frame. Not really to be used as a rust remover. If the rust would have been bad i would have given the frame an OA Bath. 🙂 I had an old house at that time. I used two of those stoves, one in the front and one in the back, of the house to help assist the furnace with heating. One was left from previous seller and the other one was purchased for only $150 bucks on Craigslist and they work better than the new $2000 dollar stoves that the EPA puts restrictions on! 🙂 Stay Rad
Just received some Redline flight cranks, waiting for other parts to arrive for my Skyway Street beat build, can't wait
Yeah they most definitely are a great addition to a build!
Where did you get them
From the official Dcshoe website. Dont think they have them anymore.
Well since the video was posted many many moons ago, how did the crank hold up?
Just fine. Running another set in chrome on my 2017 Red Retro Master! Gotta have at least one set of these on one of my builds.
@@generationofbmxon the second build did you put the spacer in?
@@Shovelhead-Greg No! I haven’t put spacers in any of my three-piece Cranks sets, except for the very first set I ever put in, and I never have any problems with it. all of my riders right now currently have three piece cranks and none of them have the spacers in it and I’m doing just fine without it. Obviously you just don’t want to crank down the bolts too hard and over tighten anything but you shouldn’t do that anyway, whether you have a spacer in or not.
@@generationofbmxsounds good. Just wondering longevity and whatnot
@@Shovelhead-Greg yeah all good. Thnx
Man that turned out great. Your Performer looks awesome! I also have a 91 Performer... Think I might do the conversion as well. 👍
Fun project and the bike rides so much better!
Frame china or taiwan?
Taiwan
@@generationofbmx thanks
it was me ephrym who found the arrowhead not ezra
Beautiful bike! 😃👍
First
Dang I just uploaded dat! True Subscriber right here folks! 🙂
are those for 1/2 pedals?
No. All 3 piece cranks take 9/16 ONLY!
Rat bike is a roadmaster amf sprocket gives it away it would have sissy bar banana seat and ape bars
Yeah it probably did but my friend that I bought it from probably removed them at some time and tried to make it look cooler.Thanks.
I’ll buy the wheels ( tomahawks)
I rode that bike from the time I was 7 to 15. Lots of memories seeing it again. Cheers.
Hey buddy have a original haro freestyler and was wanting to keep it but play around with new parts on the original frame. Do they make a conversion headset to fit new school forks?
Yes absolutely! I know a guy who makes/modifies them so you can run a newschool fork and stem. I do it all the time. Check out my GT performer video here on my channel.
Why does everyone neglect to use the spindle spacer between the BB bearings?
Probably because it takes some time to accurately measure and cut them so they fit properly in place. And not all bottom brackets are equal in width and one size will not fit all for that particular placement. Also, in my case, i can use the weight reduction and I’ve never had a problem with my bearings from not having it. Its a win win for me.
@@generationofbmx I’d argue that measuring the req’d spacer length takes approximately 15 seconds. Can easily be done before bearings are seated (subtract width of both bearings) or with one of both bearings installed. (Obviously need to remove at least one to slide in spacer… another 20 seconds). Every BB I’ve ever bought came with a larger spacer plus additional small spacers to add as needed. Multiple new and old/mid school bigs with different BB widths and I’ve never had to fabricate a custom spacer. I never liked the idea of putting lateral pressure on bearings when torquing down bolts, especially when doing it right is so easy.
I just bought a set for a decade build I’m doing and love them.. esp not needing the tool to put them on.
True that I’m not a huge fan of spline drive cranks either but the more you get used to them the easier they are to get on and off
@@generationofbmx I just got my first set of gt 68 spline or whatever and ya… they suck esp first time on lol. As you said though it’s all getting familar with it.
