Agree, although there is a cover by Garfunkel, I believe.
Peter O'Toole played a plaboy character who was supposed to get married. But his encounters with various women has kept him from the alter.
Leuve the bureau in the snow. Catch a tram to onkel po. Early evening ring around the moon. Slip in by the conciërge. By the bikes and up the stairs. Slap the latch and creep into the room throw off your coat pick up the post and put a Coffee on. Lie down on the bed lay back your head. And smoke a cigarette. And listen to the radio. Listen to the radio in the city late tonight. Double feature black and white. Bitter tears and taxi to the klo. Find a bar avoid a fight show your papers be polite. Walking home with nowhere else to go. Throw off your coat pick up my note. And put another Coffee on. Lie down on the bed lay back your head and smoke another cigarette. Listen to the radio listen to the radio atmospherics after dark. Noise and voices from the past across the dial from moscow to cologne interference in the nigtht thousand miles on either side. Stations fading into the unknown. So throw off your coat we'll butter some toast and put another Coffee on. We'll lie down on the bed lay back our heads. Smoke another cigarette Listen to the radio. Listen to the radio. We'll listen to the radio. Listen to the radio. All night long
I had the Just a Boy album when it first came out. It was quirky, but good I wish I could get it in CD.
A top five personal favorite. Heard it first in 1976 during my first college semester. It echoed a love lost that year. The song creates imagery that pulls you in. I still go back to that year whenever I hear this beautifully written song
The popular version features Springsteen's distinctive singing voice much better. It's actually hard for me to compare them, since this is a folk song, the other one is a rock song.
59 years later I learned who wrote it 😮
I bought this album in 1978 as a cutout and this song has been with me ever since. Still listening 50 years later.
I had “that kiss that night ” and as much as I tried, it was never to be repeated. I stood on the sidewalk and looked up at his apartment window, where he was laughing with another girl.
I been listening to Tim's music since the release of his debut album, then I managed to buy his second, Behind The Eyes. My favorite song is still Second Avenue, Art Garfunkel's version is ok, but not a patch on Tims. There are many songs from both albums, 70% of which could easily become top ten singles. Where has he gone! come on Tim, we don't want to wait another 50 years for a few more gems. Perhaps come out of retirement and do a few live gigs even?!
A masterpiece.
Heard it first time tonight while hopping from station to station on the Radio Garden app. I was listening to the "True North" radio station broadcasting from Yellowknife, Canada.
Hauntingly beautiful. A heart remembers and stands still.

A fantastic track, pure class, love it.😊
A typical song to drink too much coffee and smoking all the time, but there's one problem: I don't smoke.
In an ironic twist of fate, I now live on Third Avenue, at 72 years of age still with hope.
I'm writing this comment fully aware you'll never read it and that's totally understandable. I'm a former professional guitarist, we're the same age. I'm a Baltimore native and I've made my career playing multiple genres whatever it took to make a living playing guitar. Rubbed a few elbows, worked a few recording sessions for singer songwriters and artists and spent five continuous years with the Satisfactions based out of Washington DC living in hotels and playing nightclubs six nights a week. I first heard this song Second avenue in 1974 by Art Garfunkel released as a single. Unfortunately never heard your original version on the radio until lately on RUclips. I remember getting booked at Fran O'Brien's Anthony House under contract, I played for a Baltimore based band Sunshine. We were booked frequently at a location in Rehobeth Beach Delaware. I remember hearing this song during my three hour drive alone heading back to my apartment in Forest Hill Maryland. Everyone loves a beautiful love song but I think as a fellow musician and artist you know that certain songs strike a place in our hearts and minds that hit us unexpectedly. Your original version is terrific. I'm going to cover it and post it on my RUclips channel if you don't mind. I want to share it with as many people who would appreciate it. I'm an unknown slug, it's not for profit. Thanks again for a beautiful song.
Lovely
Love this. Recently heard it on the radio, ironically!
The version that sounds the most Bacharach. It's got more of the BB feel. This is the better MM version too because Paul Jones voice isn't doubled.
Prachtig
This is best version hands down.
Another Bacharach David classic
What a great title for the last day of the year 2023 🎉
It's amazing where great music, like this song, can take a person to in their heart.
This should have been a similar breakout for TM as Piano Man was for Billy Joel. Same time frame and pop ethos,
Still loving this in 2023!
When I saw the Description I thought 2nd Ave.
And Listen to the 80s…whoohooohoooo
Butter some toast. Now that's good advice :)
1976, my first time getting dumped by a girlfriend and this song played a lot.
Geweldig wat een mooie teksten ❤
What a MESS....dreadfully AWFUL.

Together with Blue Nile’s Tinseltown in the Rain.. This song always takes me back to that wonderful 80’s melancholy. It was an attumn night in the heartland of the european low lands. When life seemed more simple but complex enough to drawn into a tune like this..
Here is the song i have been tryin to hear again. So unknown yet truly one of the most beautiful songs if a decade of beautiful songs. Tim needs to get the recognition that he deserves for this auditory gem of a song. So moody. So evocative. Maybe New York in the fall, exciting, bittersweet, haunting, all wrapped up into the lyrics of this AMAZING SONG. GOD BLESS, TIM MOORE!!! Also Shout out to RUclips. You have recoonected me with so many priceless memories of my youth and I am beyond grateful. Thank you seems inadequate.
Completely bad ass. Hopefully many of the acoustic demos will get an appropriate release.

I always loved this song. So very beautiful and sad and incredible words and music.
So unknown there are a dozen versions on RUclips. Most have better sound quality.
It's getting known now!!!!
I fell in absolute love with this hidden gem of a song. Damn, but the 70's so frequently produced hidden gems like this amazing song.
