The Busch-Gass Gambit- Best gambit in chess?
so is this not just the danish gambit but for black and some pieces are developed
I like the Ponziani Steinitz gambit better than the Traxler. Thoughts?
Looks tricky for sure, but I don't play the Traxler. The BGG Traxler line is a whole different beast with the e pawn gone. Even so though - I also don't play the fried liver, instead of Ng5 I'd play d5 Max Lange attack. Super deadly, tutorial on my channel called "there are more than 20 traps in this opening" :)
So if they take on move 3 I guess you go full Eric Rosen
Yes, Nc6, Nxf7, Bxf2!
Is there a way to destroy Ruy Lopez as black without too much theory? I'm tired of playing against it as black and it always leads to some 30+ theory moves that lead to the same endgame. Or when they exchange immediately it's even more boring and I just want to abort the game after that. And nobody allows me to play the Marshall attack because they know it's not fun for them. Bruh
FM William Graif has a strong gambit you can play against the Ruy Lopez - but personally, since I play the Busch Gass Gambit, I completely avoid all Spanish openings, and either get my gambit or an Italian game, which is easier to handle :) I recommend at least trying the BGG if you like gambits for black. Tutorial linked at the end of this vid
Thsi is great, well done.
Much appreciated!
This just made me remember how good duel of the fates is
trash gambit, i've never lost to it and i took every single time (my oppontents are probably trash)
Same, people should just learn real openings. And if you want to spice it up, it's not like there aren't real gambits that don't lose on move 2
@@sam2725Finally someone who shares the same opinion. At the 2000+ level these garbage tricks don't work anynore and you just end up losing
@@fili24tell FM William Graif that, he plays this stuff at 2400+. Whiny cunts you guys are
@@chrislevy42069 hehe, you think he got the fm title playing this stuff? 😂
@@sam2725 of course not, I'm not telling people to play this in OTB tournaments against GMs. I'm talking to the 98% of chess players under 2200 get outta here with your elitist narcissism.
Huge Graif fan.
Same here! Hoping to improve on his theory
Loved the gambit and the music!
Haha much appreciated!
lol, this guy is 1500 on blitz and variants, and he only plays unrated so his rapid rating never falls below 2300.. This guy probably isn't even 1800
Even so, Bg5 is the most common move in this gambit. He's just the first one I got with it, I'm sure there will be more.
Who cares?
@@chrislevy42069 But even after Bg5 black is completely lost, just grab the knight after e4? And even when white blunders with dxe, white can just respond Kh1 to Bxf2 and still white is better? White can literally walk into your 10 move deep trap, and he is still better 😂
So essentially it is a common opening, which baits them into playing a common defense, and then you bait them further with the pawn sacrifices. GG, well played, love it.
BGG isn't really too common, they can accept the gambit on move 2, 3, and now even move 4, 5, and 6. But much appreciated! Check out the video linked at the end if you haven't seen the opening before
@@chrislevy42069 Ahh, I see, I see. I was seeing it more so from the white side, their focus being pawn to e4, clear out knight, bishop, then castle, and by then the black pawn trap was set. Will have a look at the video ya linked, thank ya sir!
cannot wait!
Nice! Looking forward to the details 🤙
btw, isn't the stats better if we avoid casling?
It’s your buddy mandermoo!
AYYY! Glad to see you checkin out the channel!
3:00 LMAO
I got yelled at by someone else for that 😖🤣
F INTROS!!!!!!
Do you have repertoire against 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 * since i play the london crusher 9000 and budapest gambit. But i dont know what to do against 2. Nf3 the knight variation
I honestly recommend standard king's Indian defense, more useful in the long run... Other than that, you just play c5 2nd move anyway, which you have to study on your own
Oh and btw, please play 2...d5 against 2.Nc3... that shit has different traps (check wgraif video on Jobava London)
I have looked and looked, and unfortunately there is no way to consistently gambit against that position. You can try c5 like Xyrexia recommended, but there's lots of ways white can play even from there and it's generally not that tricky. That is why I will be showing another option against d4 soon... Keep an eye out
If you play rousseau and take that knight sac then you deserve to lose
Fair
Finally I find the best video to help defend against the italian game! Love the personality too my guy!
Much appreciated, glad to help!
This gambit is killer
Haha, much appreciated! Found this one all on my own :)
LOL. Hope he cried himself to sleep. Your humor always has me laughing in your narrated games. Like, subscribe, GFY and all that $hit. Hilarious. Peace Chris and excellent content too.
Thanks! Glad people like the humor hahaha
what do you think of the open italian scotch gambit? (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. d4 exd4 5. O-O Nxe4 )
I believe I play that with white, I have come to know it as the Max Lange, in particular I like to play the Nakhmanson gambit. I made a video on it called "There are more than 20 traps in this opening..." Hope that answers your question haha
I have a very good idea, us viewers will play games and share them in comments, so that people get more same games... Thoughts?
That would be sick, would we post links, or PGNs? Would it be better for me to just set up a discord?
Go ahead @@chrislevy42069
I actually play the pure smith morra, i didnt even consider the move order subtleties
I have had much better success against the Sicilian since I started playing this :) hope it helps, and if not there's still no problem at all playing a pure Morra
The bit with Esserman is worth putting in a lichess study
Working on putting one together
At least I won't be blundering into lines I don't wanna be in anymore. It's been frustrating as a Busch Gass player finding myself in an Italian with no real idea. That's over now thanks to you. Like to request a seperte video where you delve into that d4 line you talked about at the end for us Graif followers
Bro is really spoiling our attention span with a 5min video rather than 1 hr video
lol had a commenter say it was hard to remember all the lines, just trying to make everything memorable
Honnestly, that's very usefull to me ! Thank you so much ! I'll come back to the longer video when I will have played that for a bit !
Blackmar Deimer is the way to go for under 2k for sure! You may not be so lucky against a grandmaster but for everyone else, you're in the driver's seat.
Absolutely right!
@@chrislevy42069 Scandinavian players start to cry.
Lmao
Hey I know you! hahaha
@@chrislevy42069 hey Chris. I am a subscriber on your channel. I saw this video and made me crack up
Graif has a system called the London crusher 9000. I'm sure it's not for tournament play. But I bet it's fun.
Yup thats what I showed in the video haha. I wanted to put that, the Envy Gambit, and the declined lines in one video together.
@@chrislevy42069 Nice! I find videos from a student's perspective very fun. I'm trying out the London crusher 9000 from Graif! I'll definitely be interested in that video.
I've tried to learn the morra gambit, but these lines are so insane and so deep, they all look kind of similar but are so different. There are so many lines as well. I love to study openings but these Morra lines are so complicated to me, I cant remember these for some reasons. Every video I've watched are going so fast showing crazier and crazies lines. I feel like I will never face some of these anyway. I play the morra setup against anything and then we play a game 😂
So what I'll do for you is make a 2 minute Smith Morra Beginners breakdown, I think that will be next video on the channel. I think if you can remember everything in that 2 minutes your Morra's will be 10x stronger than if you didn't!
@@chrislevy42069 Very good idea ! Could be longer than 2 minutes, I can remember some openings but Idk why I struggle with these lines lol. I just reached 2000 and I can remember most lines from William Graiff openings for exemple, but still I'm sure it will help a lot of people, and maybe myself as well. I've switched to playing d4 (Von Popiel gambit) to avoid sicilians, but I still transpose to Morra gambits against Benoni 😂
@@maximepoca9396 oh, no way. You're even better than me lol I'm 1800 hahaha. there really is only a couple of setups to remember against the Morra - e6 d6, e6 a6, Bb4, dragon, professionals, Siberian, and Bg4. Shouldn't take too long to just show the different setups to remember, maybe 3 minutes haha. But - I do completely understand how hard it is to learn an opening, though it's a lot harder to learn when you are having to look through 15 different people's videos to learn the lines - at least you have only this one video to learn :) that's why I make these, so that 90% of what you will see against the Morra is in one video. I swear though, it feels amazing now playing against the Sicilian knowing all of this. When you hit a line you don't know yet just check the timestamps after the match 😊
@@chrislevy42069 Not that much better, 2000 rapid is my peak, and trying to get there in blitz. Yep I know I need to come back to this video sometimes and I will! Still maybe a beginner video on this might be interesting for some people ! I know it always feels amazing to hit a crazy line that you know !!
@@chrislevy42069 that fact that so many high rated players watch your videos says something about these lines (I myself don't know what)
Great video! Could you give the lichess study?
You’re back! Fucking A man…rich shit!
Hell yes!
yes sir, c3 sicilian baby for nf6 it could possible graif would recommend the abstinence gambit with e5 nd5 f4 nxf4 d4 ng6 h4 or he have may have another gambit
Yeah very excited to see what he comes up with!
@@chrislevy42069 also im curious to know what are your other thoughts switching to c3 than d4 on move 2 other than adding more gambits on the repertoire as even with c3 nc6 d4 cxd4 nf3 they can still push d3 transposing to the push variation, esserman opts to play the bxd3 c4 setup which is covered also in the book, big fan man 💯💯💯
Glad to see you're back on RUclips. I really enjoy your fast paced explanations. Keep going at it my fellow gambit connoisseur!

Not sure since Bxf2 is a threat I would have to check with an engine 👍
what if he accept the gambit with the knight?
If he accepts with the knight, just play c3 like normal, everyone goes back to c6, and then d4 transposes to the same line :)
Great lines Chris! As a fellow gambitchad ive been studying these lines, mainly the ones you provide after 3.f4. I've made a study of what I believe to be some improvements of which I'd be interested in hearing your opinion. Are you in the GambitChad discord server?
Thanks! I am indeed in the discord server under the name Yahweh42069. I dont go on too often so just reply back here once you have sent something so I see it, I'd love to see what you got!
I play the Rousseau and keep playng it. White in general has no clue.
Of course, it is still a great gambit. Personally I think the Busch Gass Gambit is more versatile, and gives black much more control over the game. Check out that vid on my channel if you are interested :) either way gambit on!
6:00 "If you lose the game from here... YOU'RE FIRED!" *HAHAHAHA!* I've been wanting to try this variation some time as this gambiteer DESPISES hypermodern pawn pushing no fun wussies. I played the 150 some time back and did better than without it, was considering the chinese variation which is strong too, but the byrne has the best stats. it also works against the modern. I even started theory for the byrne i think, but it's VERY HARD for me to memorize openings. i'm getting on this RIGHT NOW though as this potent a "main line" will work a lot better for me than getting crushed trying to claim space with the austrian which DOESN'T give white any king's gambit type attacks. the problem with powerful attacks is that opponents learn to dodge them. I used to CRUSH with the carokann mieses gambit (started by ACCIDENT and just followed the wins!) and englund hartlaub charlick gambit, but opponents are acting like gambit coward french poodles and declining a lot now the theory I have for black avoiding the byrne is: *1.e4 d6 2.d4* (all stats are for 1600-2000 rated games only) 2...Nf6 (49%) 3.Nc3 49:47@8.5m +0.7 (49% of games after 2.d4) 3...g6 (60%) 4.Bg5 Bg7 5.e5 Byrne Variation 64:32@300k = as of TODAY, 75% play 5...dxe5 with 68:28 stats! 3...c6 (13%) 4.f4 Czech Defense 53:43@408k +0.8 3...Nbd7 (12%) 4.f4 Lion Defense: Anti-Philidor 50:45@376k +0.7 2...g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.Bg5 Modern Defense Standard Defense 55:41@326k (15%) 2...c6 3.Nc3 51:45@1.6m +0.6 (8% of mainline) 2...Nd7 3.Nc3 Rat Defense: Antal Defense 51:46@824k +0.8 (7%) 2...e5? 3.Nc3 King’s Pawn Game: Maroczy Defense 53:43@302k +0.6 (7%) 2...e6 3.Nc3 Rat Defense: Small Center 55:41@1.7m +0.3 (6%) i never started playing it because of all the sidelines i never got to, but just learning the byrne and winging it in everything else (already doing that ANYWAYS) will STILL improve my LOUSY 40:60, if that pirc/modern stats the modern byrne (main line) goes: *1.e4 g6 2.d4 Bg7 3.Nc3 Modern Defense* 3…d6 4.Bg5 Standard Defense 57:40@226k +0.6 44% (4.h4!? 57:40) 4…Nf6 5.e5 Byrne Variation 64:32@302k +0.2 at 35% of games even including sidelines, the modern theory is much less daunting
Sound like my kind of guy! I love aggressive open chess, nothing bums me out more than a closed position haha. I will do everything in my power to open up the game and start attacking - glad you liked this video, intersting stats you got there. What's your rating might I ask? If you havent checked out my other vids as well, I think you may find them helpful against certain openings :) My caro vids are especially deadly.
@@chrislevy42069 I STARTED OUT 1840 after my provisional, CLIMBED to 1896 at one point and held in the 1800s about 85 games before getting dragged down to the 1600s clawing my way back to 1750s time and again only to get dragged back as low as 1500s sometimes even and don't trust that many of my opponents aren't cheating with ratings swings like that. I'm trying to claw back to 1700+ AGAIN today. I call tossing a bishop or a knight at 2 castle pawns etc. a "can opener attack". If you're REALLY like me, you've been there and done that. I played what I feel is my very best game a mieses against a high 1800 in which I *gag* repositioned a bishop before can opening and taking an EVENTUAL queen fork with the queen's knight black THOUGHT he would chase back taking an outpost on d6 and daring bishop to take that was SO vicious and positionally tight, I queen checked on his doorstep before taking and PROPERLY clearing out my opponents 2 bishops after CHOOSING queen takes black bishop so I can x ray his rook after he takes my retreated knight on the diagonal. closed games, namely slavwalling and scandinavian advance are why I quit playing a decade when my orange book didn't thing advance sicilian or closed french with the bishop released was "threatening enough" to warrant anything beyond a "develop your pieces and you'll be fine" had anyone taken my "I want to gambit my central pawn for initiative and open lines" begging seriously and told me about the hartlaub charlick (where albin doesn't have to be a mediocre mainline, but a fun sideline), I would be 1800+ by now for sure. even with players no longer falling for the Bxh2+ queen grab anymore, I still love room to swing my pieces with plenty of tactical potential like the classic QN+ run. I'm going to study bare bones theory for this just to get the essentials really memorized and do homework in analysis. trying to memorize an entire book with chess tempo's clunky spaced random book editor/trainer does more harm than good making me forever confused by move orders where systematic 1 line at a time until it's a reflex is what works best for me and mother eff that jumping to a position without the route I took to get to it for bearings crap too.
I absolutely LOVE your work, Chris! Outstanding!
